Christmas Party Held By Lois Rebekahs Two hundred guests enjoyed the annual Christmas party of the Lois Rebekahs Friday night at the Odd Fellows' hall. After the short business meeting, a varied program was presented by children of the members. James Friis gave a piano solo; Audrey Kruse, a reading; Jewel Walker, piano solo; Shirley Borgeson, a reading; Gene Walker, a piano solo; Barbara and Buddy Cannon, a vocal duet; Gwendolyn Ahlstrom, a piano solo; Glenda Wray Mungerson, a reading; Hoyt Chapel, a reading; Alice Brombly, a violin solo; Bill Kruse, an accordian solo, and Marion Robinson, a reading. A Christ-child scene was enacted by members, while "Silent Night" was played in the background. Those taking part were Mrs. Irene Peacock, Mrs. May Bell Spencer, Mrs. Mildred Allen, Mrs. Louise Mattingly, Henry Mang, Peter Peck, Cyrus Myers and Clayton Allen. Jeff Wagg took the part of Santa Claus and distributed candy, apples and gifts to the guests. Decorations of the hall were in the holiday motif, and an eight foot tree centered the room. Mrs. Eva Scutt was general chairman of the charming affair. An English-speaking colony, descended from early adventurers, occupies an island of Nicaragua's "Mosquito Coast" and numbers about 2,000. Family Dinner Held At Barthelmes Home Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Barthelmes were hosts yesterday (Sunday) to members of their family for a Christmas dinner at their home, 550 South Helena street. On the sideboard tall red candles guarded a centerpiece of pine cones and a spray of needles. Under the lighted Christmas tree was a complete snow scene which included a miniature house, cattle, and Santa Claus. A delicious 6:30 o'clock dinner was served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Rockwell of Colton, Vernon and Ruth Rockwell, and Nancy Jane and James Charles Barthelmes, children of the host and hostess. anta Claus Treats Fremont Children Fremont held a festive Christmas party Friday at the school auditorium with forty mothers as special guests. A one-act Christmas play was given during the program, and Ms. and Mrs. M. A. Gauer and Mrs. Anita Rains assisted the merchants' Santa Claus in distributing the teachers' treat of Christmas candy bags. Chocolates, nuts and mixed candy were found in the small favor-packages. Church Group Meet At Barfoot Home Twenty-one members of White Temple Methodist Church No. III met Thursday at the home of Mrs. George Barfoot, 900 South Los Angeles street, for their annual Christmas party. Mrs. George Tedrick served co-hostess. Mrs. Carrie C, Heath reviewed the study book on grant problems, and Mrs. Frank Smith led the devotionals. Mr Joan Alden gave two interesting readings, after which gifts were exchanged around the beautiful decorated Christmas tree. Mr J. E. Rymer was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. F. R. Alden and Mrs. Kaelyn Norris, winter guest of Mrs. A. C. Riutcel, were special guests of the afternoon. Mrs. Barfoot home was tastefully appointed holiday decorations, including bries and poinsettias. Local People Leave For Mexico City Joe Carroll and daughter, Elizabeth Ann Carroll, left Saturday from Mexico City where they will spend the Christmas holidays. They are travelling to Mexico by way of El Paso and Carlsbad caverns and will return by coastal route. Mrs. Carroll will remain in Anaheim. Junior Class Hosts At Christmas Dance Christmas cheer was apparent Friday night when more than twenty students gathered at the gymnasium for the annual Christmas dance sponsored by the junior class of the Anaheim union high school. MUSIC STUDENTS OFFER RECITAL Margaret Buttree presented her students in the third of a series of Christmas recitals given Friday at the studio on North Lemon street. "Silent Night" was played by Milton Oelke, Johnny Hiserodt, Bab Lyons and Dick Merrill at two pianos. The boys each played a piano solo. Martha Snow gave a group of Christmas carols and Richard Snow played two accordian solos. Douglas Phillips play the violin while Anabel Phillips accompanied him for "The Schubert Serenade." "God Bless America," "Rustic Chapel," and "Joy to the World" were played by Dean Walker. David Alsip played "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and another selection for piano. Maxine Olson played two compositions. Douglas Phillips played "The Snake Charmer," Ira Brooks "March of Progress" and "Riff Song." Jim Nelson played "Indian Love Call." Warren Payne, pupil of James Frisis, concluded the program with a drum solo. Christmas candies were served by Mrs. Buttree. Masonic Groups Hold Yule Party Everything was in the holiday spirit of cheer and fun when the annual Masonic and Eastern Star Christmas party was held Friday night at the Masonic Temple. The Rev. C. L. Pryor of the Brea Congregational church entertained the 150 children, youth and parents with slight-of-hand tricks. Pop-corn balls, candies and small gifts were given to the youngsters. A tall, well-decorated tree centered the Christmas appointments of the hall. Grace Complaint Denied by Suspects Bill Kaznock, 21, and Bernard Lewsky, 24, both of Los Angeles are awaiting trial by jury on July 17 on a charge of vagrancy allowing their arrest Thursday noon. They pleaded not to the charge when arraignement City Judge Frank Smith. Men were arrested on warrants at the Orange justice court. Lewsky posted bond of $1000 this release, while Kaznock to jail pending trial. The two had previously been jailed by Ana as suspects in purse-sniffing cases, but were released out trial. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ahlstrom will celebrate Christmas Wednesday with a family dinner at home, 110 South Walnut street. An exchange of gifts will be held around the Christmas tree. Enjoying the affair will be Winifred, Gwendolyn and Caroleen Ahlstrom, Miss Eleanor Hayes of Santa Ana, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Aubert and son, Harold,, of Plainview, Nebraska, Wilferd Auburt, and Henry Cunningham. Fordyce of South Philadelphia street will spend Christmas day with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smale and children, Audrey and Wayne, Mrs. Ellabeth Knight, Buddy Fordyce and Miss Nell Jean Toms. Miss Virginia Ehrle and Miss Edith Brown sang beautiful solo numbers, and Beverly Brown and Barbara Cross gave interesting readings. County Collections of Taxes Are High Tax collections for the first installment of 1940-41 county taxes totalled $3,333,320.31, it was announced Saturday by County Tax Collector Don Mozley, who said collections were better than last year by 1.56 per cent. The first-half total this year represents 59.73 per cent of the total tax charge for the year, $5,579,000.
