The ranch valued at approximately $2,000. The holding, one of the largest private plantings of citrus in Orte County, has an average annual production of 510,000 tons of citrus fruits. It also is out yearly 150,000 pounds of avocados. Management of the ranch has for some years been in hands of Herbert Bergen of Barton. The ranch property involved in planting between 1925 and 1929 by Gaston Bastanchury, whose original plantings constituted the largest citrus acreage under individual management in the world. Break-up of the Bastanchury holdings started in 1933 as aftermath of the national depression. The Times-Mirror concern acquired the property in repayment of a debt said owned by the original owner. A brief recital of statistics illustrates the size of the ranch property. Annual average cultural costs exceed a quarter of a million dollars. It require 10,000 pounds of mustard seed to plant the annual cover crop. The ranch consumes an annual 3100-acre feet of water. It comprises 207,000 trees of several varieties, including lemons.
