Mariner’s Club Of The First Night
Johnston Home Scene of Gay Affair Last Night
Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Johnston’s home on South Los Angeles street was the “secret” destination of the Mariner’s club of the Presbyterian church when they met there last night for their annual Christmas party.
Everyone gathered at the church and left in a caravan for Dr. Johnston’s home where they entered a beautifully decorated room. A lighted Christmas tree, crimson berries and brilliant red candles added to the festive holiday appointments.
A “treasure” hunt was carried out, with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ross and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker tying for the honor of “the best snocpers.” Mrs. Richard Wise played the organ while carols were sung by the entire gathering.
Arthur Dickenson of Compton acted as Santa Claus and distributed gifts. “Secret pals” were revealed.
Mrs. Truman Stuard and Mrs. Andrew Wood presided at the tea table at which individual mince pies were served by Mr. and Mrs. John Kelsey and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pearson, in charge of refreshments. Sixty-five guests attended the charming affair.
The executive board meeting of the organization will be held December 18 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leighton Ross, 726 North Philadelphia street.

Sheridan Home Scene of D.A.R. Meeting Friday
The regular December meeting of Mother Colony chapter Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Sheridan, 402 North Lemon street Friday. It being a luncheon meeting the members gathered at 12:30. The beautifully appointed table was centered with a large bowl of ranunculi of many hues and maiden hair fern. All the doilies used were the handiwork of Mrs. Emma M. River, mother of Mrs. Sheridan and a charm member of Mother Colony chapter Mrs. Vera Clark assisted Mrs. Sheridan in serving the luncheon.
The living room reflected the season with a cheerful fire in the open fire place while, on a mantle was fashioned a winter snow scene in the mountain showing reindeer amid snow covered pine trees. At either end were small silk flags. Bowls roses, chrysanthemums and greenery further lent cheer to the room.
Following the luncheon there was a short business meeting. The usual opening exercises completed $5.60 was contributed to the work of the D.A.R. Neighborhood Center at Los Angeles. The treasurer Mrs. David Toms, reported dues for the year 1940-41 p.a.

DINNER HOSTESS
Miss Winifred Melrose entertained friends last Thursday with a gay Christmas party and dinner given at Daniger's cafe in Santa Ana.
Red berries and chyrsanthemums gave a Christmas touch to the cleverly appointed tables. After the dinner, the guests enjoyed games of whist.
Prizes went to Mrs. William Dolan and Mrs. Ralph McFadden. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Backs, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Yungbluth, Mr. and Mrs. William Dolan, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McFadden and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zeppenfeld.
Christmas' Meaning Portrayed by Group
Christmas and its meaning was portrayed Friday by members of the Flower Mission of the Presbyterian church when they met at the home of Mrs. Harry B. Pearson of 518 North Lemon street.
Mrs. L. E. Middleton, Mrs. Walter Ross and Mrs. Ferrell Smith took part in the candlelight skit. Mrs. Holly Markle, program chairman in the absence of Mrs. J Ben Kaulbars, introduced Mrs. Middleton, the reader, Mrs. Ross, the soloist, and Mrs. Smith, accompanist.
During the business meeting, plans were made to fete the choir today at the church. Co-chairmen are Mrs. Markel and Mrs. C. P. Tompkins, assisted by Mrs. Ben Stroup, Mrs. Earl Spencer, Mrs. L. C. Herron, Mrs. Cassie Wethered, Mrs. Harry Pearson, Mrs.. J. G. Hilleary and Mrs. H. B. Archibald, Mrs. A. W. Young and Mrs. Earl Mathison were appointed as the calling committee for December, and church decorators Sunday will be Mrs. C. A. Sisson and Mrs. Charles Pearson.
Mrs. Eldon Stark and Mrs. Marion Pickel were auctioneers.
Keith Miners
Scene of Party
Expecting only two or three couples over for the evening, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Miner (Idaline Schlosser) of Huntington Park were pleasantly surprised when a party of 21 friends met at their home Monday evening for a house-warming.
Mr. and Mrs. Miner have just recently moved into their new home at 3327 Cudahy street. Mrs. Miner is the former Idaline Schlosser, twin sister of Marguerite Schlosser, and native of Anaheim. She is a bride of a year.
Joke-gifts were given to the feted couple before the group presented them with a purse with which to purchase something for their home. The evening was spent informally, and refreshments were served later.

Pythian Sisters Enjoy Card Party
Anaheim Pythian Sisters held their card party yesterday at the Odd Fellows' hall.
Poinsettias and red candles graced the hall, giving a Christmas touch. Bridge and 500 were played with prizes going to Mrs. Floyd Smith and Mrs. John Fotchman.
Mrs. Nellie Reinert and Mrs. Martha Trabert won the door-prizes.
Mrs. Mary Hatfield, Mrs. Opal Walter and Mrs. Lizzie Knight served the refreshments after the cards games. During the business session, it was announced that the Christmas party would be held tonight at the home of Mrs. Hatfield, 700 East Sycamore street.

Mrs. Rasmussen Entertains Group
Mrs. Nels Rasmussen was hostess last night to members of the Grace Lutheran Friendship circle at her home, 800 South East street.
After the business meeting,
games were played and gifts exchanged. A Christmas tree was pretty decorated with many-colored ornaments and vases were filled with poinsettas. Mrs. E. Heinze won the prize for the enjoyable game played. Twenty six enjoyed the affair.
Old Del Campo Hotel Shown
Anaheim's second noted hotel, the Del Campo, is housed in the above photograph. It was built during the early part of 1888 in the corner of Olive street and Broadway. Albrecht Brothers were the contractors and the plans were drawn by John Pelton, Jr. The structure was demolished early in the present century.
Anaheim Women's Attend Function
A gala Christmas party held yesterday by the Auviliary of the Orange Safeway association at the Mrs. H. R. Farmer of Place.
The room was prettily decorated with Christmas appointments the afternoon was spent in bridge. Co-hostess of the event was Mrs. J.R. Killbourn and Ana, and the traveling prizes to Mrs. T. McDonald of Mrs. Farmer won the door.
Gifts were presented after bers had completed nurse mes from slips of paper catch line. The affair was a bridge and those attending Anaheim were Mrs. E. T. and Mrs. G. W. Serr.

Miss Anna Lampman was electnoble grand Friday night when
members of the Lois Rebekah
gave met at the Odd Fellow's hall.
Other newly-elected officers
will be formally installed
January 17, 1941, by Mrs. Hazel
von of Santa Ana, district deputy.
President, are Mrs. Marie Cannon,
grand; Mrs. Berthyle Reister, recording secretary; Mrs.
Ee Borth, financial secretary;
Lizzie Lylen, treasurer, and
Hannah Horwitz, trustee.
Mrs. Loren V. Fowler was initilated as a new member into the
gate. Visitors included Mr. and
Ed Presnell of Cottage Grove,
former Anaheim residents
who have just returned to southCalifornia to make their home,
and Mrs. Elsie Alexander of Portland, Ore., and Nichol McIntyre
Sheridan, Ore.
During the business meeting,
bars were made for the Christmas
day to be held tonight by members of the Lois Rebekah Past
Noble Grand association at the
home of Mrs. Grace Ahlstrom.
The next regular lodge meeting
will be December 20, and will be
Christmas party for all Rebekahs, Odd Fellows and their
families.
Mrs. Harry Pearson
Compliments Visitor
Mrs. Harry Pearson of North
Lemon street entertained guests
Monday afternoon at her home,
honoring Mrs. Lee Murphy of
Scott's Bluff, Neb. The Murphys
are staying in Long Beach until
after the New Year.
Those present for the delightful
luncheon were Mrs. Bess Swafffield, Mrs. Zeta Kempton, Mrs.
Dora Pearson, Mrs. Murphy and
Mrs. Harry Pearson.
Mrs. Rust Hostess
To Club Members
Mrs. Jefferson Rust entertained
members of her bridge club Tuesday with a delightful Christmas
dinner at the Lakewood country
club.
After the delicious dinner,
bridge was the diversion of the
evening, with prizes going to
Mrs. F. A. Yungbluth, Mrs. J. A.
Clayes and Miss Sophie Rimpau.
Christmas decorations enlivened
the room appointments.

MRS. EVA BOYD
HEADS AUXILIARY
Mrs. Eva Boyd was honored Friday by being elected to the position of president of the Women's Exhibition of the St. Michael's Episcopal church at a meeting held at home of Mrs. Thomas Lumsden, South Kroeger street.
Mrs. Bert Shaw was named re-president and Mrs. E. G. Offziger was re-elected as secretary-treasurer. A vote of thanks is given to Mrs. R. W. Balch,iring president, who has served that capacity for 12 years.
During the business meeting, it is announced that 100 pairs of shoes for patients of the Orange County hospital would be given as gift from the auxiliary. Mrs. Shaw led the discussion and misnary study of "Women in the Life of the Church."
Mrs. Lumsdon, assisted by Missaude Dent, served refreshments over the meeting.
Cosmetologists Name New Officers
New officers were elected Monday evening when members of the Orange County Registered Cosmeologists' society met at Mrs. Marie Walker's beauty salon at 7 East Center street for their annual Christmas party.
A beautifully decorated tree added to the Christmas decorations. During the meeting, plans were made for the formal installation of the new officers January 3.
Receiving new positions were Miss Marjorie Hawthorne, president, of Santa Ana; Mrs. Kayunningham, secretary and treasurer, also of Santa Ana; Mrs. Mattie Talcott, first vice-president, of Fullerton, and Mrs. S. Fuddeth, Santa Ana, second vice president.
New members of the executive board are Mrs. Margaret Harris, Mrs. Agnes Sahr, Mrs. Durant.
