Miss Peggy Berthaumm surprised friends Monday night at a personal shower given for her by announcing her marriage to Thomas L. Hoag November 9 at Crestline. Mrs. Kate Van Atta hostessed the affair at her home, 209 South Clementine street.
Expecting to hear a future wedding date announcement, the guests were totally surprised when a group of 20-30 club members came to the party with the news.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Berthaumm and is a graduate of Anaheim union high school and Fullerton junior college. Her husband graduated from San Pedro high school and Compton junior college.
For the wedding, Miss Berthaumm wore a wine-colored frock with gold accents and had as her wedding corsage a lovely arrangement of gardenias. Mr. and Mrs. Hilbig of Crestline were the only witnesses of the ceremony officiated over by Judge Cormack, although Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hoag were guests later in the evening. The wedding party came back to Anaheim where they had a wedding supper at the California hotel at which the new Mrs. Hoag is manager.
Mr. Hoag is the son of Mrs. Margaret Hoag of 207 South Clementine street and is employed at the George Dutton Ford agency
SHOWER HONORS MISS EDWARDS
Miss Bessie Marie Edwards was honored Monday afternoon with a delightful miscellaneous shower given at the home of Mrs. Earl Hopkins, 206 West Broadway. Mrs. Rod Craven assisted in hostess duties.
Appropriate games were played during the afternoon, with prizes going to Mrs. Fred Edwards and Miss Winifred Ahlstrom. The room was gayly decorated with yellow chrysanthemums and blue delphinium. After Miss Edwards had opened her many lovely gifts delicious refreshments were served by the two hostesses.

Two Couples Host Dinner-Bridge At Country Club
Mr. and Mrs. J Ben Kaulb and Mr. and Mrs. Thedore Kuc were hosts last night to a dinner bridge party held at the Lakewood Country club.
Tables were attractively pointed with brown and green chrysanthlemums, in keeping with the general fall scheme. Priest for women went to Mrs. H. Wilson, Mrs. E. Howell, Ms Everett Cone and Mrs. Norvale Ulvestad. In the men's division prizes went to Lloyd Reed, John Wood, Dr. Howard Tews and Robert Easton.

Mrs. Ross Hostess To Mothers' Club
Mrs. Lloyd Ross was hostess Tuesday evening to members of the Mothers' club of the Presbyterian church at her home, 409 North Pine street. Assisting was Mrs. Hudson Rennie.
Mrs. Robert Gregg led the meeting and introduced her guest, Mrs. Charles Marshall, a new resident of Anaheim and former social worker in Los Angeles. Mrs. S. L. Keith and Mrs. Joe Wilmore were guests of Mrs. Claude Booth.
Mrs. Gregg gave an interesting report on pre-school child training from the book "As The Twig is Bent," by Holman. A round-table discussion followed. Plans for the next meeting to be held in January were discussed.

Birthday Party Honors Ben Davis

A beautiful birthday cake highlighted the cleverly appointed table. Cards were the diversion of the evening, after which Mr. Davis opened many gifts.

Mrs. Maurice Shirk was honored Monday evening with a layette shower given by Mrs. F. E. Birchcer at her home, 914 West Center street.
A gracious madonna, surrounded by pink and blue sweetpeas and delphinium and flanked by white tapers, centered the table. The pastel shades were carried out in the other table appointments and mut-cups.
After Mrs. Shirk had opened the many lovely gifts, bridge was the diversion of the evening, with prizes going to Mrs. Arthur Elliott, Mrs. Cortez Hoskins, Mrs. Ewald Lemcke and Mrs. Chester Ralston. Refreshments were served as a delightful conclusion to the evening.

Church Circle Meets At H.H.Moore Home
Mrs. H.H.Moore was host Tuesday evening to members of the Young Women's circle of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Wesley Method church at her home, 321 South Olive street.
During the business meeting by Mrs.Viola Ramsey,the nominating committee presented officers including Mrs.Avis Elli chairman;Mrs.Flossie Akin,v chairman;Mrs.Lea Nitt,t secretary and publicity chairman;Mrs Ardis Adams,t treasurer;Mrs Sally Clark,mission study cha man,and Mrs.Lillian Wise,B study chairman.
Plans were made for the organization to sew for the Red Cross at the home of Mrs.Avis Elli on Ball road Tuesday,Dec 16.
Topic of study for the afternoon was "Uprooted Americans by Mrs.Clark.Names were changed for Christmas gifts to give at the party December 19.

Bazaar Preparations Made by Club
The Lois Rebekah Thimble club held its regular meeting last Friday at the I.O.O.F. hall to sew for the Bazaar December 6 and 7.
Beginning with a delivious pot-luck dinner at noon, the meeting was officially opened by Mrs. Ora Horn, president. Mrs. Adele Summers House and son, Lynn, of Redding were special guests.
During the business meeting, plans were made for special meetings to complete the work. Mrs. Bessie Curtis is in charge of the food sale to be held in connection with the bazaar.
A Christmas party will be held December 27 at the home of Mrs. Berthyle Reisinger, it was announced.
Gwendolyn Ahlstrom Marks Anniversary
The Charles Ahlstrom home at 110 South Walnut street was the scene of a double celebration last Thursday.
Gwendolyn Ahlstrom was the honored guest and celebrated her 11th birthday along with Thanksgiving day. The table was centered with autumn leaves and golden tapers, and after the lovely dinner, Gwendolyn opened her many gifts.
Complimenting the little girl were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ahlstrom, and the Misses Caroleen and Winifred Ahlstrom, Wilfred Aubert of Downey and Miss Eleanor Hayes.

Thanksgiving recitations were given by members during the entertainment period. During the business session plans were made for the Christmas party to be held at the home of Mrs. Mary Mitchell, 717 South Los Angeles street, December 17. Mrs. A.L.Hopson and Mrs.Edward E.Taber will act as co-hostesses.
Clever turkey place-cards marked places for the 17 guests present. Yellow flowers and Christmas berries centered the tables.
Berg Home Scene of Thanksgiving Dinner

Professor Speaks At P.-T.A.Session
"Coming of Age in America was the theme for the Anahale union high school P.-T.A.missing held Tuesday evening at the school library, with Mrs.Wollenman presiding.
L.L.Jones, assistant professor of education at Claremont college was the guest speaker and used his topic "The School's Responsibility in a Democracy." Jones pointed out the value of guidance program in high school mentioning the fact that every program should include vocation health, social and spiritual guidance.
A delightful play was enacted by members of Mrs.Helen Applain high school drama class. Student director was Lettie Jo Zimmerman and student stage director Jules Osher. Included in the play were Joan Guss,Rollo West,Virginia Duffy and Patricia Loly.

Woodward Bell makes Tujunga girl as Bride
Woodward Bell, nephew of Mr. Cal Mrs. A. C. Schulz of Anaheim and resident of Anaheim for many years, was married Saturday afternoon to Miss Lorraine Rahal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas of Tujunga at a beautiful ceremony held at the home of Rev. Her Falvey of Tujunga.
Mr. Bell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bell of Missouri. For wedding, Miss Rahal wore a lovely suit ensemble with silver furs and a corsage of orchids. Maid of honor was Miss Helen Rahal of Los Angeles, and Fred one of Anaheim served as best man.
A reception after the wedding featured a beautiful tiered wedding cake. Fifty guest joined in sharing the newlyweds happiness. Mr. Bell is employed at the General Motors plant at South Lake. The new Mr. and Mrs. Bell reside at 119½ East Alberta street in this city.

Mrs. Henry Adams was hostess Tuesday evening to members of the Booklovers' club at her home, 515 North Clementine.
Mrs. H. A. Johnston led the discussion on the literary aspect of the Bible after the delicious luncheon had been served.
Present at the meeting were Mrs. H. D. Newkirk, Mrs. H. G. Ames, Mrs. George Griffith, Mrs. R. W. Balch, Mrs. Stanley Collins, Mrs. L. C. Deming, Mrs. Johnston, the hostesses and the guest for the day, Mrs. F. N. Gibbs.
Fendlay Home Scene of Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. George Fendlay of South Los Angeles street were hosts Thursday to relatives and friends joining in Thanksgiving celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Nickle of Long Beach were hosts Sunday to guests enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner at their home.
The table was attractively appointed with berries and autumn colors. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Epstein, Mrs. Maud Backs, Mrs. Mollie Nickle, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Backs and son, Wray, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Marion and daughter, Jean, and Miss Armanda Domke, all of Anaheim.
Mrs. Forest Lee Hostess to Club
Mrs. Forest Lee was hostess yesterday to members of her bridge club at a dessert-bridge party held at her home, 714 South Los Angeles street.
Mrs. Leonard Daigle was guest of the day. Tables were attractively centered with small bowls of pansies. Prizes went to Mrs. Vernon Wright and Mrs. Charles Evans.
Enjoying the afternoon were Mrs. L. E. Middleton, Mrs. Page Vincent, Mrs. Herman Oelrich, Mrs. Vernon Wright, Mrs. Allan DeWitt, Mrs. Charles Evans, Mrs. Leonard Daigle and the hostess, Mrs. Lee.
