“Seven Keys to Baipate” to Be Presented Next Friday Night
Evening rehearsals being held four times during the next week members of the cast in the Anaheim senior class play “Seven Keys to Baipate,” are practicing vigorously for the evening performance to be held November 15 in the Anaheim high school auditorium.
The story concerns old Baipate Inn, with George Garabedian as the caretaker, and Jean Sutherland as his wife. The leading players are Keith Presson as Magee, the novelist, and Charlotte Schooley as Mary, the newspaper reporter.
Joshua W. Williams, music instructor, will direct the orchestra in “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Sousa's March” and selections from “Desert Song.”
A 90-pound, one-year-old Great Dane, owned by Mrs. Helen Appy, director of dramatics, has been named mascot of the play as he has attended every rehearsal.
Prompter for the play is Lillian Lo Porto, Betty Knight, manager of the tickets; Tom Wert, sound effects; Marjorie Vigor, property manager; and James Patrick and Sylvia Gregg, publicity.
An afternoon performance for the grammar school students will be held November 14.

TORRANCE MAN is Killed in Mishap
Accident Between Auto and Truck Tuesday Brings Death Total to 55
Orange county's toll of traffic fatalities mounted to 55 early Tuesday morning when Clifford E. King, 30. of 1535 Marcelina street, Torrance, was killed in a crash between an automobile and a truck at the intersection of 17th street and Bolsa Chica avenue west of Anaheim.
A second tragic death occurred in the county this week when John C. Adams, 63, worker at an SRA camp at Chino, was instantly killed Monday afternoon when a freight train ran over him as he was lying between the rails of the Santa Fe right-of-way a mile east of Placentin.
King was killed when the car in which he was riding with three other men was involved in a collision with the truck ,which was operated by John R. Maciel of 607 Oak street, Erickower. Officers said that Thomas W. King, 25, brother of the dead man, was driving the automobile. He suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.
Also hurt in the carsh were Maciel James H. Beltie, 35. of Torrance and H. Z. Zorn of Pampa. Texas. Beltie and Zorn were injured critically, as was Thomas W. King.
Circumstances leading to the death of Adams are yet unknown. Trainmen told deputy snriffs and Deputy Coroner Bert Castzix they did not see the man lying between the track until too late to stop the train before it passed over him.
It is believed that Adams was walking to Placentia to visit his memorial service.
