Merger of Three Firms Announced Gas Companies Will Combine When Approval of State Commission Obtained Reports of a proposed merger of Southern Counties Gas company and Santa Maria Gas company with Southern California Gas company were confirmed today by Fred G. Merker, local gas company district manager, who said: "Managements of the three companies have before them a plan to combine Southern California Gas company, Southern Counties Gas company and Santa Maria Gas company into a single operating unit, which will take the name of the Southern California Gas company. This reorganization is subject to prior approval by the railroad commission of the state of California before it can be put into effect." It is not expected this merger will have any effect on the operations of the companies involved. "For a number of years the three companies, operating under a common ownership, have been closely coordinated as to their policies and practices," Merker said. "Consequently but few changes appear probable under the expected merger. The new arrangements are primarily for financial reasons. During recent negotiations which led to the successful sale of $30,000,000 of thirty-year 3¼% bonds of the Southern California Gas company, it became apparent that the future financial needs of all the companies of the group could be much better handled if they were only a single company." Gorge H. Everett, 86, who was dead in his bed at his home, North Santa Fe street, last day was buried at Fairhaven Cemetery this afternoon following services conducted fromacks, Campbell & Kaulbars. Everett had lived in Anaheim 1932, although a resident of Bernia for 75 years. His death attributed to a heart attack.
