Schools Seeking Music Students
Players on all instruments, execept guitar, bugle and accordion,
are needed by the Anaheim elementary schools, it was decalered
this week by John Newman, instrumental music teacher for the
band instruments such as flute,
system. Classes are open for
trombone, bass and drums. The
orchestra needs violin, viola, cello
and bass players, Newman said.
Free instruction is given to both
beginning and advanced players.
The students buy their own book,
but the school furnishes all other
music. Newman asks that parents
consult him at Fremont school on
Monday and Wednesday afternoons if they desire to have their children participate in instrumental music instruction.
To enable the child to get a start in music without the expense of purchasing an instrument, the school has a plan for renting instructments for a trial period, Newman said. He also urged that parents use that service rather than to purchase an instrument.
"For self-discipline, character building and its social values,
music study has no equal. The richest child is poor without music," Newman commented.

Local Creamery Wins Six Medals
Success of Excelsior Creamery in winning six gold medals at the Los Angeles county fair was revealed today by Paul Bakenhus, wholesale sales manager. First place awards were won for grade A raw and pasteurized, guaranteed raw and pasteurized, and certified raw and pasteurized milks. All the leading dairies of southern California were in the competition.
“This again proves the effectiveness of constant laboratory control,” Bakenhus said. “The Excelsior creamery's graduate chemist and graduate bacteriologist make more than 300 tests daily. Our is the only Orange county dairy to maintain a laboratory.”
