Mary Emily Jewell
Weds Avery Gomes
Approximately 150 friends and relatives attended the wedding of Miss Mary Emily Jewell and Avery Jay Gomes at the Capilla de San Antonio last Sunday evening. The service was read by Rev. Howard P. Page of the Clearwater Presbyterian church.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Lois M. Jewell of 801 North West street. Her grandfather was the late L. C. Blake, an employee of the Anaheim Gazette for 25 years. Mr. Gomes' parents are Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Gomes of Clearwater.
Miss Mary Shea was the bride's maid of honor, while Miss Irene Jewell and Miss Ruth Peitzke served as bridesmaids, Nancy Lee Carver was the flower girl.
Best man to Mr. Gomes was Virgil Butler and the ushers were Eugene Booth and J. Clifton Gomes. Soloist was Miss Mavis Link.
The bride was graduated from Anaheim union high school and Fullerton junior college, and plans to complete her work at the University of California at Berkeley this year. Mr. Gomes is a graduate of the University of California and Northwest Medical college.

Weds John Bunnell
Miss Lillian Gust, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Gust, became the bride Sunday evening of John Bunnell, son of Mrs. Ethel Bunnell, at a ceremony performed at the Gust home on Nutwood street. Rev. S. F. Hilgenfeld was the officiating minister.

Willers Family Back From East
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Willers and daughters, the Misses Elsie and Leona Willers, were recounting to friends this week highlights of their recent visit with relatives near Mazeppa, Minn. The Willers family left Anaheim on July 21 and returned to their home on East Center street Saturday.
Mr. Willers combined business with pleasure during the trip, looking after farm property he owns near Mazeppa. While in Minnesota the Anaheim people were guests of Mr. Willers' brother, O. H. Willers, and Mrs. Willers' mother, Mrs. Peter Luhmann.
Crops in the area looked exceptionally good this summer, Mr. Willers said. Farmers, however, are not entirely satisfied with the government’s agricultural program, he reported.
Mills Family Ends
Seven Week’s Trip
Seven weeks of motoring through a large part of the United States was concluded late last week by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mills and son, Donald, of 200 Carlton avenue.
The Mills family went as far south as Florida, drove up the east coast to Washington, D.C., crossed over to Minnesota and returned by way of Yellowstone National park, where they camped for several days. Towns at

A reception was held following the ceremony, with Mrs. E. L. Hein, Mrs. Verna Bunnell, Miss Nadine Bunnell and Miss Betty Beatty assisting in hostess duties.
The new Mrs. Bunnell is a graduate of Anaheim union high school and Fullerton junior college. Mr. Bunnell also is a graduate of Anaheim union high school and is now employed at the Alpha Beta store in Fullerton. They will make their home in Anaheim.

Mrs. Vincenta Carlton was hostess at the Friendly House at Laguna Beach Thursday evening with a surprise dinner for eight members of the Anaheim Business & Professional Women's club. Following dinner the group motored to Newport Beach to pay a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hathaway,

Riley, Mrs. Riley, and Mrs. Riley, sr., of Sacramento were geests on Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dominguez of Cerritos avenue; Mrs. Dominguez, the former Miss Laura Knowlton, and Mr. Riley are cousins. Mr. Riley was a resident of Buena Park for a number of years and has many personal friends in Anaheim.

age Revealed
Anaheim girls and were among the 40 guests hered at the Claremont Mrs. Carl V. Bradley last evening supposedly to the betrothal of the hoste, Miss Sybil Brown, to sing. Instead, they learn Miss Brown and Mr. Ring married on July 31 at Yuma.
New Mrs. Ring is the wife of Mrs. Mattie Brown, resident of Anaheim now Pomona. She was graduated Anaheim union high in 1935, and has since gained a majorette. Her picture on the cover of an Life magazine some ago.

Maxihe Vetter Weds Wayne M. Carlson
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne M. Carlson (Maxine Vetter) expected to return to Orange county at the end of this week from their honeymoon trip, which took them to the northern part of the state, to establish their new home in Santa Ana.
Marriage vows were exchanged by the young couple Sunday evening at the Grace Luthern church here, with Rev. C. H. S. Hunziker officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Vetter of 600 East Santa Ana street and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Carlson of 242 South Center street, Orange.
Miss Vetter, given in marriage by her father, was attended by her sister, Miss Vangie Vetter, as maid or honor, and by Miss Alice Schroeder and Miss Jerry Gilbert as bridesmaids. Jay Cornelison of Villa Park served as Mr. Carlson's best man, and the ushers were Norman Mennes of Tustin and Carl Ahelfeld of Orange. Mrs. Carroll Krueger of Orange was the soloist, singing "Because" and "Oh Promise Me." She was accompanied at the organ by Miss Elizabeth Hunziker.
A reception was held at the Vetter home after the ceremony, with about 40 close relatives of the couple present.
The new Mrs. Carlson was graduated from Anaheim union high school with the class of 1939. Mr. Carlson is a graduate of Orange union high school and Santa Ana junior college and is employed by the Southern California Edison company in Santa Ana.

From Alaskan Trip
Mrs. Elizabeth Miller of 560 South Dickel street returned yesterdy from a five weeks' vacation trip to Alaska, being met at the Los Angeles station by her daughter, Miss Beatrice Miller.
Mrs. Miller motored to Seattle with Miss Daisy Sinclair of Los Angeles, spending a week in the Washington city with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller. She then went to Victoria for a three-day visit before boarding the ship at Vancouver for Alaska. She was accompanied on the Alaskan trip by Miss Kathryn Jacobs of Fullerton, the couple going as far north as White Horse, Yukon territory.

Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Hapgood are at home again from a 10-days' vacation trip during which they camped five days at Lake Mary. Before establishing their camp they visited several mining camps at Placerville and Jackson, and took trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe.

Mr. and Mrs. William A. Sowder of 801 North Clementine street returned Sunday evening from a vacation of two weeks. The first week was spent at Seal Beach and during the second week Mr. and Mrs. Sowder were at Lake Arrowhead.

Lawrence Hund, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Hund of 218 Carleton street, was bitten Sunday afternoon by a dog reportedly owned by C. O. Skelton of 1233 Pearl street. The youngster was treated by Dr. E. H. Kersten.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell R. McComb and son, Marshall, and Mr. and Mrs. C. William Queale of Fullerton, spent Sunday at Corona del Mar as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Davis and family.
Mrs. E. L. Eldridge of 419 South Helena Street, is convalescing nicely from a recent major operation and is able to receive friends at her home.
Miss La Vena Sneed of Redding is visiting at the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ashenfelter, 215 North Claudina street. The group spent Tuesday at Laguna Beach, visiting friends, fishing and swimming, and went to Newport Beach yesterday.

End Long Vacation
Councilman and Mrs. Ray Van
Wagoner, 421 North Pine street,
Saturday completed a five weeks'
vacation trip during which they
made a circle tour of the United
States and visited several relatives in various parts of the nation. The trip was made by train,
boat and automobile.
The vacation trip opened with
Mr. Van Wagoner's participation
in the Elks national convention at
Houston, Texas. Mr. Van Wagoner
represented the Anaheim lodge as
government position to show the Anaheimers points of interest in
and near the capital city.
From Washington, Mr. and Mrs.
Van Wagoner went to Toledo,
Ohio, to spend a short time with
relatives of the latter near that
city. A five-day visit with Earl
Van Wagoner, member of the
Federal Trade commission, in
Chicago followed. The couple also
stopped at Salt Lake City to visit
Leland Van Wagoner, and three
days were spent at Provo, Utah,
at the home of Mr. Van Wagoner's
mother, Mrs. Sarah Van Wagoner.

Frank Wood, citrus rancher on earlier road west of Anaheim, today for New York for a combined business and pleasure trip. He does not plan to return to Anaheim until sometime in October. Wood came to Anaheim about four months ago from San Francisco.
Lynn Bush, Bob Dodge, David Sprinkle, Charles Todd and Robert Mauer are leaders of the YMCA younger boys' camp which opens tomorrow at Camp Osceola. Youngsters from Anaheim, Santa Ana, Fullerton and Orange will attend the 10-day camp.
Leason F. Pomeroy is vacationing this week from his duties at the Alpha Beta store at Center and Emily streets. He and Mrs. Pomeroy spent today in San Diego.
Notices of intention to wed were filed at Santa Ana Tuesday by James H. Hollingsworth, 27, of South Gate and Ruth S. Parker, 23, of Anaheim, and by Howard F. Spears, 23, of Anaheim, and Marjorie E. Hjorth, 17, El Monte.
From Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Van Wagoner went to Toledo, Ohio, to spend a short time with relatives of the latter near that city. V. F. W. Auxiliary Marks Anniversary
Fifth birthday anniversary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary was commemorated with a program last Thursday evening at the Odd Fellows hall. Approximately 150 members and guests of the auxiliary, including post members, were in attendance.
Auxiliaries from Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange and Santa Ana participated in the program, over which L. N. Wisser, first commander of the Anaheim Veterans of Foreign Wars post, presided. Taking part in Anaheim's presentation, a mock wedding, were the Mesdames Opal Walters, Susan Whippo, Ida Trendall, Grace Peres, Bessie Poetz, Laura Tyreman, Pauline Bittner, Myrtle Mallin and Teressa Hassler.
Feature of the refreshments served at the close of the evening was a large birthday cake presented to the auxiliary by the post: Ice cream was served with the cake. Heading the refreshment committee was Mrs. Hassler.
OKLAHOMA PICNIC
Former residents of Oklahoma and their friends will gather at Sycamore Grove park, Los Angeles, on Labor day for a picnic and program. A picnic lunch will be held at noon and the program will start at 2 o'clock.
