ended, at England's back. It is emely doubtful whether there be any hope of Ireland's being to raise forces sufficient for own defense when the blow come any day. And long, her experiences have shown the utility of relying on an attempt rescue by British troops after invasion has actually begun. The allies could not save Belm, or even make more than a cure of rescue toward Holland, in it seems useless to think for moment that England might give out the Germans once they secured firm footholds in Eire.
The alternative is for England to detake now the defense of northern Ireland, which would only Eire's entry into the war and the abandonment of her neutrality. If negotiations proceeding with this end in new break down, it would not be prising if England were to take leaf out of the Nazi book, and proceed to "safeguard Irish neutrality." For extreme necessity know no law.

Citrus Aided by Cloudy Mornings
Orange county's citrus and bean crops have been greatly benefitted by the overcast mornings during the past month, it was declared recently by Roy K. Bishop, county agricultural inspector. Hot weather would kill a large part of either crop, he said.
Cloudy mornings are usual in southern California this time of year, the inspector said, and added that there were 24 of such days during June. Only three other parts of the world compare with the coastal strip of southern California for even temperature. These are small portions of Italy, Australia and South Africa.
Last month provides a typical illustration of the moderate weather of the southern California coast. An average high temperature of 78.2 degrees and an average low of 54.4 were recorded. There were no low fogs nor rain, and the wind velocity never exceeded 10 miles an hour.
"People who call these cloudy mornings unusual just forget that they are a typical condition and are responsible for the desirable evenness of our weather," Bishop said. Records since 1935 show that bright days of the month of June have not exceeded 13, and usually number about five or six.

How Goes The World?
BY AUSTIN CONOVER
HONORABLE WORK — America's defense preparations reveal a lack of balance in our educational system. White collar jobs have been held up as the goal for enterprising young men. Far too many students have had visions of sitting at a desk pushing buttons and dictating to a stenographer in an airconditioned office. It wasn't that they were lazy; their exploits on the athletic field proved that. They merely regarded such a job as having prestige.
Youth, in scorning the idea of burning the midnight oil in order to become a skilled tool-maker or mechanic, overlooked an American tradition. The men who built this country knew how to work with their hands as well as with their heads. George Washington was a surveyor, Thomas Jefferson was an architect. And Abraham Lincoln took out patents on different appliances.
Today, Uncle Sam recognizes the lack of skilled men in the defense industries. The blame for the present shortage does not lie altogether upon the shoulders of the educators. The depression obscured the future demand for manual laborers. But now the United States Office of Education has plans for putting public trade schools on double or triple shifts. And, soon 1,250,000 students will be learning how to handle a wrench rather than a telephone. Every honest task that is done well is honorable work.
Minister Named In Triangle Case
Preliminary airing of sensational charges brought by Willard Edwards, 36, of Fullerton, former radio technician, against his divorced wife, Oleta Hyder Edwards, 29, and Rev. E. Dow Hoffman, pastor of the First Methodist church of Fullerton until July 1 when he was assigned to a charge at Ontario, was Field in Superior Judge Franklin G. West's court last Friday.
Continuation of the hearing was set for July 31, thus allowing attorneys to take various depositions that are required.
Edwards is seeking to wrest custody of his three young children from their mother, on the ground that she is unfit for their care, it was said. He also testified that friends of his wife and of the minister had caused him to lose his position June 26.
Mrs. Edwards has been a member of the choir of the Fullerton Methodist church.

Fight Over Sewer Rent Claim Closed
With an acceptance by Orange city officials filed with the county supervisors, the $4554.22 settlement of the city's claim against the county, for county hospital sewer service, the controversy over the claim which had been pending for two years was brought to an end.
Mayor Hollis Showalter of Orange filed the city's acceptance of the compromise late last week and the supervisors immediately authorized payment of $4554.22.
Supervisors N. E. West and Steele Finley, who opposed the compromise, again voted against authorizing payment of the claim.
