Kay Franels in "MY BILL" Also "The MAN THEY COULD NOT HANG" Starring Boris Karloff Thank you, "Orion" for your question which is repeated below for the benefit of the loggers. It's a good subject upon which to think and my comments come straight from people who are active in the movement to frustrate the mad attempts to destroy all culture and drive the people back into the prison of the wark ages: "Last year, Mrs. Lindsey, you commented in your column on the picture, 'Lost Horizon,' and then told how, at a meeting in the Los Angeles University club you had heard of the work of a group who were spiriting out of the Asiatic war zones as many as possible of the agencies of culture and storing them in a great valley in western China. If you could tell me more of this effort or direct me to a place where I could secure this information I would appreciate it very much. O. H." There were several hundred people at that luncheon, the guests of the Chinese consul at Los Angeles. Among them were world travelers, authors, physicians who had worked in hospitals and laboratories in China, teachers who had been bombed out of their places by the Japanese army, physical instructors, missionaries and editors. These people were and are the wise men and women of the twentieth century. They listened as I did, breathless, to the story of a modern flight into Egypt a flight with books and apparatus, formulas and instruments, the minimum of scientific knowledge, which they had been able to salvage from the Japanese bombs sold to the Japanese army by American cannons. That flight is as real as the writer on which I am now writing. The valley is a secret deep in a Himalayan valley southwestern China. The loss is known only to those who venture in hand and it be given out for fear of the what the ages have yielded benefit of man. That is the I think it inspiring and that for it the whole world is tor to China. Q.—I have many dogs hate dog tax. Can you tell what zany started it?—Dog A.—The zany who starred was one George Clark, a member of the British parliament in His bill was overwhelmingly feated but other zanys took idea and wailed about the consumed by "useless" dogs bill became law in 1796, far this time b ya man named We've had it ever since. I want my friend know about our baby but wish them to send gifts.—M A.—There is no obligation send a gift to every new baby. Such things devolve on the families and very friends. And their gifts wo voluntary. Every man feels instinct that all the beautiful sentiments the world weigh less than a lovely action.—James R. L O. H.
