Fullerton Creek Job Start Urged
County Supervisors Request WPA To Begin Project at Early Date
Work Projects administration was asked yesterday to proceed immediately on improvement of the Fullerton relief channel, a $342,089 project which already stands approved. The request came from the county board of supervisors.
The request for start of work was filed following supervisorial action of allocating $138,335 as the county's share of the cost. The money comes from the 2,500,000 bonds voted two years ago for the county-wide program of flood control and water conservation.
Fullerton creek is an integral part of the county-wide program and its improvement is held to be a vital necessity to control runoff from the hills which later will be impounded in both Fullerton and Brea canyon dams, next on the construction list in order named.
The job calls for straightening of the channel, deepening and widening, and removal of levees. By removing the embankments lining the channel, any surface water will be permitted to reach the creek. Similar work will be done on various other creeks.
The board also signed the contract with the Los Angeles firm of Spicer & Thompson, which bid $28,830 for improving Coyote creek in northern Orange county. Work on this project is almost identical, and calls for removal of...

Recreation Plans
Plans for making Buena Park "recreation conscious" during the vacation season next year are rapidly taking shape, it was reported this week by a member of the committee assigned to serve as a coordinating group for the locality.
Committee members are Charles Hillman, representing Buena Park schools; Rudolph Grund, the Kiwanis club; Czerny Peringer, younger businessmen, and Worth C. Miller, newspaper publisher. Hillman is chairman of the committee, efforts of which will be fostered by the Kiwnai club and other groups.
Present plans call for Buena Park representation in the San Gabriel league of girls' teams; the West Orange Junior league, for boys of 17 and under, and in the Orange County B league.
Fencing of the grounds at the Lindbergh school and construc-tion of adding seating capacity there, with an admission charge of 10 cents per game, is also planned. This move is believed to be necessary to provide finances for the three teams.
The grounds will also be prepared for other athletic games and sports such as volley ball and handball.
According to the spokesman for the committee, an attempt will be made to provide all youngsters in the community with adequate recreational facilities during the coming vacation period.

Law on Clearance Lights Interpreted
Owners of trucks, motor vehicles, and house trailers were assured today that green clearance lights need not be replaced with amber lights upon such vehicles on January 1, 1940, providing these vehicles were sold and registered for the first time before midnight on December 31, 1939.
Howard Philbrick, director of motor vehicles, in response to numerous inquiries concerning the new provisions of the California vehicle code requiring amber colored clearance lights, pointed out that only new vehicles first sold and operated on and after January 1 need have lights of this color.
New vehicles sold this year are prohibited from use of radiator ornaments protruding beyond the face of radiator grills, according to department of motor vehicles.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH
"Christ Jesus" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist. These words from John, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life," constitute the Golden Text.
A Bible citation includes these verses from Matthew: "And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. . . . And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him; and he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying. . . . Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill."
A passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy states: "Jesus' spiritual origin and understanding enabled him to demonstrate the facts of being—to prove irrefutably how spiritual Truth destroys material error, heals sickness, and overcomes death."
The Lisbon earthquake of 1755 produced waves on Lake Ontario.

With better knowledge of some of the so-called deficiency diseases of trees and plants, the experiment station has been able to correct symptoms appearing in the form of mottled leaves on citrus, walnut and avocado trees. While zinc sprays have given material beneficial results in many local orchards, certain trees continue to show a mottled condition, says Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahl-
