Athletics Defeat Hollywood Outfit Anaheim Club Faces Producer Driver of Los Angeles Next Sunday With two straight wins to their credit, the Anaheim Athletics seek their third consecutive victory next Sunday afternoon when they tangle with the Produce Drivers of Los Angeles at La Palma stadium at 2:15 o'clock. The Athletics chalked up their second win last Sunday by downing the Hollywood Junior, 7 to 4. Team Manager Joe Huarte will probably use much the same array against the strong Produce Drivers as he has in all four games to date, with players probably being alternated at third base and right field. Bill Thomas Portland Beaver gunner will return to the mound in spite of an injured hand which handicapped him to some extent last Sunday. Anaheim bunched their runs in two innings last Sunday in turning back the Hollywood Juniors chasing over four runs in the opening stanza and then concluding the scoring with a three-run burs in the seventh. Hollywood also got its scores in clusters, tallying twice in both the second and eighth innings. The Athletics collected 11 hits off Wright's offering, but only one double by Ted Neja, went for extra bases. Harrison, Hollywood leftfielder, laced one of Thomas offerings over the centerfield fence for the longest hit of that day. Leading the attack for Anaheim were Don White, Bob Stugeon, Fritz Gunther and Jo Heinz, each of whom got two hits. Sportopix by RUSS McCOMB Football season is turning into the last lay locally, and to Anaheim high school it offers a chance to make a stretch drive which could end with the Sunset league championship. For the other two "local" teams — Santa Ana and Fullerton Jayssees — it offers bare hope for one and welcome relief for the other. This writer can't help feeling that the Colonists are going to be mighty tough to beat for that title, in spite of their loss to Jordan last Friday. Of course, Anaheim must defeat Huntington Beach here tomorrow and Excelsior next week Friday, which would give the Colonists a half-game margin over the Pilots, assuming that Excelsior beats Orange tomorrow. We are inclined to discount the result of the Jordan-Anaheim game on the basis that Anaheim's defense certainly isn't as inefficient as the Panthers' 26-point total would indicate. Rather, we believe, that Jordan simply had one of those extra-special days when everything worked nearly to perfection. Certainly, their attack was not as potent against Excelsior, which they tried, and Newport Harbor, which beat them. On the other hand, Dick Glover's boys have shown a rather consistent offense that appears to be getting better with each game. Barring injuries to key men, the attack should be at its strongest tomorrow and next Friday. The important item at the moment, however, is to get by Huntington Beach tomorrow. Upsets have played too prominent a role in football this year to warrant any team taking an opponent for granted. True, the Oilers' record is Anaheim to Meet Oilers Tomorrow Colenists Hope to Stay in Running for Title With Victory By RUSS McCOMB Still determined to win the Sunset League championship in spite of their loss to Jordan high school last Friday, Anaheim high school's potent gridders play host to Al Reboin's Huntington Beach Oilers here tomorrow afternoon in their final tilt before going into what should be championship engagement with Excelsior a week from tomorrow. Whether the Excelsior game will be for the league championship depends upon the result of tomorrow's contest. Should the Colonists take the Oilers too lightly and get upset as a consequence they will be eliminated from any further consideration. On the other hand, if Anaheim continues to show the good brand of ball it has been playing, the Colonists should win tomorrow and be set to give the Pilots a battle for the title. Anaheim's defeat at the hands of Jordan came at the close of one of the most spectacular games ever played by the Colonists. For the first time this year, Dick Glover's regulars found themselves unable to stop, consistently, an opponent's attack, and wound up on the short end of a 10 to 26 score. Anaheim scored in three of the four periods, but the Panthers matched each tally, added a touchdown in the second quarter, and converted two of the scores to gain the edge. Rosenlof, sterling end, accounted for three of the Jordan touchdowns all of them on Dean Detton Makes Appearance at Club Dean Detton, former world champion, meets George Zahara in the main event next Monday night at the Orange County Letic club. The semi-final event will be a rematch between Coey Carl Davis and Nick Lutza. The preliminaries pit Vic Chryty against K. O. Koverly and RuLaDitzie against Jack Gacek. The headline matches will be two-of-three fall contests. Roseniof completed a pass throw by Gaspar, the throw and run good for 65 yards. In the second period, Rosenlof took the ball on an end-around play and dashed 10 yards to pay dirt. The Panther end's third came in the final quarter and he pay-off tally. Rosenlof pick off a flat pass tossed by JuPerkins and sprinted 45 yardsthe goal line. Jordan's other touchdown also spectacular, with Crawl taking the ball on a triple revival and travelling 36 yards for tally. Anaheim enjoyed a brief in the first period when Perwent off tackle one yard to send and then dropkicked the epoint. The score came after series of passes thrown by Lewis. Cliff Horton's dash of 35 yr in the third period counted again for the Colonists and a 37-sprint by Horton produced final score in the last quarter Neither attempt at conversion successful. Huntington Beach has only victory over Orange in four st but should give the Colonis busy afternoon, nevertheless, celsior, next week's foe, receive a scare at Fullerton last Frie and needed a pass interception Athletics collected 11 hits right's offering, but only one, be by Ted Neja, went for bases. Upsets have played too prominent a role in football this year to warrant any team taking an opponent for granted. True, the Oilers' record is not too impressive, but a win over Anaheim tomorrow would add to its lustre. Santa Ana Jaysee takes on San Mateo tomorrow evening in an in-sectional game at Municipal Bowl as a final warmup for its Thanksgiving day set-to with Fullerton. At the same time Fullerton is playing host to Pomona in a conference contest that should be won by the Red Raiders. The Dons see hopes of sharing the conference title if Riverside can pull a surprise on Chaffey's Panthers when they meet. A Riverside win would throw the three teams mentioned above into a three-way tie for the title: Baseball edges in for a little space this week, with congratulations in order for Vic Ruedy and Joe Huarte who are doing a fine job with the Anaheim Athletics. Defeated in their first two games, Ruedy still went after the better teams from Los Angeles. Improvement in the team play of the Athletics as well as some fine individual work, has brought the Anaheim crew two straight wins and indicate the local boys are headed for more. Attendance has slowly but surely been increasing, and should get a whole lot better shortly. The Athletics hustle, play heads-up, smart baseball and have just about the right balance between experienced and inexperienced players to be of benefit of the club. Baseball fans could do much worse than to drop out to La Palma stadium next Sunday to see the club go through its paces. Christmas Club’s Output is Large A great Christmas shopping season lies just ahead for Anaheim, judging from the outpouring of Christmas funds scheduled to go to the local members of Bank of Cliff Horton's dash of 35 yr in the third period counted a for the Colonists and a 37-sprint by Horton produced final score in the last quarter Neither attempt at conversion successful. Christmas Club’s Output is Large A great Christmas shopping season lies just ahead for Anaheim, judging from the outpouring of Christmas funds scheduled to go to the local members of Bank of America's Christmas club on December 1. In Anaheim more than $32,000 will be paid out to 706 club members according to O. E. Hanson, manager of Bank of America's interest here. Throughout California more than 215,000 club members will receive a grand total of approximately $14,000,000 which is more than 16 per cent higher than last year, and also is an all-time high mark for the nation. Bank of America's Christmas club is the largest in existence. "Obviously the Christmas club method of making sure of plenty of money for Christmas is becoming increasingly popular," said Hanson. "Small weekly, semi-monthly or monthly deposits, or salary deductions, are hardly missed. However, the total at the end of the year, plus interest paid by the bank, proves highly acceptable to club members." "Merchants are appreciative, as the plan is a vital stimulant to business. "Other figures disclose that not only are the Christmas savers increasing in numbers throughout the state, but the average amount of individual savings is increasing. In 1930, the average weekly deposit per member was 54 cents. Today, the average is $1.36."
