Twice a year the scout troops from the council are called upon to participate in actual out-of-door camping under the direct leadership of the boys themselves and under competition for awards. Hopes for Anaheim scouts to place in this council program are resting with the four newly awarded Eagle Scouts of troop No. 71 sponsored by the Masonic lodge under the leadership of Scoutmaster R. S. Harvey and troop committee consisting of A. P. M. Brown, chairman, C. S. Barthelmes, D. H. Deane and R. E. Morter. These Eagle Scouts were responsible for Anaheim's showing in the pow wow held at Placentia last spring and under the direction of these Eagles other scouts are being taught these events and also some of the art of camping. Coming over from Long Beach to tackle the Dons at Santa Ana municipal bowl will be the conference-leading Vikings, while Santa Monica's Corsairs, not yet out of the running, visit Fullerton for a battle with the Hornets. Santa Ana and Santa Monica appear to be the likely winners if everybody is shooting the works. Tomorrow afternoon at 2:45 o'clock Dick Glover sends his Anaheim high school gridders into an important engagement with Jordan high school on the North Long Beach school's gridiron. Right now the game appears to be pretty even, with the edge probably going to the squad that is the most determined. Personally, the writer like the chances of the Colonists, largely because Glover's boys haven't been beaten in Sunset league play yet and seem to possess the idea they would like to win the championship. They aren't taking Jordan lightly, because Rocky Kemp's club won the title last year and still have a formible machine, despite their loss to Newport Harbor Friday. Maybe Chaffey Jaysee figures they cinched the eastern conference championship last Friday night when they beat Santa Ana, 7 to 6, but the writer isn't so Colonists Ready for Crucial Test Victory Over Jordan Friday Would Give Anaheim Shot at Title By RUSS McCOMB Dick Glover's Anaheim Colonists will probably know tomorrow night whether they are on the verge of winning the Sunset league grid championship, or whether they have been on top of the league as the result of having met the weaker teams first. This information should be furnished by the result of their engagement with the Jordan high school team at North Long Beach. Leading the loop now as the result of three straight victories, Anaheim's confidence should have mounted slightly as the result of their own fine game against Whitier last Friday night and Jordan's unexpected loss to Newport Harbor the same afternoon. If that confidence was elevated enough to make them believe they have a chance to win, and not so much as to make them cocky, the Colonists ought to give Rocky Kemp's boys a busy time of it, and a victory wouldn't be out of the question. Coach Glover used his reserves in all but the first quarter of the game Friday night against Whitier, and although the team lost, 20 to 6, he was quite pleased with the performance of some of his reserves. If Coach Johnny Arrambide of Whitier had lived up to his pre-game agreement with Glover to use his regulars only in the first period, the outcome of the game might have been different. MATERNITY NURSE COUNTY CARRY Of 208 mothers cared for during the first nine months of the Orange County health department maternity nursing service's history, three mothers gave birth to sets of twins. Of these, two sets were boys and one set girls. These figures were included in the recently submitted report to Dr. H. Sutherland, county health officer. In addition to the report of 22 births, four of which were still births, the statistics showed that only one maternal death occurred. Five infant deaths were reported although in the infant deaths and stillbirths were numbered one on the three sets of twins. The one maternal death occurred six weeks after in a hospital to which the patient had been taken following the home delivery. One infant death was due to pneumonia and the other fourances, with Glover using 30 players during the tussle. He did not however, send Art Shipkey, Cliff Horton and Bob Smith into the contest at any time. Shipkey and Smith have both been bothered by injuries, but it is expected that they will be in shape for tomorrow's battle. Shipkey's return will permit Glover to send Smith back to his regular en position, which should increase both the offensive and defensive strength of the teams. Glen Shoop is expected to lead the Jordon attack tomorrow. He has been a star for two years, and when he gets some help from his teammates is a mighty tough competitor to handle. Jordan will Consored by the Masonic order the leadership of R. S. Harvey and committee consisting of Brown, chairman, C. S. D. H. Deane and R. E. Maybe Chaffey Jaysee figures they cinched the eastern conference championship last Friday night when they beat Santa Ana, 7 to 6, but the writer isn't so sure. The Panthers still must get by Riverside, to say nothing of the apparently rejuvenated San Bernardino eleven, and unless they show a better ground attack while within scoring territory they might not take Riverside. At least eight times in their past two games (Fullerton and Santa Ana) the Panthers have failed to shove the oval over the goal line while down within the 10-yard ribbon. Chaffey seems more dangerous out around mid-field that any place else, and the Tigers aren't going to be a pushover for Burt Heiser's outfit. Santa Ana and Fullerton have two weeks to wait before they meet in their annual Thanksgiving day battle at the Santa Ana bowl. with the Dons playing two non-ference foes and the Hornets having contests coming with one out-of-league opponent and Pomona. Right now, it looks like Santa Ana should win the Orange county championship with something to spare. Seal Beach May Secure Industry Seal Beach city council late last week took first steps in providing an industrial tract in that city, presumably to enable the Dow Chemical company to take up its option on 22 acres of land in the northwest section of the city. The Dow Chemical company manufactures iodine and other chemical products. The plant, if it is established at Seal Beach, will bring some 50 families to the city and will require the construction of several large buildings. It is expected that the new zoning ordinance designed to permit the establishment of the company will be adopted November 16. Coach Glover used his reserves in all but the first quarter of the game Friday night against Whitier, and although the team lost, 20 to 6, he was quite pleased with the performance of some of his reserves. If Coach Johnny Arrambide of Whittier had lived up to his pre-game agreement with Glover to use his regulars only in the first period, the outcome of the game might have been different. Best of the reserves appeared to be Jim Betzsold and Earl Williams, the latter scoring the only Anaheim touchdown. Fitts to Speak at Memorial Services Preceeding the annual Orange county Armistice day celebration to be held at Huntington Beach this Saturday, District Attorney Buron Fitts of Los Angeles county will address the memorial service to be held Friday evening at 8 o'clock at Memorial Hall, Huntington Beach. The speaker is a past stale department commander, with a long record of American Legion service. He has sponsored more beneficial legislation in behalf of veterans than any other individual in California, his friends say. The maternity nursing service is maintained for patients who are unable to afford private nursing care at the time of delivery, but who are under the care of private physicians availing themselves of this public health nursing and educational facility. The value of prenatal nursing and medical care before, during, and after the birth of a child cannot be over-emphasized, Dr. Sutherland points out. It is one way to safeguard the lives of our mothers and babies and to prevent even one maternal death in 208. In cooperating with the state department of Public Health, the Old-Type Guns Will be Used in Matches The annual match of the Southern California Arms Collectors association, to feature competitions with old flintlock muskets and percussion types of rifles and revolvers, will be held next Sunday at the club range near Irvine Park, Dr. Roy S. Horton of Santa Ana is committeeman arranging the matches. Orange county health department offers the maternity nursing service to those eligible in the hope that through increased health supervision and education, combined with medical and nursing care, the number of infant and maternal deaths may continue to decrease within the county.
