This was the stand taken today by the county committee headed by Lotus H. Louden, Anaheim publisher, which is assuming direction of the program launched by the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce to take politics out of relief, cut governmental costs and return control of government to local governmental units. Members of the committee expressed the opinion that taxpayers who put up the money for ever-increasing costs of relief should be entitled to have access to the relief rolls, according to Secretary Howard I. Wood of the committee. "The effect of refusal by public officials to permit taxpayers to examine the relief rolls is that only the officials who put people on the relief rolls and those whom they permit to see the rolls, have an opportunity to investigate individual cases," Wood said. Determination on the part of the committee to take action to make the relief rolls available to taxpayers came after Welfare Director Thomas P. Douglas of Orange county quoted a state-ruling which he said prohibits most people from seeing the rolls. The section quoted by Douglas was adopted by the state legislature in 1937 as an amendment to the state welfare and institution code. This section says, in part: "All applications and records concerning any individual made or kept by any public officer or agency under provision of this code shall be confidential, and AND "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and "King of Chinatown" PLAY "SUPER PAY-ME" Every Monday and Thursday READ THE GAZETTE ADS FOR NEWS NEW LOCATION OF FRANK'S CLOCK SHOP 106 So.
