WHY TAKE BLOOD PRESSURE?
There is no diagnostic procedure which gives the doctor more information about his middle-aged patient than an accurate blood pressure determination.
The trained physician can learn the condition of the arteries, heart action, and detect symptoms of many diseases, only successfully treated in their early stages, such as Bright's disease, toxic goiter, a tendency toward apoplexy.
Low blood pressure is not particularly frequent or serious, and is an indication of some debilitating condition. It is also true of high blood pressure that it is a symptom – not a disease. The way to cure high blood pressure is to prevent it by regular general examinations, so that any beginning increase may be detected in time to do something about it.
