SOCIETY Sixteen Members Honored by Club Sixteen members of the Anaheim Townsend club, each of whom celebrate birthday anniversaries this month, were honored at a pot-luck birthday dinner at the clubrooms last Thursday evening. Three large birthday cakes were cut for the more than 100 persons present. Mrs. May L. Griggs and Miss Maud Comstock were in charge of the dinner. Rev. Grant Smith was in charge of the program which followed the meal. An instrumental trio composed of Emil Martens, Miss Evelyn Bauman and Harold Bauman played several selections, and Rev. Smith gave three readings, "Who was St. Patrick? Scotchman? Irishman? Townsend?" "Ef Townsend Had His Druthers"; and "An Old Played-Out Song and Townsend in Congress." Visitors from Los Angeles, Long Beach, Fullerton, Santa Ana and Cleveland, Ohio, were present. Junior Ebell Club Stages Benefit Event A benefit bridge party and style show was given at the Ebell clubhouse Saturday afternoon by the Junior Ebell club. Funds will be contributed to the children's ward at the Orange county hospital. Many members of the organization displayed a wide variety of gowns loaned for the occasion by most of Anaheim's dress shop. Guests were greeted by Mrs. Ewald Lemcke, president of the Junior Ebell club. Others in the receiving line were Mrs. Charles Harbeson, advisor; Mrs. Robert Harvey, first vice president; Mrs. Arthur Dickinson and Miss Florence Backs. The guests were shown to their seats by a corps of ushers which included Mrs. Gilbert Kuenzli, Miss Mary Bell, Mrs. C. B. Ralston, Mrs. William Grafton, Miss Anita Lee Androus, Mrs. William McCarthy, Mrs. Carroll Cone, Mrs. Dickinson, Mrs. Allison Polley and Mrs. Richard Glover. Musicale Entertains St. Agnes Guild Mrs. Dana S. Newkirk of Fullerton and William Cook of Anaheim presented a program of piano and violin selections during a musicale held Monday evening at the Butterfly studio by the St. Agnes Guild. Martha Houts and Xerxes Stone Wed Marriage vows were exchanged in the Baptist church at Yum Ariz., Monday evening by Miss Martha Houts and Xerxes Stone. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Houts, 401 W North street, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Stone of Santa Ana. The wedding came as a surprise to friends of the young couple. They had been given to understand the ceremony would take place in the late spring. Mr. and Mrs. Stone will establish their new home at Hamilton City, Calif., following their honey moon. NEWSY NOTES Mr. and Mrs. George Fendlay of South Las Angeles street spends Sunday in Burbank visiting relatives and celebrating birthday anniversaries. A son was born last Thursday March 16, at St. Joseph hospice to Mr. and Mrs. Fayette Birtchel of 914 W. Center street. Lyle V. Hart, of Route 2, boasts 218, Anaheim, enlisted in the United States navy from the LA Angeles recruiting office last week. Clara Jane Lemcke is the newest historian in the law offices of Leo J. Fritis and Warren L. Schut succeeding the former Miss Su Davies, who resigned when she became the bride of Alfred H. Beailey of Fullerton. Anaheim Sorority Assists at Breakfast Tau chapter of Anaheim of Beta Sigma Phi national sorority joined with Phi chapter of Fullerton as hostesses to the southern California council at a breakfast Sunday morning at Lakewood Country club at Lakewood Village. During the business meeting, Miss Irma Wiese of Fullerton was elected president of the council. Features of the program were a fashion show presented by Mrs. Jack Corn of Anaheim and a talk on "The Easter Parade" by Mrs. Dixie O. Michelson of the art department faculty of the University of Southern California. She was introduced by Mrs. Emma Jackson of Phi chapter. Mrs. Wilbert Bonney is Luncheon Hostess A group of out-of-town women were luncheon guests of Mrs. Wilbert Bonney of South Lemon street on Tuesday. The six women who were seated at the luncheon table became acquainted some years ago when all were attending a convention of the P. E. O. sisterhood at Sacramento. They have met regularly for luncheon since. Mrs. Bonney's guests were Mrs. Jack Zinn and Mrs. Robert McCool of Fullerton, Mrs. Nelson Launer of La Habra, Mrs. Hugh Plumb and Mrs. Charles Fuller of Santa Ana. Santa Ana Girl Weds Edward Idlor Miss Frances Hill of Santa Ana, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Hill of Huntington Beach, became the bride Sunday afternoon of Edward Idlor of this city. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Robert John Coyne of Huntington Beach at Capilla de San Antonio wedding chapel. The bridal couple's only attendants were Mrs. Ross Chamberlain and Richard Wilson. Upon their return from their honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Idlor will make their home at 1311 Crone avenue. Y. L. I. Initiates Ten Members Musicale Entertains St. Agnes Guild Mrs. Dana S. Newkirk of Fullerton and William Cook of Anaheim presented a program of piano and violin selections during a musicale held Monday evening at the Buttree studio by the St. Agnes Guild of St. Michael's Episcopal church. The musicale took the place of the regular meeting of the guild. Mrs. Newkirk is a noted pianist and piano teacher. Mr. Cook, a member of the faculty of Anaheim union high school, was accompanied during his group of violin solos by J. Mason Henry, also a member of the high school faculty. The evening was planned by a committee composed of Miss Hazel Tilson, Mrs. C. R. Brandon, Mrs. Robert Rundstrom and Miss Louise Spies of La Habra. St. Patrick's day motif was followed in the table decorations and the refreshments which were served at the close of the evening. Mrs. D. Katherine McCullah Presents Recital A large number of Anaheim people attended the piano recital given Monday evening at Occidental college by Miss Katherine McCullah of this city. The young artist was assisted by the woman's quartet of the college. Miss McCullah played a group of selections by Bach, Chopin and modern composers. The feature of the recital was the playing of Rachmaninoff's "Concerto," in which she was assisted by Prof. Alexander Kosloff at the second piano and Prof. Walter Hartley at the pipe organ.
