SPORTOPIX by RUSS McCOMB The writer has talked to several basketball fans of Anaheim during recent weeks, and many of them have said they like the game, but don't feel like driving into Los Angeles to see a university contest. They want to see outstanding basketball or none at all. My answer has been, "Try taking in one of the Fullerton Jaysee games." In spite of the fact that Fullerton has a paid publicity writer, we are going to take some of the play away from him and write a few interesting facts about the Hornet cagers. To date, Fullerton has won 19 out of 23 games played, numbering among their victims Pomona college, La Verne college, Redlands university and Pasadena. Walnut Institute Planned at Chino Many Orange county walnut growers will join other southern California growers for their 21st annual institute to be held at Chino high school, Friday, February 10, beginning at 9:30 o'clock. The program will be of unusual interest and importance this season, according to Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg. Both cultural and economic topics are scheduled for discussion. Dr. L. D. Batchelor, director of the citrus experiment station, will preside at the morning session and J. A. Smiley, West Orange walnut growers and chairman of the farm bureau department, will preside in the afternoon. All growers are invited to attend, regardless of marketing affiliations, says Rufus Porter, Fullerton, chairman of the local walnut department of the farm bureau. These institutes are conducted for the improvement of the industry and the farm income. They are conducted jointly by the farm bureau and the agricultural extension service. Junior college. Three of the games were conference contests, with Citrus, Chaffey and San Bernardino losing to the Hornets. Two of the four games lost were to Modesto Jaysee. Three of the games were conference contests, with Citrus, Chaffey and San Bernardino losing to the Hornets. Two of the four games lost were to Modesto Jaysee. The others were to Santa Rosa Jaysee and UCLA Frosh, with the Hornets beating Santa Rosa in a return match. During the 23 games played, Fullerton has amassed a total of 1097 points, or an average of almost 48 points a game. The defensive average is not so spectacular, being 39.5 points a contest. Four times the Hornets have scored 60 or more points a game, climaxing their efforts with a 70 to 55 win over Pasadena and a 68 to 49 conquest of Chaffey within three days. The three conference games have netted 166 points, or 55.3 points per game. Leading scorer of the club is Captain Tom Keesey, a forward who prepped at York, Pa. He has averaged 13.6 points a contests, having a total of 314 digits. Next in line is Bob White, one of a pair of twins who are 6 feet 6 inches tall. Bob, regular center, has slipped in 241 points in the 23 games. Keesey and White are neck-and-neck in conference scoring, with the latter leading, 45 to 44. Keesey has caged 50 out of 62 free throws and had a string of 22 consecutive points from the foul line. Coach Art Nunn's cagers have run up a conference win streak of 25 games in conference and championship contests. They have been undefeated in the past two seasons, winning the southern California championship in 1937 and the conference title last year. There was no southland playoff in 1938. Barring a startling upset, Feature of the program talk by R. W.
