15 Boy Scouts to Get Eagle Badges All-County Court of Honor Will be Held Feb. 4 at Fullerton The largest number of eagle awards ever to be awarded by the Orange county council, Boy Scouts of America, will be presented to 15 scouts and two scout-masters on the evening of February 4 at the all county court of honor to be held in the Fullerton union high school auditorium at 7:30 o'clock. The eagle scout award is the highest a scout can make. Besides being a first class scout a boy must serve satisfactorily his home, his troop and his community for a period of 18 months. With the 18 months service completed and with additional merit badges in varied subjects totaling 21, he may then make application to the national council of the Boy Scouts of America for his eagle badge. Boys who will receive the eagle badge at the court of honor on February 4 are Loren Wiedman, Earl Warren and Chris Warren, Troop No. 1, Huntington Beach; William Barnett, Harry Minato and Bruce Lighter, Troop No. 6, Costa Mesa; Junior Burkhart and Paul Murray, Troop 16, Seal Beach; Scoutmaster B. F. Moler, Troop No. 20, Balboa Island; William Robinson, Troop 32, Tustin; Donald G. Knowlton, Troop No. 92, Fullerton; Jack C. Berry, Troop 96, La Habra; Robert G. Gibb, Troop No. 99, Yorba Linda; Lee Porter, Owen B. Johnson and Scoutmaster Charles B. Reed. Advertising Executives R. Z. ELLER R. S. SIMMONS California Fruit Growers Exchange announced late last week an appointment of Russell Eller as advertising manager and R. S. Simons as assistant advertising manager. The appointments became effective February 1. Both Eller and Simmons have been connected with the Exchange's advertising department for many years. Mauerhan Chosen Section Chairman Members of the citrus department of the Orange county Farm bureau, meeting last Thursday afternoon, elected C. J. Mauerhan of Anaheim as the department's chairman for the coming year. Henry S. Campbell of Orange was elected vice-chairman. James Baker of Anaheim and H. H. Gardner of Orange will serve on the executive committee together with the other officers. This committee is charged with the duty of outlining the program for the average yield of avocado for 1938 was 1,276 pounds per acre, the average yield for bearing Orange county orchard reporting over a nine-year period to the farm advisor's office. Iow yield, resulting from the January 1937 freeze, brought avocados in line with most other cultural crops in California. Farm income per acre was lowest in the nine years. The cent improvement in price pounded in 1938 over 1937 was enough to make up for the usual low yield per acre. Troop No. 1, Huntington Beach; William Barnett, Harry Minato and Bruce Lighter, Troop No. 6, Costa Mesa; Junior Burkhart and Paul Murray, Troop 16, Seal Beach; Scoutmaster B. F. Moler, Troop No. 20, Balboa Island; William Robinson, Troop 32, Tustin; Donald G. Knowlton, Troop No. 92, Fullerton; Jack C. Berry, Troop 96, La Habra; Robert G. Besides these eagle awards star, life and palm awards will near the 100 mark for other scouts. Entertainment will be furnished by some of the best talent ever to be presented at a court of honor in Orange county. Oscar Kirkham, well known to the southland in scouting groups, will tell one of his Indian stories of the Magic mountain which will set the scene for the evening's entertainment and will carry out the Indian motive. Bert Harwell, park naturalist of Yosemite and nationally known figure on birds and their calls, will give a demonstration of various bird whistles and calls illustrated by colored slides. Helping to carry out the Indian motif will be a group of Indian songs and dances presented by the students of the Sherman Indian Institute. Miss Gwen Roberts, known for her activities in the philharmonic group in Los Angeles and her singing in the various operas in that city, has consented to favor the group with two or three numbers. The court of honor-will be open to the public without charge. Chairman Kenneth Kessler assisted by Judge Kenneth E. Morrison, Karl Parks, H. M. Bergen, and Dr. Samuel Cortez, promise an interesting evening of entertainment and education for all who attend. A Dollar spent in Anaheim will find its way back to the spender. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH "Love" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist. The Golden Text is from the Psalms: "How excellent is thy loving kindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings." One of the Bible selections in the Lesson-Sermon presents this verse from Deuteronomy: Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations." These verses from John's first epistle are also included: "Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love... And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." A passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states: "The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle." PLAN PROGRAM A Pacific coast broadcast of the West Coast Church of the Air will be conducted on Sunday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. over KNX, Hollywood, by Archibald W. Edes, C. S. B., of Beverly Hills, assisted by Miss Clemence Gifford, soloist, and Charles W. Adams, organist.
