Start of Eleventh Year Marked By Metropolitan Water District
Officials of The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Friday celebrated the tenth anniversary of the formation of the district as a governmental body by completing arrangements for the delivery of the first Colorado river water into the giant Metropolitan aqueduct.
First officially organized at a meeting held on December 29, 1928 in Pasadena, the board of directors of this governmental unit of the state has since that time successfully planned, financed and brought nearly to completion the $200,000,000 aqueduct that is recognized today as the largest and longest domestic water supply system in the world.
This was pointed out in a statement made Friday at the meeting of the district board of directors by Vice Chairman Franklin Thomas.

who represents Pasadena on the governing board and has been a member of the board ever since its organization meeting in Pasadena ten years ago.
"It has been ten years of amazing and historic accomplishment," said Vice Chairman Thomas. "Ten years ago, when the district board met for the first time in Pasadena, there was only the great dream of securing a life-giving water supply from the distant Colorado river.
"Today that dream has come true. During the past ten years all preliminary engineering plans were completed, the aqueduct route selected, a $200,000,000 bond issue authorized by the people of the district by a majority of five to one, the bonds successfully marketed and actual construction work on the world's largest water supply system practically completed."
At the same time Director Victor H. Rossetti, chairman of the board's public relations committee, announced the completion of all arrangements for the celebration which on Saturday, January 7, will mark the actual start of operations at the aqueduct's intake pumping plant situated on the Colorado river, 300 miles from the 13 cities which comprise the Metropolitan Water district.
The celebration will take place at Gene Basin reservoir, where the first water from the Colorado river will be delivered early Saturday afternoon by the giant electrically driven pumps at intake pumping plant. In this, the first
