SPORTOPIX by RUSS McCOMB Dick Glover's Anaheim Colonists finally broke into the win column last Friday afternoon when Cliff Horton led his mates to a 13 to 0 win over Huntington Beach which was even more decisive than the score indicates. The Oilers never had a chance, and the Colonists lost out on several scoring opportunities. Playing like they did Friday, Anaheim should take a decision over Long Beach Jordan high school tonight in a contest being played at Long Beach Jaysee at 7:30 o'clock. The beach club was held to a 7-7 tie by Newport last Friday, a team that also tied Anaheim, 0-0. Little Horton was the shining light of the Colonist team Friday. He averaged nearly six yards every time he carried the ball and his kicking was superb. He appears to be the spearhead that Glover has been searching for all year. In Jaysee ranks, Fullerton had its six-game winning streak snapped and virtually bowed out of the conference championship race when the Hornets took an 18 to 0 spanking from Chaffey and Santa Ana played its second scoreless tie of the year when neither the Dons nor Riverside were able to push over a tally. In having its longest winning streak in history broken, the Hornets lost to a standout aggregation that had power, speed, alertness and a brilliant star in Captain Les Terry. The Panthers simply overpowered a fighting Fullerton eleven that was outweighed about 20 pounds to the man along the line and couldn't capitalize on its speed because the Chaffey secondary defense was even faster. Chaffey fans have been lauding their Japanese ace, Kobei Shoji, as the star of the team. Shoji was plenty good, as witness his 45-yard touchdown gallop, but he was definitely second-fiddle to Terry last Friday. The Panther captain gave a demonstration of individual brilliance the equal of anything this writer has ever seen. By that I mean he stood out on the field as much as a major college star exceeds the average ability in his games. Longest run of the game was credited to Aubrey Minter, Hornet quarter, who broke away on his own 19 and raced to Chaffey's 13 before Terry caught him and forced him out of bounds. Bill Cook's Dons definitely eliminated themselves from championship consideration. Riverside had a statistical edge and barely missed a field goal attempt in the final quarter. Tomorrow, while Fullerton is journeying to San Bernardino for its second tough battle in a series of three that ends with Santa Ana on Turkey day, Santa Ana moves to Ontario to find out whether Terry is as good as approximately 9,000 who saw the Fullerton game believe he is.
