Orange County 4-H Club Members Win More Prizes at Pomona Fair The results of judging of 4-H entries of vegetables, honey, bees and sheep at the Pomona fair have been announced by Ross E. Crane, assistant farm advisor. A number of winners were county members. In the vegetable classes, winners were Steve Foster, La Habra; Sam Bendlin, Costa Mesa; William Beach, Costa Mesa; William Stocks, Buena Park; David Wischnack, Placentia and Harvey Hartman, Buena Park. Edward Ehman of Olive was awarded first for citrus nursery seedling. In the apiary division, Benny Hayden, Tustin; Julius Hilbers, Anaheim; Paul Lieb, Anaheim; Joe Lieb, Jr., of Anaheim, were prize winners. In the fat lamb division Bob Kettler of Anaheim and Ted Peters took major honors. A total of $39 each was won by these two members. In the feature booth division, a total of $70 was won by the following clubs: Katella Farmers, Anaheim, $20; Tustin Livewires, $20; Cackle and Root club of La Habra, $10; Olive Sunkist Girls, $10; and the Sandwash club, $10. A total of 30 first places, 21 second places, eight thirds, and six fourths have been awarded to entries of Orange county 4-H club members. The total cash awards to date is $218, with poultry entries to be judged later. October 7, at the Anaheim high school auditorium. Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg invites growers to submit their questions for consideration and discussion at the institute. They may be sent to his office at 211 Court House Annex, San Ana. Time will permit only questions of an industry wide nature affecting growers generally. The questions will be discussed by a large panel of growers, directors and business men who have intimate contact with the citrus industry for many years. The members of the panel were selected from the major marketing organizations operating in Orange county. Besides the panel discussion on current questions from the growers, several specialists in marketing, economics and transportation costs will be heard. A. A. Brock state director of agriculture, Sarmento, and Wahlberg, representing the University of California will preside over the institute sessions.
