Fullerton officers arrested Eddie Taylor, 27; Harold Garad, 66, and Bill Hoffsinger, 64, and charged them with distributing unsigned statements intended to defeat a candidate for election. All three subsequently pleaded guilty and were given suspended sentences of 60 days each. Printers Arrested Monday afternoon Burt Hardwick and Robert Elliott of the Los Angeles concern which is alleged to have printed the books appeared before City Judge Halsey Spence of Fullerton on charges of criminal libel. The complaints were signed by George Holden of Anaheim and A. B. Berry of Santa Ana. They posted $1,000 bail for their appearance at 2 o'clock on September 13 for preliminary examination. A third warrant charging criminal libel was made out for the arrest of "J. M. Paulsen," said by Hardwick and Elliott to have been the name given by the person who ordered the books printed and paid $600 in cash for the work. Authorities have neither affirmed or denied rumors that the name "Paulsen" is fictitious. A grand jury investigation of the case was requested by District Attorney Menton and Sheriff Logan Jackson, by the request was denied by Presiding Judge James L. Allen of the superior court on the ground that offenses involved by printing and distributing of the pamphlets were disdemeanors. Teacher Wins Fight With School Boys A year-long battle of Miss Ina Gerritt to force the Fullerton high school district to her permanent rating as a teacher was won late last week, with ervations. Superior Court Judge C. Beaumont ruled that Miss Gerritt is entitled to permanent rating a three-fifths basis. He deem that testimony proved she been employed as a high school teacher three-fifths of the time as a junior college instructor remaining two-fifths. A grand jury investigation of the case was requested by District Attorney Menton and Sheriff Logan Jackson, by the request was denied by Presiding Judge James L. Allen of the superior court on the ground that offenses involved by printing and distributing of the pamphlet were disdemeanors only and that grand jury lacks jurisdiction over disdemeanors. MORE ABOUT Holden's Answers (Continued from page 6) silence gives consent, and I am so constituted that I cannot remain silent even though I am fighting an enemy that lurks somewhere in the dark, who had employed the dastardly trick of flooding the county a few days before the election with unauthorized, vilifying propaganda. "I make these statements not only in my own behalf, but in the interests of decency and good government, in the interests of those respectable citizens who have offered themselves for public service, their families and friends, in the interest of clean campaigns, however hard they may be fought, so long as they are fought open and above board without the taint of skullduggery, without the reprehensible methods employed by the 'committee of 33,' whose pamphlet is a libel on the ranchers, the ministers, the business and professional men, the housewives and the public accountant and newspapermen of Orange county, are cross section claimed to comprise that committee. "A polecat usually marks his trail, and I have every reason to believe that 33 of them, if there are 33, can not pollute the political atmosphere without being detected. Time will tell. In conclusion let me state that should I be elected district attorney I will give the people of Orange county a vigorous enforcement of the law without fear of the underworld or favor to anyone. I will endeavor to save the taxpayers' money by conducting the civil duties of the office in an ordered manner." RETAIN Your Disc 1.
