Lorena Bever Puffer Weds Don Thompson
Wedding vows exchanged in the garden chapel of Capilla de San Antonio last Saturday evening united in marriage Mrs. Reona Bever Puffer and Don Thompson. The service was read by Rev. W. Rogers of Long Beach and the bride was given in marriage by her father, M. E. Bever.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. Bever and the late Mrs. Anna Bever. She has resided in Anaheim many years and is a graduate of Anaheim union high school. Mr. Thompson recently came to this city from Denver, Colo.
The bridal couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Keller, the latter a sister of the bride's. The wedding march was played by Miss Frances Nuckolls, who also sang two appropriate selections.
Wedding guests included Mr. and Mrs. Arch Henry, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jacobs, Mrs. Ramona Wallace, Mrs. Mary Betzold, Mrs. Ethel Badger, Mrs. Blanche Rogers, Miss Orena Bever, Miss Edna Betzold, Miss Alice Betzold, Miss Dot Summerville, Miss Elizabeth Badger, Miss Helen Badger, Joseph G. Anaheim Townsend club will hold its regular card party Friday
Three Serve as Party Hostesses
Mrs. Phil Akerman, Miss Ruth Rymer and Miss Helen Mahaffey were co-hostesses last Friday evening at a pottery shower given in honor of Miss La Verne Hires at the home of Mr. Martha Wallop on North Emily street. The honored guest will become the bride of J. Frank Cone on August 16.
Miss Hires was presented with a yellow and turquoise blue set of pottery.
Winners of bridge prizes were Miss Dene Christie and Miss Esther Zeppenfeld. Miss Frances Monnig received an award for court whist.

Townsend Club Plans Card Party
Anaheim Townsend club will hold its regular card party Friday evening, August 12, at the club headquarters, 224 E. Center street. All the regular games will be played and prizes will be awarded.
Following the games ice cold watermelon will be served. A score of 500 points will be given all who start playing at 8 o'clock, it was said. The public is invited, Mrs. Ida Freeman, president, declared.
Inter-Center Picnic Scheduled Friday
The annual inter-center picnic of the Anaheim, Cypress-Magnolia and Garden Grove farm centers will be held at the Anaheim city park tomorrow (Friday) evening. A section in the southwest corner of the park has been reserved for the event.
Feature of the evening will be the speech by Congressman Harry R. Sheppard, scheduled for 7:30 o'clock.
The program will open with a baseball game at 4:30 o'clock to be followed by a picnic dinner at 6 o'clock. At the close of the dinner a short entertainment will be given by Sciarrino's accordion band of Santa Ana, followed by the introduction of guests and Congressman Sheppard's address. A baseball game for adults will start about 8 o'clock and will conclude the program.

Peggy Akerman’s Betrothal Told
Betrothal of Miss Peggy Akerman to Paul Prentiss of Oran was announced this week by the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and M. H. D. Akerman at a dinner party given at their home, 331 S. Olstreet. No date for the wedding was announced.
Mr. Prentiss is the son of William Prentiss of San Francisco and Mrs. Prentiss of Glendale. He has been residing recently at Orange Dinner guests were Mrs. Regina Inge, Miss Grace Adams, Clayta Woodbury, Bob Faust, John M. Candless, Ainsworth Burkett, and the honored couple.
Marie Wilson to Marry on October 21
Miss Marie Wilson, daughter of the late Allen Wilson and Mr. Robert White, will be married on October 21 at the Mission Inn Riverside to Nick Grinde, mott picture director, it was disclosed Los Angeles yesterday.
The bride-elect was born Anaheim and lived here during her childhood. For the past five years she has been a featured motion picture player. Her father was a prominent Orange county real estate operator.

Viola Aleene Leutwiler Becomes Bride of Glen Shoermaker
At high noon on Sunday, in the First Methodist church at La Habra Mission Hall.
Miss Viola Aleene Leutwiler of La Habra and Glen Eggers Shore of this city were married. Rev. А. T. Kent, pastor of the church claived by the wedding Lohengrin and the accompaniments were played by Mrs. Ear engender of Whittier.
The bride; who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a gown in blue lace over satin, with high neck and long sleeves. Her shoulder length veil was attached to a head dress of net and orange blossoms. She carried a small white bible, on which was a single orchid.
The matron of honor, Mrs. Don Cress of Hollywood, cousin of the bride, was gowned in blue crepe and lace. Her flowers were yellow sweet peas. The bridesmaid, Miss Adelene Harp of La Habra, wore yellow lace and carried blue delphinium. Both wore short veils with a halo of small blossoms. Little Ann Walker, cousin of the bride, was the flower girl. She was gowned in yellow taffeta and carried a basket of rose petals which she scattered before the bride.
John Shoemaker of Glendale, brother of the groom, was best man. Fred Van Raes of Anaheim ushered, assisted by the church ushers.
After the ceremony the bride and groom received the congratulations of those in the church and later a reception was held at the Leutwiler home on Palm avenue, La Habra, at which 70 relatives and friends were present. The three-tiered wedding cake was cut by the bride.

Miss Almira Hain was a honored guest at a miscee shower given last evening at Norman H. Tessner at her 403 E. Center street. After the hostess was her sister Vera Meckes.

The new Mrs. Miller was graduated from Garden Grove union high school. Mr. Miller is a graduate of Anaheim union high school and is a ranche. They will reside on the ranch near Buena Park.

Return from Trip
Mrs. Fred A. Backs and her daughter, Miss Florence Backs, returned Sunday from a three-weeks' automobile trip up the coast as far as Victoria, where they spent several pleasant days. They found the weather pleasant, although people in Oregon and Washington complained of the dry spell which has lasted three months.
Fred Backs and Miss Winifred Melrose met the ladies in Santa Barbara Saturday and the party returned to this city Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Pember and family leave this week for Visalia where they will make their home. Mr. Pember has accepted a position as instructor in building craft in the Visalia junior college.

Assessment of all public utility property, a duty charged to the state board of equalization, was completed in accordance with the law on August 1, the board reports. The assessment rolls will be open for inspection of interested parties until August 15.
Immediately after that date the sessment roll showing assessments board is required to send to each city and county auditor, or other chief accounting officer, the 'as-made by the board on property in their particular jurisdiction.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Leutwiler, members of a pioneer La Habra valley family. She was educated in the Fullerton schools and is also a graduate of Millie Merrill School of costume and design in Hollywood. She designed and made the gowns worn by the wedding party including her own. She is an officer in the La Habra Eastern Star.
Mr. Shoemaker is the son of Mrs. Emma Shoemaker of this city. He attended the Anaheim schools and is a graduate of the local high school. He is employed at Sebastians shoe store in Santa Ana.

Travel Increase
A substantial increase in California during July reported today by J. R. H. general manager of the Railway's coast lines.
"The new coordinated service at lower fares when Fe initiated on July 1 for time in the transportation of the state is largely real for a very definite upward travel on our lines," he declared today."Public action of this new mode of travel is surpassing expectations air-conditioned buses, like the fast Golden Gate strains, are filling a long-run in the San Joaquin valley proving most satisfactory same is true of our more service between Los Angeles San Diego."

Freight Rates Boost Ordered Suspended
Orange county citrus growers
were rejoicing today over a temporary suspension of advances in railroad freight rates that were to have gone into effect July 23.
The delay, which gives ranchers until February 23 to lay their side of the controversy before the interstate commerce commission, will permit them to finish the present valencia season and get well along in the naval season, with the possibility that the requested increase will be cancelled entirely.
Menton Withdraws From Jackson Suit
Charging a series of court actions against Sheriff Logan Jackson is "merely harassment" and legally improper, District Attorney W. F. Menton Monday withdrew
Penalties Become Effective Aug. 20
"Just about two weeks more—after that, penalties."
This is the warning being sounded by County Auditor W. T. Lambert to tax payers who expect to make redemption of property having back taxes against it.
"After August 20 penalties will be added, instead of interest. These penalties are exorbitant, but that is the state law. It is not a new law, but it has not been in use for several years because of special legislation which has given property owners the advantage of interest only instead of penalties," Lambert explains.

Travel Increase
A substantial increase in travel in California during July was reported today by J. R. Hitchcock, general manager of the Santa Fe Railway's coast lines.
"The new coordinated rail-bus service at lower fares which Santa Fe initiated on July 1 for the first time in the transportation history of the state is largely responsible for a very definite upward trend in travel on our lines," Hitchcock declared today. "Public acceptance of this new mode of travel services surpassing expectations. Our air-conditioned buses, linked with the fast Golden Gate streamlined trains, are filling a long-felt want in the San Joaquin valley, and are proving most satisfactory. The name is true of our modernized service between Los Angeles and San Diego."
H. R. Lake, general manager of the Santa Fe Ke's department of highway motor transport and general manager of the Santa Fe Transportation company, who has just completed an inspection tour of the new service in the state, said he is satisfied with the results from an operating standpoint and with the new business created, considering the short time the service has been in effect.
Millard Parks will Attend Conference
G. Millard Parks, assistant to City Engineer E. P. Hapgood, is on route to Mexico City where he will attend the international conference on housing and town planning. The conclave will be held from August 15 to August 19.
