Army Flood Plan Is Nearly Ready Final preliminary survey reports on the 19th congressional district's 12-point flood control program—of which the already authorized Prado dam project is a part—will be completed by war department engineers in time for authorizations for construction at the beginning of the 76th congress, Congressman Harry R. Sheppard announced last week. After conferring with engineers, Sheppard said survey reports authorized by legislation during the last congress will be forwarded to Washington on the following schedule: Upper Santa Ana river in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, Lytle creek, Waterman canyon, San Jacinto river, Bautiste creek, Cucamonga creek and Deer creek, Sept. 30; Mojave river, Oct. 22, and Banning canyon and Whitewater canyon, Nov. 15. The San Antonio and Chino creek reports were filed in May and consequently were in Washington early enough to receive congressional authorization of $6,-500,000 for construction. Until the permanent war department program is under way, emergency flood protection work in the district will be handled under WPA cooperation with cities and counties, Sheppard said. These innovations, according to an announcement by W. M. Jeffers, president of the Union Pacific Railroad, are: 1. "The Copper King" will be the first railroad car in which copper has ever been used extensively for interior decoration, finishings and appointments. Side walls of the car are of satin finished copper paneling, furniture will have copper bronze frames; tables, smoking stands and other accessories will be of copper bronze, and much copper is being used in the construction of the car's buffet. 2. "The Copper King" will be the first railroad car in the world to have natural sun, "light-conditioned" windows, accomplished by the use of Polaroid discs. Twenty-nine of these amazing Polaroid circular windows are being installed in the car, thirteen on either side and three in the slightly circular car end, one of them being in the rear door. Because of ever-growing demands of the traveling public for accommodations on the Union Pacific's streamliners "City of Los Angeles," Jeffers said one of these Diesel-electric trains is being increased in size to 11 cars and a CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH "Spirit" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Paul's words to the Ephesians, "The fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth," are the Golden Text. Among the Bible citations in the Lesson-Sermon are these verses from Paul's letter to the Galatians: "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law"; and the Lesson-Sermon includes also these words of Jesus, from John: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." A passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, presents the statements: "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
