Dortha Ann Pickens
Weds Bert Wilkins
The marriage of Miss Dortha Ann Pickens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Pickens of Fullerton, to Bert R. Wilkins, Jr., of Coalinga, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert R. Wilkins, Sr., 200 Ellsworth street, Anaheim, took place at 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the patio of the Santa Ana wedding chapel. Rev. Earl C. Bloss read the service.
The bride was attended by Miss Virginia Shipley of Norwalk as maid of honor and Mrs. Ferne Peters of Fullerton as bridesmaid. Stanton Riley of Anaheim was the best man and Owen Peters served as usher.
Following the wedding a reception was held at the garden of the Wilkins home, during which the bride cut a decorated, tiered bride's cake.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins left for a one-week honeymoon trip north along the coast. They will reside in Coalinga where he is employed as plant engineer by the Superior Oil company. The bridegroom is a graduate of Santa Ana junior college and University of Arizona and is a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
The new Mrs. Wilkins was graduated from Fullerton union high school and junior college and has been employed as secretary of an automobile agency in Buena Park.
Mrs. Jack Hanson
Entertains Class
The Eulogia class of the Calvary Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Jack Hanson, 612 N. Claudina street. Mrs. Ruth Wilson, president, conducted the business meeting.
Devotionals were led by Mrs. Florence Kerr. The theme was "Three Imperatives of Christianity."
It was planned to hold an ice cream social at the home of Mrs. Arlene Mahoney in August. The date has not yet been determined. The next all-day meeting of the class will be July 26 at the Balboa beach home of Mrs. Leila Campbell.
Guest of the group Tuesday evening was Miss Anna Ambrose.
Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served by a committee composed of Mrs. Hazel Bowen, Mrs. Nancy Butler, Mrs. Louise Boswell, Mrs. Luella Beardsley, and Mrs. Mary Clark.
Walter Merrills
Home from Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Merrill have returned to their home in Anaheim from a nine-weeks' trip into Oregon and Washington. They covered 5000 miles during their tour.

Entertains Officers
Officers of the Lois Rebeidge were entertained early week by the retiring noble girl Mrs. Myrta Saunders, at a nense party given at her home West Broadway. Guests were tired in Chinese costumes.
Prizes for the best costume were awarded Mrs. Edna Brailey and Mrs. Pearl Fergus. Prizes for games were won by Miss Hann Horwitz, Mrs. Blanche Bent and Miss Adele Howards.
Prizes were delivered by Grace and Betty Saunders, daughter of the hostess.
Refreshments of chow mein, cakes, fortune cookies and Chiccandy were served with Mrs.ert Stankey, mother of the less, and Betty Stankey pot the ten.

Max Moodys are Parents of Son
Mr. and Mrs. Max Moody, 619 S. Philadelphia street, are the parents of a son born Monday, July 11, at St. Joseph hospital, Santa Ana. The infant has been named William Allen.
The child is the second in the Moody family. The first child, another boy, is three years of age.
Walter Merrills Home from Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Merrill have returned to their home in Anaheim from a nine-weeks’ trip into Oregon and Washington. They covered 5000 miles during their tour.
A visit was enjoyed with their daughter, Gladys, at Carmel. From there Mr. and Mrs. Merrill went to Seattle to spend some time with the latter’s brother, F. M. Gordon.
The couple also spent a month at Grand View with T. J. Brown, former resident of Anaheim and at one time an employee of the Anaheim Gazette: Mr. Brown is now publisher of the Grand View Herald and visited in Anaheim last year.

Sorority Celebrates Eighth Anniversary
In celebration of the eighth anniversary of their organization members of Eta Gamma chapter of Kappa Delta Phi sorority, Monday night for a “kid” party the Fullerton home of Mrs. D Hemmer. Mrs. Katie Willis chapter president, was assisting hostess.
Three of the 10 charter members still affiliated with the chapter are Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Milton Pomeroy and Mrs. Hyacinth Gibo. The chapter was chartered in Fullerton in July, 1938, with group of Fullerton junior college students organized the club which became affiliated with the nationally-organized sorority... Mrs. Ruggio, then Eleth Hetebrink; was the president.
Initiation and installation of monies were conducted at Pickwick hotel in Anaheim.
Chapter now has 12 members.
At Monday night's party members roller-skated in front of Hemmer home and played balloon in the back yard. They were dressed in rompers or dresses and wore hair ribbons typical of those played eight-year-old girls were playing in the home and children's prince were awarded.
Those present in addition to the hostesses were Mrs. M Ferguson, Mrs. Pomeroy, Nina Backs, Miss Margery Rick, Miss Eileen Muchow, Lueille Maxwell, Miss Mona Taggart and Miss Charlotte Price.

CHURCH Dinner Attracts 100

Mrs. Jack Hanson was chair of the committee planning dinner. Others on the commi were Mrs. Belle McAfee, Mrs. Daws, Mrs. Florence Kerr, M Hazel Bowen and Mrs. Ann Wilson. There was no program.
Mr. and Mrs. Loomis Parents of Girl
A baby daughter was born Mr. and Mrs. Leo Loomis at San Ana Valley hospital Saturday July 9. Mr. and Mrs. Loomis side at 313 S. Lemon street. Baby and mother are reported ing nicely.

Past Presidents' Club Entertained
Members of the Past Presidents' club of the Young Ladies' Institute gathered for dinner at the Doris-Kathryn Tea shop in Santa Ana Monday evening with Miss Mary Ellen Chambers acting as hostess. Following the dinner and a short business meeting the group attended a theater.
Those in attendance were Miss Frances Backs, Miss Mayme Dillon, Miss Marie Robertson, Miss Beryl Kennedy, Mrs. Geraldine Gallagher, Mrs. Mae LeVecke and Mrs. Clara Burkhard.
Mrs. Don Fehlman Entertains Mother
Mrs. Frances Delzell, formerly of Turner, Ore., but now making her home in Fullerton, was guest of honor at a 1 o'clock dinner given Monday by her daughter, Mrs. Don Fehlman of Anaheim.
Those present were Mrs. Delzell, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rossier, Will Griffin of Redondo Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hughes of Fullerton, Edwin Rossier of Pasadena; Mrs. Fehlman and children, Bobby, Dicky and Jerry.

A two weeks' vacation trip through northern Arizona and into the northern part of California was recently completed.
Clothing Exhibit Staged at Park
The first county-wide 4-H club picnic and clothing exhibit to be held in Orange county was staged yesterday at the Anaheim city park under the direction of Miss Frances L. Liles, home demonstration agent.
Members and their mothers participated in the picnic luncheon at noon and the afternoon program. Each club leader presented her club group in a dress review and articles not worn were on exhibit.
A recreation program was directed by the senior girls, followed by a swimming party in the park plunge.
Harriet Simmons Tells Wedding Date
Shasta daisies, gladiolus and talisman roses decorated the home of Miss Harriet Simmons, 239 W. Brookdale, Fullerton, Sunday afternoon at a tea she gave to announce the date of September 4 for her approaching marriage to Cyrus Morris 'of La Habra and Phoenix. Miss Winifred Hawes assisted-Miss Simmons in serving.
Miss Simmons is well known in Anaheim where she is employed by the Bank of America. She is the daughter of Mrs. H. O. Simmons of Los Angeles.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sloop, former Anaheim residents now living at Balboa, are the proud parents of a baby son, born Monday, July 11, at Hollywood hospital.

Trip Enjoyed by Karl Hausers
A two weeks' vacation trip through northern Arizona and into the northern part of California was recently enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Karl Hauser of the Colonial apartments. They returned to their home last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Hauser first went to Prescott, Ariz., to witness the Northern Arizona rodeo. From there they drove to California and visited in several places in the vicinity of San Francisco before returning home.
Pemberton Pupils Present Recital
A public recital was given Monday evening by students of the Leah Pemberton studio at Melrose Abbey. The feature of the program was the finale, the sextet from the opera "Luella de Lammermoor", sung by Rosemary Roturn, Marguerite Hains, John Haines, William Georgeson, Theodore Franzle and Gordon Whalley.
Other pupils who participated in the program were Thomas Miller, Mary Lou Whalley, and Anna Claire Mauerhan. The program was arranged by Leah Pemberton.

Club Members are Luncheon Guests
A group of Anaheim and Fullerton young women, members of a sewing club that meets once a month, were luncheon guests of Mrs. Russell R. McComb, 738 N. Zeyn street, last Friday afternoon. Luncheon was served on the dining room table which featured a centerpiece of shasta daisies.
Following the luncheon the women spent the afternoon in individual sewing. Guests included Harold Ferguson of Anaheim, Mrs. Jack C. Harmony, Mrs. Harold C. West, Mrs. Richard C. Jewett and Mrs. William Jewett, all of Fullerton.

Governor's Day to Be Held July 30
Governor's day, the day dedicated to the commander-in-chief of the California National Guard, Governor Frank F. Merriam, this year will be Saturday, July 30, at the summer training camp of the state citizen military forces at San Luis Obispo, according to an announcement by Brigadier General Harry H. Morehead, the adjutant general of California.
Masons Have Picnic This Week at Brea
A large number of Anaheim Masons joined with other members of the order for the annual picnic of lodges in this area held Monday evening at Shell park, near Brea. Those in attendance report the picnic as the most successful of the several years it has been held.
Party Change Asked of Pension Seekers
Townsend club members in Orange, San Bernardino and River-side counties have been requested by Dr. F. E. Townsend to register with the Democratic party. July 21 is the last day on which changes in registration may be made.
The move is made with the determination to nominate Sheridan Downey in the primaries and thereby defeat William Gibbs McAdoo for United States senator, it is said.

Museum Visited by 10,000 During Year
Nearly 10,000 persons, registering from 32 different states, visited the Bowers Memorial museum in Santa Ana during the past year; it was reported by Mrs. F. E. Coulter, curator.
In addition, more than 1400 objects have been loaned to the museum and lectures have been given before 2362 students in 86 classes.
Installed capacity of the hydroelectric systems of the United States totals 10,000,000 horsepower.
Nearly 9,000,000 women in France earn their own living, with about 2,000,000 of them running their own farms.
Fly Casting Champ Honored by Group
Dick Miller, world champion fly caster from Huntington Beach, was (late last week) chosen second vice-president of the Western Association Scientific Angling club. The election was held during a convention in San Francisco. Huntington Beach was chosen as next year's convention city.
RADIOCAST
A radiocast program of Christian Science will be given over KFWB Sunday, July 17, from 4:30 to 5 o'clock. The broadcast will be conducted by Walter Emmerling, first reader of Fifteenth Church of Christ, Scientist, of Los Angeles, assisted by Mrs. Wytne Davis Hammond, soloist, and Miss Doris Maclean, pianist of the Medical School Four Years
The four years required Medical School study is divided approximately as follows:
1st Year—The future Doctor of Medicine must master the fundamental science of the human body; such as Embryology (development of human being); Physiology (study of all organs in health); Anatomy (study of body structure in health); Histology (microscopic study).
2nd Year—Intensified form of above studies. Beginnings of study of Pathology (effect of diseases on various organs); Diagnosis (comparison of diseased organ to healthy).
3rd Year—Under trained instructors and practicing physicians, the embryonic Doctor begins to meet patients, watching actual clinical practice, diagnosis and treatment, working from nine to twelve hours a day, six days a week for thirty-six weeks.
4th Year—Continuation of third year, constant training in medical school.
Scout Executive's Selection Delayed
Appointment of a field executive for Orange county Boy Scout organization will be delayed until after the national training school session in the east is completed, M. B. Wellington, prominent member of the scout council, said yesterday.
It is likely that the council will choose a graduate of the school. The courses offered at the educational institution are designed to specifically train young men in scout leadership. The school operates during August.
In Oldham, England, a large manufacturing town, chimneys deposited 960 tons of soot per square mile in one year.
