Music Project To Present Concert
The symphony orchestra and chorus, units of the federal music project, are to combine for a concert on June 23 at the Santa Ana high school auditorium.
The 60-piece orchestra will be heard in a performance of the celebrated Rimsky-Korsakoff fantasy, "Schcherazade" and Wagner's Vorspiel overture to the humorous opera, "Die Meistersingers." Leon Eckles will conduct the performance.
Directed by Dodley Page Harper, the 30 choristers are to present "The Singers," a Harvey Gaul setting of Longfellow's immortal poem. Another choral number is "He's Gone Away," a folk tune of the southern mountaineers in an effective choral transcription by Joseph Waddell Clokey.
From the choral literature of England comes Edward Elgar's "My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land," and an old sea chanty, "Just as the Tide was Flowing," by Vaughan Williams.
The concert is due to commence at 8:15 o'clock. Tickets at nominal prices are now on sale at the project office, 431 W. Third street, Santa Ana.

Combatting Fires by Air is Studied
Various technical aspects of experiments to control forest fires through the use of airplanes were publicly announced for the first time this week by Regional Forester S. B. Show of the U. S. Forest service offices in San Francisco.
During the past year experiments have been conducted with private airplanes contracted by the federal government for forest service work to determine the practicability of dropping water and chemicals on small fires to retard the spread of the fire until ground crews could reach the fire and suppress it.
As a companion project basic chemical research is being conducted by the Forest service in eastern United States to determine the most effective combination of chemicals to retard fire spread.
