Citrus Duster to be Demonstrated
Considerable improvement has been made in the mechanics and application of dust material for pest control purposes in citrus, according to Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg. The division of agricultural engineering and the division of entomology, University of California, have developed a new type of duster which will be brought to Orange county on Monday, June 6, for demonstration to local growers and operators.
The extension service, in cooperation with the agricultural commissioner's office, has arranged to have the dusting machine at the county insectary, Anaheim, at 1:30 o'clock, where the demonstration will be held and discussions presented on red spider and orange worm control. All growers and pest control crews are invited to attend the demonstration.

Santa Ana Mountain Trail Ban Effective
Trails and roads to high points in the Santa Ana mountains were closed yesterday; it was announced by Supervisor A.M. Longacre of the Cleveland National forest. The ban will be maintained throughout the fire hazard season.
Unusually long grass on the hills makes the danger of fire this year more pronounced. Longacre said.

"Cavalcade of America" has won many awards including one from the Women's National Radio Committee. Not a little of the credit for outstanding performances is due Don Voorhees, musical conductor. Howard Nordheim is Selected Principal
The principalship of Orange-thorpe school will be filled next year by Howard Nordheim, it was announced this week. Nordheim has been an instructor at Bradford school in Placentia. He succeeds Frederick T. Chamberlen who resigned to become superintendent of the Huntington Beach elementary schools.
Operated by a motor, a new type of switch for controlling lights and other electrical circuits, has been an test for three and a half years. Its mechanism has rocked back and forth, opening and closing its circuit once every second. By June the switch will have been operated 140,000,000 miles.
Nan Grey, above, star of the Monday night NEC drama, "Those We Love," hadn't had a vacation in three years until her recent flying trip to Houston, Texas, her home town. Returning to Hollywood by air, she commanded the plane's stewardess and persuaded her to play the other characters so Nan could make up for a rehearsal she missed.
Dr. William L. Stidger's noontime inspirational talks over a New England network attracted such a response from listeners that the sponsor has extended the network. Dr. Stidger, one of Boston's prominent clergymen, is now heard over the NBC-Blue network Mondays through Fridays.
Don Ross, above, "The Rhyming Minstrel," heard on a number of Mutual network stations, gets criticism from a music teacher...and has to pay attention to it. She happens to be his mother-in-law, Mrs. Frank Hetzler, who taught music at Christian College in Columbia, Mo. The two carry on quite a correspondence dealing with musical trends.
"For Men Only," NEC-Red network show, has probably brought more sport celebrities to its microphone than any similar series. Among the names on the program have Benny Leonard, Donald Budge, Joe DiMaggio, Glenn Cunningham, Bill Terry, Larry McPhail and like sport personalities.
Russ Morgan, above, bandleader on "Johnny Presents," will soon complete 75 consecutive weeks on the program. Inasmuch as the series is heard twice-weekly, the run is even more impressive. The reason for Morgan's continued popularity is that he will spend hours over a few bars of music to get the necessary effects which his arrangements call for.
Jack Fulton, romantic tenor of "Just Entertainment," over CBS, is one of the few network singers heard five times weekly. As a result, when he isn't on the air he is constantly rehearsing. His only relaxation is playing baseball.
Jeannine, above, lovely lassie who swings songs, guest stars on the Bottle Boys' Swing Club program over the NEC-Slue network. She is a radio veteran who has had a number of her own programs. But when people ask her what her last name is she stops them with phraseology used by an old time vaudeville star, "That's all there is... Jeannine... there isn't any more!"
