CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live." These promises of Jesus, from John, are the Golden Text in the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Lesson-Sermon includes these verses from the Psalms:
"The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes... Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults."
Among the passages from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, are the statements: "Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear—this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is proof of progress."

Kuchel Speaks
Thomas H. Kuchel, 75th district assemblyman, spoke briefly on problems facing voters of the state this fall. He warned against the various pension plan proposals which, he said, would be more of a burden than the state could stand. Kuchel also criticised the attempt to place upon the ballot an amendment to abolish the sales tax and replace it with a single tax. The assemblyman declared that the attempt to place upon the ballot an amendment to create a unicameral legislature for California apparently has failed.
The address of welcome was made by Mayor Charles H. Mann of Anaheim and was responded to by Dr. C. G. Huston. President Arthur introduced Leo J. Sheridan, F. A. Yungbluth and Charles A. Pearson, councilmen, City Clerk Charles E. Griffith and City Attorney George Holden who were especially invited guests. Councilman M. W. Martenet Jr., was unable to attend.
