In the work room of the Stroup-Barnes Furniture store may be found a bit of Anaheim and southern California history in the handwritings of many men and women, all of whom have at sometime or are at the present employed by the store.
We find a record of the date on which the store opened, at its present location back in 1922, a mention of the first radio installed, the first electric refrigerator, marriages and the arrival of babies, and new automobiles purchased by employees, new equipment for the store; the earthquakes, high waters, vacations of the management and employees, the coming of the NRA and the latest, the flood.
Near this panel of historical records is another panel on which is pasted picture postal cards sent to the store from the various employees vacationing or visiting all parts of the world. Among them are a few sent by boys who went to France to do their bit during the world war and many from other European countries sent back by those who have had occasion to visit outside countries and many from all parts of the United States and Mexico.
And according to Doc Barnes these are the two things in the store that are not being offered
Orange to Remain in Sewer District
The city of Orange will remain in the joint outfall sewer district, at least for the present; Anaheim city officials learned late last week upon reception of a resolution passed by the Orange city council.
Orange officials did not, however, indicate its plans after the joint outfall sewer lines have been repaired.
Fullerton Man to Face Charge Here
James L. Rawding, 49, of Fullerton is at liberty under bail of $100 pending his appearance in Anaheim city court next Wednesday morning to plea to a charge of driving while intoxicated.
The Fullerton resident was arrested early Wednesday morning following a near collision between his automobile and a police patrol car.
Guards on Stricken Area are Removed
The rigid guard maintained in the northern section of Anaheim was removed at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Men from El Toro CCC camp have been on duty continuously for the past week.
Protection is being retained in the stricken area at night, however, Chief of Police James S. Bouldin said. A California highway patrol car, with two men, are on duty each night from 8 o'clock until 4 o'clock.

Milk Price Changes Effective Tuesday
Amendments to milk marketing orders, effective Tuesday, decrease the amount paid producers by distributors in the Orange county marketing area, from 72 to 69 cents per pound milk fat, a reduction of three cents, according to the division of markets, state department of agriculture.
The price of class four milk will be increased by the amendments to 12 cents over the price paid in Los Angeles for 92 score butter so as to bring the price in more uniformity with prices paid for milk for manufacturing purposes.
Spring Sportfishing Starts at Newport
Spotfin croakers and yellowfish started spring run in Newport Balboa Bay the past week with several fine catches recorded below the Balboa pavilion and in the Upper Bay regions.
The fish are running from one to six pounds in weight. Many southern California anglers welcome this news, as the spotfin in addition to being a fine sport fish is also exceptionally good eating.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH
"Matter" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in a Christian Science Church branches of The Mother Church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. The Golden Text is from the Psalms: "Tremble thou earth, and the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob."

Among them are a few sent by boys who went to France to do their bit during the world war and many from other European countries sent back by those who have had occasion to visit outside countries and many from all parts of the United States and Mexico.
And according to Doe Barnes these are the two things in the store that are not being offered for sale during his big money saving event now going on.
Tom Allan, advertising manager at The S. Q. R. Store, is celebrating his 31st wedding anniversary at the same time his employers are celebrating the 31st year of the S. Q. R. Store.
The only catch to it is that the store's anniversary makes it necessary for Allan to write a lot of ads, cards and signs as well as trim the windows instead of taking a vacation in honor of his anniversary.
The S. Q. R. store starts its 31st anniversary sale this week and is featuring hundreds of bargains in quality merchandise.
In spite of the fact that old Mother Nature seems to have been picking on them, first with an earth quake which did considerable damage and recently with a flood which is costing in the neighborhood of $10,000, the H. C. Stevens company at 173 W. Center street, under the management of R. R. Stevens, has for the past ten years held an important place in the mercantile business of Anaheim.
The regular staff includes eight to ten employees and on special occasions that concern provides employment for as many as 25 persons. They specialize in quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and during the flood sale which is now going on many items are being sold for a small fraction of their cost although they are but slightly damaged.
"Russ" Stevens, as his friends call him, takes pride in seeing that all merchandise handled is of dependable quality and insists that all employees give the customer every possible assistance in selecting the desired merchandise and to give each and everyone courteous service.
L. P. (Lew) Howe, owner and day morning. Men from the El Toro CCC camp have been on duty continuously for the past week.
Protection is being retained in the stricken area at night, however, Chief of Police James S. Bouldin said. A California highway patrol car, with two men, are on duty each night from 8 o'clock until 4 o'clock.
Juvenile Held for Automobile Theft
A 17-year-old Mexican youth of Watts last week end was remanded to juvenile court by City Judge Frank Tausch to answer to a charge of theft of an automobile. The alleged theft occurred here last Wednesday.
The youth was arrested by Los Angeles officers and was returned to Anaheim Friday to answer to the charge.
BRAZIL AT FAIR
Planning to spend not less than $1,000,000 at the New York World's Fair 1939, Brazil has signed a contract for 48,000 square feet of exhibit space.
towards whipping the depressions because for every item sold another has to be made and employment creates new buyers—and so it goes.
It's all DONE with MIRRORS
First we make your hair healthy and lustrous, and then we give it a perfect wave. Now it's all set and the mirror says "How beautiful."
Hair should be beautiful, not only in a mirror or under a chic hat, but even flying in the breeze or rumpled on the pillow. So first we make your hair healthy and lustrous, so that it will stay put, and then we give it a perfect wave, natural and soft and becoming. Now it's all set, and the presence of the God of Jacob."
Among the Bible selections in the Lesson-Sermon are these verses from Revelation: "And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven. And swear to him that liveth for ever and ever who created heaven, and the things that there are, and the sea, and the thing which are therein, that they should be time no longer."
A correlative passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states: "Breaking away from the mutations of time and sense, you neither lose the solid objects and ends of life nor your own identity. Fixing your gaze on the realities supernal, you will rise to the spiritual consciousness of being, even as the bishops which has burst from the egg and preens its wings for a skyward flight."
Russ" Stevens, as his friends call him, takes pride in seeing that all merchandise handled is of dependable quality and insists that all employees give the customer every possible assistance in selecting the desired merchandise and to give each and everyone courteous service.
L. P. (Lew) Howe, owner and operator of the Brownbilt shoe store at 141 W. Center street, came to Anaheim about seven months ago from Topeka, Kansas, where he was in the shoe business for some 25 years. Lew is assisted by his son, Robert a student at the Fullerton junior college, and the two Howes appear to really know how to fit shoes. That ability together with the fact that the Brownbilts are unconditionally guaranteed both by the dealer and the manufacturer has been responsible for the constant increase in the number of customers.
Howe is taking an active part in community affairs and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Merchants association and the Lions club and can usually be found among those present at the meetings, ready to do anything possible for the good of the community.
The business that hides its light under a bushel does itself a great injustice, deprives the public of a service and retards the progress of business in general.
Newspaper advertising is the way to keep the public informed as to what is going on in the mercantile world and make buyers out of many who haven't thought of it yet. The merchant who creates buyers does much
