"DOUBLE DOOR" IS SUCCESSFUL Senior Class Play Receives Plaudits of Audience Wednesday Night By Russell McComb Anaheim union high school senior class last Wednesday evening established a precedent which will be hard for succeeding classes to equal when they presented Elizabeth McFadden's "Double Door" as the first class play to be given in the new high school auditorium. The new auditorium was the scene of an outstanding performance. To maintain the standard other productions there will have to be of high calibre. Miss Margaret Gauer was excellent as Victoria Van Bret, a tyrannical 55-year-old spinster. From her earliest lines to the final scene she captivated the near-capacity audience with her splendid portrayal of a difficult character role. Miss Gauer's work was as excellent as any this writer has ever seen given by a high school actress. Outstanding as Miss Gauer's acting was, it did not greatly overshadow the performances of Florinne Spaenhower, Peggy Lou Berthaumm and Danny Marshall in the chief supporting roles. Miss Spaenhower played Ann Darrow, who at the start of the play became the bride of Rip Van Bret, Miss Berthaumm enacted Caroline Van Bret, sister of Victoria, and Marshall portrayed Rip Van Bret, 25-year old half-brother of Victoria and Caroline. All three carried their parts smoothly and with conviction, and when called upon to give an especially dramatic scene were more than equal to the occasion. Burl Grow, as Mr. Neff, Robert Quast as Dr. John Sully, George Non-Resident Auto Owners Given Help Owners of out-of-state cars, who plan to get license plates in California, may have their cars and papers inspected at any branch office of the division of registration prior to the annual renewal, which begins January 2. Mrs. Faye Kern Schulz, dramatic coach, directed the performance and is to be congratulated for her ability to obtain from high school students such a worthy performance of an exceedingly difficult play.
