American Industry Congress
Defines Attitude of Business
NEW YORK—The attitude of business toward the economic and social problems of the moment is expected to be defined in the new "Platform of Industry" which will be adopted at the annual gathering of the nation's business leaders here in the "Congress of American Industry" December 9 and 10.
The congress, which is held each year in conjunction with the annual convention of the National Association of Manufacturers, will study such subjects as agricultural-industrial cooperation; employment relations; government competition; government finance; government relation to industry; social security; tariff, etc.
In issuing the invitations for the gathering, C. M. Chester, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, said:
"The problems of the past year have been those of reemployment and recovery from depression. Re-employment is now advancing rapidly and depression problems will, we hope, soon be completely overcome. We then face the task of wiping out the ravages of the depression period so that America can push forward to an even brighter future and a fuller life for every individual. To this goal which can and must be brought about in the American way, through cooperation and understanding, industry now dedicates its every effort.
"Out of this congress, representative of all divisions and geographical segments of manufacturing, will come a constructive program aimed at reconstruction of the nation."
