FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST SCIENTIST (Christian Science) 125 North Philadelphia Field Day Is Planned Soon Arrangements are going forward toward holding a sugar beet and bean growers field day in the near future, with the view of noting the response of plants in plots where varying amounts and kinds of fertilizer have been applied, it is reported. The tentative date for this field day is Friday, July 17, but final confirmation is being held up pending word from the University as to the availability of certain men on that date. Control Meetings Called for July 17 Two county-wide growers meetings are announced to consider recommendations for this summer's pest control program against scale insects and weeds in the orchard. The two meetings are scheduled for Thursday, July 17; at Santa Ana and Anaheim. They will both be outdoor meetings; the Santa Ana meeting will be held at Fisher Park on North Flower street, at Santiago Creek, at 9:30 A.M. The growers conference at Anaheim is scheduled at 2:00 P.M.; in the outdoor Greek Theatre in the Anaheim Park. The meetings have been arranged by the Agricultural Extension Service in cooperation with the Agricultural Commissioner's office, to give Orange County growers a special opportunity to get the latest information on the pest control and weed control recommendations for this season in Orange County. OBSEED MILLING AROUND An old friend of the republican nominee says if all the librarians vote for F., would come to their senses; vote for Alf he would be elated in a walk. On the other hand, man in high command in Bourbon sector says the G.'s candidate is synthetic and weakest one ever put up. IN THE BAG What this country should do to put on a protective tariff farmer and home producer will then take care of himself. All those silly sideshows and deals could be thrown into ash can. And if they ever chanced the constitution they shut down the number of congregants at least one-half. NO GAS, THANK YOU! FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST SCIENTIST (Christian Science) 125 North Philadelphia Semi-Annual Communion Services will be conducted on Sunday in all branches of The Mother hurch, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. "Sacrament" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon, and the Golden Text is from Hebrews: "To do good and to communicate forget not; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased." A Scriptural selection in the Lesson-Sermon includes these passages from John: "And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multude of fishes... As soon then as they came to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread... Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord." One of the passages from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states: "This spiritual meeting with our Lord in the dawn of a new light is the morning meal which Christian Scientists commemorate. They bow before Christ, Truth, to receive more of his reappearing and silently to commune with the divine Principle Love." BUENA PARK, July 9—Sponsored by the junior chamber of commerce, the fourth annual booster celebration and industrial parade will be held August 29 and 30. Plans for the event include a barbecue, street dance, carnival, selection of a queen of the celebration, and play day for children of the community sponsored by the Kiwanis club. Other organizations of the community will also be asked to assist with the celebration. A committee will be appointed at an early date to contact business men at 2:00 P.M., in the outdoor Greek Theatre in the Anaheim Park. The meetings have been arranged by the Agricultural Extension Service in cooperation with the Agricultural Commissioner's office, to give Orange County growers a special opportunity to get the latest information on the pest control and weed control recommendations for this season in Orange County. The pest control program involves a cost of some two million dollars a year in Orange County, according to Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg. Every effort is being made by the Agricultural Commissioner and the ExperimentStation to improve the efficiency of control methods, which is measured not entirely by the cost per acre, but in better quality of fruit and yields, which in turn reflects better returns. All growers are urged to attend one of the two meetings in order that they might obtain unbiased information on this season's spray D.W.Tubbs, Agricultural Comer fumigation program. missioner, will discuss the present scale situation in citrus orchards and give control recommendations based on the extensive observations of the County office. Harry Smith, entomologist, Citrus Experiment Station, will present a report on biological control of insect pests and Bert Johnson, Deputy Agricultural Commissioner, will recommend best methods of controlling morning glory and other weeds in the orchard. While the missile did not make a hole as deep as a well or as wide as a barn door, yet and still it's a safe bet many conservative and dyed in the wool Bourbons will vote for the G. O. Attorney Leslie F. Kimmell, secretary of the Orange County Coast League Association will speak on and hold a discussion of the Craig bill. This bill has been declared unconstitutional, stopped all pursuing. All candidates for public office have been asked to attend the meeting to hear the discussion, and all have stated they will be there. A luncheon will follow the meeting which is not a dinner meeting. SWEETEN THE KITTY Campaigns are funny things. It takes mazuma to run them. Sometimes every guy on a payroll gets a nudge to kick in or take a walk. OCH, OH! A member of the investigating committee asked the founder of the old age pension plan how much has been collected. THROW OUT THE LIFE LINE A congressman who says he wouldn't take the office of President, presented on a golden platter, also says he stands for a pension for the aged, about $50 or $60 a month, or more if possible.
