Mrs. E. P. Fergus Re-Nominated Head W.C.C.W. Study Club
Meeting at the home of Mrs. Oscar Heying on North Lemon Street Monday evening the National Council of Catholic Women Study club, with the report of the nominating committee, elected Mrs. E. P. Fergus president, with Mrs. Roy Harrington as Leader and Mrs. N. J. Stehly as secretary, to serve for the following term on the nominating committee were Mrs. Ernest Ganahl, chairman, and Mrs. J. E. Schumacher.
During the study period Miss Nell Robertson gave a report on chapter 9 taken from the "13th Century" by James Walsh. Mrs. V. E. Schumacker gave a splendid review of "The Last Puritan" by George Santa Yana. Current events taken from the "Catholic Action," were given by Miss Marcella Weber.
Bringing the enjoyable evening to a close the hostess and her assistants served delicious refreshments.
Recent Bride Hostess to Group Anaheim Friends
Mrs. Theodore Thorton, who was Miss Marie Bennett prior to her marriage on April 4th, was Mothers Honored At B.P. & W. Club Dinner Meeting
With the new president, Miss Ruth Williams, presiding, the Business and Professional Women's club, at the regular dinner meeting in the Marigold Cafe, Thursday evening, paid tribute to the mothers of the members, who were honored guests for the evening. Aside from arranging the beautiful table bouquets of snapdragon, carnation and fern combination, individual rose corsages were presented to each guest by Mrs. Sara Faye Pearson and Miss Grace Black on the floral committee.
Mrs. Myrtle Henry, program chairman, introduced Mrs. Olive Lee Shoemaker who presented several of her pupils in vocal and dance numbers. Little Miss Anita Schulz opened the program singing "Early Bird" and "Sitting High On a Hill Top." The Sims Sisters, Misses Virginia, Lorraine and Betty Jean, sang two trio numbers, "In My Solitude" and "One More Perfect Day," and Miss Virginia played as a piano solo medley of popular songs. As a special Mother's Day" feature Mrs. Shoemaker gave an interesting life sketch of James McNeil Whistler whose outstanding painting "My Mother" is now in the Luxhelmberg Salon. Miss Wilhelmina Schulz brought the program to a close with an interpretive dance number "The Mexican Hat"
St. Michael’s Parish To Celebrate Anniversary Date
The sixty-second anniversary of the founding of St. Michael's Episcopal Church will be celebrated next Sunday at the 10:30 A.M. services. In the year 1873 Miss Susan La Faucherie started a Sunday school and out of this group, a year later, came St. Michael's Parish, receiving its charter from Bishop Kip of San Francisco. Reverend D. Howard Dow will retell the story Sunday morning, and invites all interested to attend.
On Wednesday evening at 7:45 o'clock the annual parish party will be held with visiting clergy and laity from near by parishes. Two special guests who will be on the program are Reverend H. Scott Rubel, clergyman, author and radio engineer; and Hal Raynor, composer and Hollywood director who will show some of the interesting points of making moving pictures as well as sing several solos. Mr. Raynor is also well known as the author of the script and director for Joe Penner and his duck, "Goo Goo."
Reverend Dow extends an invitation to all friends of the Parish to attend both events.

Recent Bride Hostess to Group Anaheim Friends
Mrs. Theodore Thorton, who was Miss Marie Bennett prior to her marriage on April 4th, was hostess to the Monday evening contract group at her home on North Normandy in Los Angeles Tuesday evening.
Fragrance of bowls of carnations which decorated the table permeated the room as the guests heartily enjoyed the tasty dinner served by their hostess. The evening hours spent in social activity seemed to pass all too quickly, as the late hours approached and it was time for the guests to depart. Making the journey were Mrs. Paul Winsor, Miss Grace Black, Miss Dorothy Cromer, Miss Charlotte Smith, Miss Leona Lehmer, Miss Myrtilla Wallace, and Miss Priscilla Adams.
The members introduced their mothers and other guests of the evening, among them being Mrs. Ella Abbot, Mrs. Stella Hapgood, Mrs. Winifred Belle, Mrs. Jenny Tulene, Mrs. F. Fowler, Mrs. J. N. Davis, Mrs. Chevalier, Mrs. C. J. Black, Mrs. Charles Faye, Mrs. Dora Pearson, Mrs. Myrtle E. Canby, Mrs. M. C. Henry, and Mrs. Ann Kroeger.
Reverend H. G. Schmelzer, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, as speaker of the evening, paid high tribute to the mothers of all generations, telling of the great influence mothers have upon lives of men, mentioning particularly George Washington and other

Israel's Parish Debate Secretary Date

New Term Officers Installed for St. Boniface P.-T. A.
Reverend Father Henry of Loyola college in Los Angeles and Sister Mary Loretta of the Marywood high school were special guests of the St. Boniface Parent-Teacher association when the new officers were installed at the regular meeting in the Parish Hall Friday afternoon. Reverend Father O'Carroll as installing officer inducted into the office of president for the coming term Mrs. J. E. Schumacher. Mrs. R. E. Heeter will serve as vice president; Mrs. Elmer Bruce, recording secretary; Mrs. Henry DuBois, financial secretary; Mrs. Frank Braddock, treasurer; Mrs. N. J. Stehly, auditor; Mrs. J. Kirsch, parliamentarian; and Mrs. J. Mertz, historian.
Appointive officers for the new term are Mrs. DuBois and Mrs. J. Allec, membership; Mrs. E. H. Ganahl, and Mrs. O. W. Heying, ways and means; Mr. J. W. Truxaw and Mrs. Glenn Stilwell, health; Mrs. M. P. Thaxton and Mrs. James Heffron, publicity. Other committee chairmen will be appointed at a latter date.
Mrs. Ganahl as retiring president received a past-president's pin with Mrs. William LeVecke representing the members of the organization. Both the incoming and the retiring presidents were presented with lovely corsage bouquets of roses and sweetness.
Art Association Meets at Irvine Home
The lovely San Joaquin ranch home of Mrs. James Irvine of Santa Ana, was a most appropriate setting for a gathering of both old and new friends of the Laguna Beach Art Association Monday afternoon, when a membership drive was launched in the form of a bridge-tea.
Mrs. Irvine received more than eighty guests interested in bringing the association to a substantial and united formation. Most of the guests entered into the game of contract at the tables set in the spacious living rooms and on the veranda. At the tea hour the guests were invited to the dining room where Mrs. Joan Swan and Mrs. M. L. Childberg presided at the tea and coffee services. As another illustration of Mrs. Irvine's artistic accomplishments, the table centerpiece was a novel appointment of a luster fish on blue glass plaque in gorgeous arrangement of flowers.
Each guest at the affair, through her patronage, became a member of the Laguna Beach Art association, which carries with it several outstanding advantages. Among these being the privilege of attending the regular monthly lectures given at the Laguna Art Gallery. Furthermore, they are entitled upon the presentation of their membership card, to admission to all the exhibits during the coming year.

Mrs. W. C. Gathas New Leader Ebell Garden Section
Combining business and picture, members of the Garden Society of the Anaheim Ebell club held a pot-luck picnic lunch at the city park Monday afternoon. The principal item of business consisted of the election of a leader and assistant leader for ensuing term, with Mrs. Willi Gathis and Mrs. F. W. Elliott lected for the positions. On nominating committee were Mt George Chambers, chariman, Mt Mrs. C.T.Tompkins and Mrs.J.Baker.
The tables had been spread with white cloths, with bowls coreopsis and primroses giving real colorful and garden-like appearance. About sixty members and guests were present to take of the many dishes of delicious picnic delicacies.
Mrs. John P. Brastad explains some of the intricate steps seed propagation of the delicorchid, and had several on display particularly beautiful and unusual bloom, with the botanical name of ondontoglossum. That a Brazilian spray orchid and raised from seed by Dr. Brastad in his own conservatory wih houses about 1500 plants.Anteresting fact brought out by Mr Brastad is that the young plant are first grown in a formula station, from whence they are truplanted.The growing of orchid from seed is a hobby of Mr Brastad, which has won many honors for himself and Mr Brastad.

Sister Mary Loretta also spoke to the members of the class and organization, telling of the importance of Catholic education and outlining the courses of study at the Marywood school. She extended a cordial welcome to those of the graduating class who will attend Marywood high school next fall.
During the business session Mrs. Ganahl announced the Diocesian convention of National Council of Catholic Women to be held at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on May 15 and 16. All members of the association as well as regularly elected delegates are invited to attend this convention.
The multiple bridge-tea scheduled for May 27 was further discussed and hostesses appointed. Mrs. Heying, Mrs. Truxaw and Mrs. Elmer Bruce will entertain at the Heying home; Mrs. LeVecke and Mrs. P. E. Fluor at the home of Mrs. Fluor; Mrs. Stilwell, Mrs. J. Kursch and Mrs. Ed Stoffell and Mrs. J. E. Schumacher at the latter's home, while Mrs. Alice Collins at her home will be assisted by Mrs. O. Neal and Mrs. Heeter. At the close of the bridge games Mrs. Ganahl will serve tea. Those wishing to attend at either of the homes may make their reservations with Mrs. Schumacher, phone 3608.
At the close of the afternoon meeting the sixth grade mothers served tea and refreshments. Mrs. Heying and Mrs. LeVecke were program chairmen for the day.

Two Ebell Study Sections Next Week
Regular meeting of the Ebell Breakfast club which was postponed from the 13th, will be held at the home of Mrs. Eva Boyd on South Olive street next Wednesday morning, May 20th.
Mrs. Boyd, Section leader, has planned a special program for the morning, with breakfast being served at 9 o'clock. A request is made that everyone planning on attending make their reservation as early as possible.
The Bible Study Section, under the direction of Mrs. H. A. Johnston, will meet in the club rooms of the K. P. hall at 2:00 P. M. next Monday, May 18th.
Sorbrity Honors Miss K. McCullah
Miss Katherine McCullah, talented daughter of Mrs. Kate E. McCullah, and a student at Occidental college was recently formally installed as corresponding secretary of Sigma Alpha Iota, national honorary music organization.
On May 11 the organization will present a program, featuring Allan Watson, baritone.

Mother Visits Polhemus Family
Mrs. Emma M. Polhemus of Southgate spent several days in town the past week visiting relatives and friends. While here she was the guest of her son, Dean Polhemus and family, who are also entertaining their daughter, Mrs. C. B. Cotton and four-month's old son of San Diego.
