Anaheim, Calif., Jan. 30, 1936 February Busy Farmer Month In Orange County February, usually a quiet month on the farm, will be a busy one in educational activities for various farm groups. The Agricultural Extension Service announces institutes for growers of citrus, walnuts, avocados, beans, beets, truck crops and beekeepers. The following schedule of meetings and dates has been arranged by the Farm Advisor's office in cooperation with the various crop groups and commodity departments. Feb. 13 and 14—Citrus Management School, Orange High School. Feb. 15—Southern California Walnut Growers Institute, at California Walnut Growers new warehouse, Los Angeles. Feb. 15—Annual Meeting Orange County Beekeepers Department, Farm Bureau Hall, Santa Ana. Feb. 18—Truck Crop and Vegetable Growers Institute, Farm Bureau Hall, Santa Ana. Feb. 22—Bean and Beet Growers Institute, City Hall, Council Rooms, Santa Ana. March 13—Avocado Growers Institute, Washington School, La Habra. El Rodeo Club Elects Officers The El Rodeo Club of Placentia met in the clubhouse at Placentia last Thursday night at which EXPO BEACON WELCOMES WORLD When the California Pacific International Exposition re-opens February 12th, a giant tri-lamp searchlight, visible 75 miles at sea, will make its debut atop the California Tower, shown above. Y. M. C. A. Group Meets Whittier A group of the Y. M. C. A. officials of the northern end of the county gathered for a meeting and dinner last Friday night. The meeting was held in the East Whittier Friends Church with William Wickett, chairman; Harry S. Horn, Buena Park, vice chairman; Ross N. Hodson, La Habra, secretary; Angus McAulay, Fullerton, treasurer; and Paul Thornton, La Habra; George Greer, Orange-thorpe, W. D. Shaffer and S. L. Burgess, Brea; George Meiser and Don Pierotti, Placentia; Fred John- El Rodeo Club Elects Officers The El Rodeo Club of Placentia met in the clubhouse at Placentia last Thursday night at which election of officers was held. Dr. E. Crosby of Bell will serve as president, Louis Jacobsen of Placentia as vice president, and Miss Bernice Wahl was retained as secretary. Others elected on the board are G. H. Chesley of Long Beach, formerly of Fullerton; W. H. Jones of Huntington Beach; John Wagner of Placentia; Merle Little of Monrovia, B. A. Gagnall of Placentia and W. G. Gordon of Anaheim. Y. M. C. A. Setup The county grand jury may recommend a new setup for the county which will include the consolidation of certain county offices. It is reported this will involve the recorder's office. The report which is being prepared and is highly critical of existing conditions. Appointment of County Surveyor W. K. Hilyard as county auditor will be urged by the grand jury, it is said, that body apparently having in mind the prospect that its indictment of Recorder Justine Whitney, and the ouster accusation also brought against her will result in her removal. While the recorder's and surveyor's offices cannot be merged by law, there would be no bar against Hilyard holding both offices, it is pointed out. The grand jury will stress the fact that the surveyor is, by virtue of his office, already a deputy recorder.
