Informal Tea Held At Newkirk Home
About three years ago Mrs. H. D. Newkirk and her daughter, Sally, held "Open House" for their friends for an afternoon of the Christmas week. It was such an enjoyable time that it is becoming a custom, and last Saturday again found their many friends dropping in for an informal gathering, and exchanging pleasantries with those who have been away from Anaheim, and are spending the holidays with their relatives and friends here.
Miss Helen Houck and Miss Jane Demming assisted the hostesses while Mrs. Lee Demning and Mrs. Victoria Burnham poured the tea, which was served with delicious dainty cakes.
Family Gathers For Dinner In Brea
Mr. and Mrs. Zeppenfeld and daughters, Esther and Marian, of East Cypress Street, Anaheim, joined others of the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Grewco in Brea for a five o'clock Christmas dinner.

Hapgoods Have Christmas Gathering
Christmas spirit reigned supreme at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene P. Hapgood at their home on North Philadelphia street when Christmas was celebrated with a lovely dinner, followed by the exchanging of gifts from the beautifully lighted tree, and the family singing of Christmas carols.
Included in the homey affair were Miss Grace Bailey, Mrs. Stella Hapgood, Ledyard Bailey, Mrs. Winifred Bell, Paul Winsor, and the Misses Charlotte and Winifred Hapgood.
Mrs. McCullah Is Family Hostess

Popular Anaheim Couple Wed
A pre-Christmas holiday wedding was solemnized with a beautiful and simple ceremony when Miss Shirley Bernice Criss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Criss of South Vine street, became the bride of Louis Bremer, son of Henry Bremer also of Anaheim, at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Erwin of Long Beach. Reverend R. M. Merrill of the First Methodist church of Long Beach read the ceremony, with a background setting of ferns, holly, mistletoe and poinsettias.
As a prelude to the wedding march Miss Wilma Watt of Anaheim played a group of piano selections. A corsage of gardenias emphasized the simple grace of the deep red gown of high neck and long sleeve design that Miss Criss had selected for her wedding. Silver slippers and accessories completed her ensemble. Her only attendant was her sister, Marjorie Jean Criss, wearing a dainty frock of yellow crepe and carrying a basket of poinsettias. John Nylan attended the bridegroom as best man.

When dinner had been completed and all were gathered about the tree good old St. Nicholas made his appearance and distributed gifts to each and all present.

Assisting the hostess were Mrs. Ralph Erwin of Brea, cousin of the bride, and Miss margaret M. Barton of Utah.
For the reception Mrs. Erwin wore a black satin gown with a gardenia corsage. Mrs. Criss had chosen blue velvet, and the bridegroom's mother, Mrs. L. Paige of Arizona, a gown of green silk.

Marriage Announcement Is Surprise
While friends and relatives assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Yöder on Harbor road recently expected to hear the announcement of the marriage of Miss Geraldine Yoder to Knox Crow to take place this January they were greatly surprised to learn that the young couple had been harboring a secret since August 12th last, when they had been quietly married at Riverside.
The table set for the serving of a turkey dinner was richly appointed in the holiday motif, adding further beauty to the home which was enhanced by the lighted and bounteously laden tree beside the open fireplace. It was during the after-dinner hour that the couple revealed their secret, leaving shortly thereafter for a belated honeymoon trip to the northern part of the state.
The bride is a graduate of the Anaheim High School with the class of 1935, and has since continued her studies of dramatic art under Mrs. Daphne Gross Hellerman.
Mr. Crow is also well known here, coming to Anaheim from Texas a few years ago and attending both Fullerton and Santa Ana Junior Colleges. He is now employed with the Pacific Freight
College Romance Culminates In Wedding
In a beautiful home wedding held at the home of the bride on Christmas day, Francis Bushard, son of Mrs. Louis Bushard of this city, was united in marriage with Miss Hazel Redfield, lovely daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fréd Redfield, of Los Angeles. The ceremonies were private, the immediate families of the popular couple alone being present.
The bride is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she was chosen, in her senior year, as a Helen of Troy, an honor given to the six outstanding women in each year's graduating class. Her social sorority was Kappa Alpha Theta, and scholastically, she was honored with membership in Phi Beta Kappa. At present she is principal of one of the grammar schools in Corona.
The groom is well known in this city where he was born and raised. At the University of Southern California, he was the acknowledged leader of his class, and was as a senior president of the associated student body of the various schools and colleges in the Trojan university. He was presented with the Trojan Diamond medal at graduation time, in recognition of his scholastic and executive achievement. In his

The Lakewood Country Club was the scene for the family Christmas dinner including Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Yungbluth, Dorothy and Edward.
The luscious dinner was served to fifteen members of the family including, besides the Yungbluths, Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Strodthoff of Alamitos Bay, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Strodthoff and family and Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Rhodes from Los Angeles, and H. E. Strodthoff of Anaheim.
After the dinner the family drove to the home of G. J. Strodthoff, who is a brother of Mrs. Yungbluth, to spend an evening greeting their many friends who dropped in.
Engagement Announced At Dinner
As the family of Mr. and Mrs. Frank N. Gibbs of East Center street were seated at the table Christmas dinner, the presence of dainty white place corsages announced the engagement of Miss Ellen Gibbs and Rev. Archie R. Crouch of Morrow Bay. The wedding date has not been definitely set, Miss Gibbs stating that it will be "some time in 1936."
Having received her bachelor of arts degree from Occidental college following her graduation from Anaheim High School, Miss Gibbs has been teaching in the Corona Junior High School. Reverend part of the state.

Alfred Cookman To Speak Ebell Club Monday Afternoon
Mrs. Leo J. Friis, president of the Anaheim Ebell Club, urges all members to attend their first meeting after the holidays next Monday afternoon, as it promises to be one of the most entertaining of the year. The featured speaker on the program will be Alfred Cookman, a lecturer of note. However, Mr. Cookman plans to give a dramatic and educational presentation of the natural life of the birds in place of a lecture. Mrs. L. Earle Phillips, program chairman promises a program of varied entertainment.
The luncheon program, under the supervision of Mrs. Earl Spencer and Mrs. H. W. Saulsbury, will be carried out in the garden motif. Mrs. J. G. Hilleary and Mrs. Arthur A. Kemper are co-chairmen for the luncheon.
On the luncheon program, Terry Stephenson, president of the Orange County Historical society will talk on wild game in early Orange County, bringing with him humorous and historical tales of the animals that lived in this section many years ago.

Parents of Anahe Boys Celebrate Golden Wedding
To Mr. and Mrs., Roy were extended special conitions during this Christmas they observed their fiftieth anniversary at their H Olinda.
Married in Ohio in 1884 came to Olinda in 1911 and made their home there since have five children living, O Dewey Vanatta of Anahein ter and Marion Vanatta an Zola Hallan of Coaling grand-children, Zola Mr Billy Vanatta of Anahein Charlie, Betty and Gray L atta of Coalinga, an done grandchild, Dona May Avenal, California, make rest of the happy family.

Fidelis Club Held at Hein Home
Meeting at the home of L. Hein on Brookhurst roday, the ladies of the Fidelis Club

The members of the family to enjoy the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs were Oscar, Misses Ellen and Carolyn Gibbs, Archie Crouch and Miss Ella Goodhue, Los Angeles, aunt of Mrs. Gibbs.
Dr. Waltz Home Scene of Family Reunion
Dr. Ralph M. Waltz received one of his most hoped-for Christmas gifts when his mother, Mrs. J. M. Waltz and his sister Miss Myrtle Waltz of Durand, Michigan, arrived to spend the holidays with the Doctor Waltz family.
Their visit is the more enjoyable as it is Mrs. Waltz' first trip to California, and much time is spent in visiting the many historic, scenic and other interesting places of Southern California.
With all the immediate members of Doctor Waltz' family home for the occasion a truly happy time was spent on Christmas day, with the exchanging of gifts and the partaking of a Christmas dinner.
Historical Society Plans Meet
Tomorrow evening, Friday, January 3rd, the Orange County Historical Society will meet for the first time of the new year at their regular meeting place, Bowers Memorial Museum at 2010 North Main Street in Santa Ana, at 7:30 P.M.
The business hour will be taken up with the election of directors.
The social discussion period will feature "The Grange In Early Days," by Miss Wing, and "Rancho Santiago De Santa Ana" by C. E. Roberts. Both topics are of great interest to residents of Orange County, an dto those who can attend is promised an evening historical value.
Flower Mission Entertained By Mrs. Harry Pearson
For their first meeting of the new year the members of the Flower Mission of the Presbyterian church convened at the home of Mrs. Harry Pearson on North Lemon Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. A. P. LeTourneau presided at the business meeting which preceded the program which was under the direction of Mrs. Paige Vincent and Mrs. Earl E. Spencer. The numbers on their program were suggestive of the New Year.
Assisting the hostess were Mrs. Conrad Jongewaard, Mrs. Charles Harbeson, and Mrs. William P. Webb.
Work Progressing Buena Legion
Construction work on the new American Legion Hall at Buena Park has practically completed and anticipated that the entire structure will be finished at an early date.
The floor plan of the building of Spanish architecture, in a lounge, auditorium, lodge rest rooms, kitchen, and an apartment line, which runs twoteen stanton avenues and time the honored couple wishes from their family and host of friends as well.
Fidelis Club Held at Hein Home
Meeting at the home of L. Hein on Brookhurst road day, the ladies of the Fidelis of the White Temple Meadow held an all-day session business, combined with a Christmas party.
The home was beautiful pointed with the holiday greens and poinsettias as Mrs. Bossemman, Mrs. O. K. S., and Mrs. Laura Gregg assist hostess in serving the luncheon preceding the afternoon prologue.
Mrs. Steward presided short business meeting, with Perry Mathis leading the national hour. On the program Jessie Brooks, assisted by Viola Jackson gave a read aloud by the singing of Chipmunk songs, with Mrs. A. C. Ruiz the piano, and concluded with exchanging of gifts about this event.

Activties of the Churches
Harmony Circle Elects Officers For New Year
Last Friday evening at the regular meeting of Harmony Circle of the Grace Lutheran Ladies' Aid society in the church parlors, Mrs. H. W. Baxter was given the responsibility of president for the ensuing year. To serve with her are Mrs. Henry Schimming, secretary, Miss Doris Rasmussen, treasurer; and Mrs. B. E. Baumbach, press reporter.
A pleasant hour of sociability, with the game of "flea" as the diversion followed the business meeting. Four tables were in play with Miss Rasmussen winning the prize.
Mrs. Baumbach and her committee had arranged seasonal decorations of the beautiful pointsettias, combined with berries and red tapers, and later served tea, with Mrs. Albert Heinze pouring.
Sam Hunziker Spends Holiday In Ohio
While their son Samuel, a university student at Columbus, Ohio, was spending Christmas with his aunt at Lima, Ohio, accompanied by Harold Martens a fellow student also of Anaheim, the holiday season was spent in quiet reverence.
Church of Christ Plans Bible Service
This Sunday night at 7:30 at the Church of Christ, Broadway and Helena, a special service will honor the teaching staff of the Church School. The whole staff of the School will sit in a body and be presented to the congregation. As a part of the inspiring song service that opens the evening service certain members of the Bible School will briefly tell what it means to have the privilege of teaching and of being taught in Church School.
A free gift will be given each family present in the form of a beautiful Church Calendar. These calendars are especially valuable in that they carry the complete list of subjects and scripture for the whole year of study. As a feature of the DeLuxe Calendars, famous pictures by such artists as Hoffmann, Stemler, and Schnorr are included in a way so as to illustrate the study of the month.
Again the Christian Endeavor Churches, a trained singing chorus, will lead the congregational singing in what is proving to be a popular part of the service, the "Singspiration." After the special message in song an illustrated sermon will be brought by the minister, M. C. Schollenberger that will give a preview of the whole Bible study for the year 1936. In

To Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vanatta are extended special congratulations during this Christmas, when they observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home in Brea.
Married in Ohio in 1885, they came to Olinda in 1911 and have made their home there since. They five children living, Carl and Way Vanatta of Anaheim, Walden and Marion Vanatta and Mrs. Sia Hallan of Coalinga. Six and children, Zola May and Mary Vanatta of Anaheim, May, Charlie, Betty and Gray Le Vanna of Coalinga, an done great-and-child, Dona May Dill of Penal, California, make up the rest of the happy family.
All were present at the golden wedding anniversary dinner on Christmas day, as well as other fests, which included Charlie on Orsdall of Olinda, brother of Ms. Vanatta; Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Von of Garden Grove, Mrs. Von is a sister of Mrs. Vanatta; and Mrs. Marion Van Orsdall of Alberta, Canada, Mr. Ordsdall being a cousin.
An occasion for a truly happy one the honored couple received congratulations and best wishes from their family and their best of friends as well.

Sam Hunziker Spends Holiday In Ohio
While their son Samuel, a university student at Columbus, Ohio, was spending Christmas with his aunt at Lima, Ohio, accompanied by Harold Martens a fellow student also of Anaheim, the holiday season was spent in quiet reverence at the H. S. Hunziker home on South Palm.
Following the Christmas dinner Miss Elizabeth Hunziker left for Asilomar, near Monterey, where she will represent the Y.W.C.A. of Fullerton at their winter week conference.

The prize membership contest dinner to be given for I. D. Jaynes and his winning team, originally slated for tomorrow evening has been changed to January 17. Fred Dukes, captain; and members of the losing group will be hosts.

Hein Home
Meeting at the home of Mrs. E. Hein on Brookhurst road Friday, the ladies of the Fidelis class in the White Temple Methodist church held an all-day session of business, combined with a post-Christmas party.
The home was beautifully appointed with the holiday berries, pens and poinsettias as Mrs. H. Serman, Mrs. O. K. Steward and Mrs. Laura Gregg assisted the staff in serving the luncheon preceding the afternoon program.
Mrs. Steward presided at the art business meeting, with Mrs. Mary Mathis leading the devotional hour. On the program Miss Jesie Brooks, assisted by Missola Jackson gave a reading of Christmas story, which was followed by the singing of Christmas songs, with Mrs. A. C. Riutcel at piano, and concluded with the changing of gifts about the tree.

Buena Legion Hall
Construction work on the roof of new American Legion Memorial hall at Buena Park has been meticulously completed and it is anticipated that the entire structure will be finished at an early date.
The floor plan of the building, Spanish architecture, includes lunge, auditorium, lodge rooms, rooms, kitchen, and an office property line, which runs between stanton avenue and Los Angeles.
