"A reader of the (Placentia) Courier is visibly impressed with his latest diagnosis of the nation's financial condition, and desires publication of this table for the general information of the public. Here it is: Population of United States reported as 124,000,000 Those eligible for Old Age Pension under Townsend Bill 30,000,000 That leaves 94,000,000 Persons working for Federal, State, County and City Governments 20,000,000 That leaves 74,000,000 Those ineligible to work under child labor laws 60,000,000 That leaves 14,000,000 Number of unemployed in nation 13,999,998 Number left to produce nation's goods 2 (Just You and Me, and I'm getting tired.)" FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST SCIENTIST Christian Science) 125 North Philadelphia "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." These words of the Psalmist constitute the Golden Text in the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. The Lesson-Sermon denounces ancient and modern necromansy, alias mesmerism and hypnotism. A Scriptural selection in the Lesson-Sermon cites these verses from Isaiah: "Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? -Behold, as his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together." One of the correlative passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Editor Gazette, Anaheim, California. In scanning the political skies for the last few days or weeks at the most. I can see a crisis approaching, that unless prompt and decisive action is taken we will find out everlastingly too late, and we will be in the toils of a real Naziest Government of the worst type. In order to arrive at a reasonable conclusion one must hear and observe all sides and angles of all concerned. After listening to the silvery tongued orations of the Democrats and how they propose to balance the budget if placed in power for 4 years more. And how the aged and needy will be amply provided for, and when we recall but a few short years ago these same promises were spread on the air and when we know beyond any argument, we are many many million dollars farther away than we were at that time, we just can't swallow it again. These years, of watchfulwaiting, has given time for thought and seriously to we find we are being betrayed into the hands of Wall St., with no uncertainty about it. Just one promise made at that time has been kept and that is the return of the liquor traffic, which has proven a curse to the country instead of a service, thus adding sadness and sorrow to want and wee. Then when we listen in to Father Coughlin it is so very plain to understand which way he is headed and just what he has in mind—it seems to me one can't help but understand his motive. If one will but observe closely his appeal and following is to the rifraff or floating population of all nationalities, most of whom are not citizens and have no vote. BENEFIT CHRISTMAS PHANTOM CHECKS $25 to $4000 A 1935 HIT! Checks have been going over in a big way for several seasons, and here's a new refinement of the check idea that is making them more popular than ever. Nothing "loud" about these new patterns. They're subdued—scarcely visible in fact. That's where they get the name "Phantom." But they are very smart in these fine worsteds, styled and tailored in the true Hart Schaffner & Marx way. F. A.
