Missourians To Hold Reu water problem today was dumped into the lap of opponents of the flood control and water conservation plan." This article, I suppose, was written by a little coterie of men constituting themselves the "Citizens Water Committee," and they graciously state they have decided to suspend activity for one week to give the opposition and opportunity to present a substitute proposition, which must stand the test of a competent Engineer and an expert Economist and an up to date Politician. If no program meeting these qualifications is presented by November 1 the aforesaid Committee will proceed with plans to bring about a second election. It would appear this Committee has constituted itself as guardians of the opposing voters who are commanded or demanded to bring forth the above mentioned substitute proposition. I am quite sure I will voice the sentiment of the voters who are opposed to this bond issue when I say they do not consider themselves under any obligation to come forward with any excuse other than their objection to any further bonded debt. I think it was only about two years ago when we were asked to vote an issue of bonds for the purpose of dredging the Newport Beach harbor, promising that we would have all of the large passenger boats, big freighters all coming in there, thus constituting the greatest business imaginable—the grandest thing for all the ranchers of Orange county. If any of them are benefitted or ever will be please tell me when and how. The thing that dumfounds the writer the most is that many of the good people of Santa Ana, Orange, Anaheim, Fullerton and perhaps other towns, who have already voted a heavy bond issue in the Metropolitan District, from which they expect to get their domestic water, are now willing to vote another large bond issue on themselves when it does not benefit them in the least directly. The writer has always favored fairplay and straight shooting. Please tell me why the proponents of this bond issue do not state the full facts in the case. They leave the impression that if we will vote the $6,620,000 that the Government this county has been settled at least fifty years, perhaps seventy-five. Has any one ever known any very great financial loss or deaths from these terrible disastrous floods that we hear so much about? If we have stood the gulf along that line for all these intervening years can we not take chances awhile longer? Voters you who are opposed to loading us up with this big debt of $13,-195,000, and not just $6,620,000, go and vote. If I am wrong in anything I have stated, I will ask theponents, or anyone else, to right. It is better to sh ignorance then to remain hence again, put me right. Very truly. J. E. They leave the impression that if we will vote the $6,620,000 that the Government will GIVE us $6,475,000. This is absolutely misleading. We are voting $13,195,000. Why not state that plainly to the people? The Government is not giving us anything. What they advance will have to be repaid the same as the $6,620,000. Further, if these cities which I have mentioned will get their water from the great Hoover (excuse me, I should have said Boulder) dam, will that not leave the water which they are now using, in the underground reservoir for the ranchers, thus relieving the present great shortage of water. Further, the proponents put great stress upon the flood control.
