ANAHEIM GAZETTE NEWSY NOTES With vacation season about to come to a close a good many are "reporting in" from happy times spent at the many beaches, resorts, and travels about the country. Among those are the Misses Kathryn and Mary Jane Van Booven who report a splendid trip to Van Couver, B. C. They traveled by water, sailing northward on the German freighter, Tacoma, and returning on the H. F. Alexander. Their entire vacation consumed about a month, and they both tell some mighty interesting events of their trip. Mr. and Mrs. George Jones of Coronado Road are home again from their vacation. The "main event" of their trip was fishing in the inviting streams of the Sierra Nevada range. Mrs. George Dean and daughter, Miss Laura, of East Sycamore have recently returned from a two months visit in Texas. They too, report a wonderful time, visiting with friends and relatives in Haskell, the former home of Mrs. Dean, and El Paso. On their return trip they stopped at the Carlsbad Caves and the Grand Canyon. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bushman, of West Broadway, are at home to their many friends, having recently returned from their wedding trip. They chose the northern country, enjoying the interesting Mrs. Fannie Pritchett of North Claudina street and Mrs. Blanche Daniels of Olive street are also among those who have recently returned from a vacation. They traveled by auto, visiting Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Parks, and the Hoover Dam. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schermerhorn of North Philadelphia are recent visitors at the Fair in San Diego. HELP SOME MORE HELP-FUL LEGISLATION In a recent issue of our e. c Editor and Publisher, Marlen Pew devoted his entire "Shop Talk at Thirty" to the testimony of Emile Gauvreau before the house committee on patents at Washington in regard to the low estate to which the Fourth Estate has fallen in this country ("Ex Mirror Ed Tells All"). "The upshot of this vindictive excursion to Washington," says Mr. Pew in conclusion, "was that Representative Moritz of Pennsylvania introduced a bill in the house which would compel all newspapers to publish the names and addresses of all persons writing editorials or editorial paragraphs." He then quotes the following editorial which appeared in the Washington News immediately after the bill was introduced. It follows: NICE IDEA (Headline by Jones) dorse the idea heartily. (The heartily. (This paragraph by Smith.) Too long have we labored us sung. Even the fresh cub reports sometimes gets a signature, but what laurels does our erudition bring? Our midnight oil, our reading of ponderous speeches, or scanning of statistics, what do they avail the secret urgings of our vanity? (This paragraph by Johnson, with a little help from his old English teacher.) More power to Mr. Moritz, say we. (This paragraph by Brown.) More power that is, unless you decide on second thought that the sort of thing might drive us crazy. (This paragraph by entitle staff.) Well comma just to make sure that we're in the clear when, and if that bill becomes a law, hereby declare that the above item was clipped from Editor and Publisher by a pair of scissors (Pa Pending), attached to a sheet copy paper with library pass (Sanford M'f'g Co.), carried out to the composing room by a copy boy (Bob), set in type by a ball-headed operator (George) on a machine, (Mergenthaler Linotty Co.), and printed with Black Dibond News Ink (Western Newspaper Union) on a press (Miel Printing Co.), but that full sponsibility for its publication is assumed by E.
