Lemon Telephone 2001 SMITTY SAYS: Well, the boss has decided maybe he'd better buy me a new hat now that both my readers have asked what happened to this column last week. And the funny part of it is that both of them asked about it in his presence... It was a little embarrassing for me however, as now if I should hit for a raise, well, he'll probably think I have the big head and maybe refuse... Oh, well anyway guess it's pretty good to have a couple friends without having to... but speaking of money, Louis Danz thinks its a disgusting subject so we'll pass up any more words about it. Mel Gauer says he'll give anyone one ten bucks that'll steal my dictionary and then he won't have to look up the words that I blame on him. (Just between us I haven't any dictionary... I borrowed his). And here all this time I have been wondering who owned that tri-colored motor vehicle that hangs out around the police station... You know in the old days and maybe still, the wild men of the jungles of Africa used to paint themselves with hideous colors to scare away the evil spirits... well, Officer Wilder of Anaheim's finest (I think they're part of the finest... I'll check with the fire department on that) anyway Police Officer Wilder states that if that idea worked for the savages, then he can save some money for the taxpayers in ammunition by parking in front of the police station and then the "evil spirits" will not go near the city hall anyway... No, no, I wouldn't intimate that the color of the julope (let's see maybe it's G'loppy) is hideous... it's orange, black, blue, red, no there's no yellow... but there's this much... the colors are the choice of the balance of the force... each had a turn with Entertainment at La Habra Church Two plays will mark the activities of the young people of the Baptist Church of La Habra for the purpose of raising funds for their summer conference. The program will take place tomorrow (Friday) night when the plays will be given in addition to special music and other entertainment. The first play will be "Down South" and the second "The Florist Shop." the brush and each put on his favorite color... and my, my what a diversified taste our minions of the law have. The colors each have a meaning, they tell me. The black represents night duty, especially on nights when the moon is on a vacation; blue denotes the heavens above on a sunshiny day, such as we have almost constantly throughout the year. (Boy, page George Reid) orange (nearly forgot this one) well that's another for George Reid you know chamber of commerce stuff... we raise oranges around here and that's that... and the red... well that's the favorite color of the cop on the beat when someone wakes him up... Can't figure out which one put the red on the car. (Grant Rude says that colors denote the moods)... the orange denoting the peeling of the alarm bell; the black and blue... the desk sergeant has been trying to get the chief to get cushions for the hard bottom chairs around the police station and the red... well you guess. Anyway — 'S all in fun.
