TO DISCUSS WORM INFESTATION AT MEETING FRIDAY, JULY 26
Citrus growers of Orange County are invited to attend a field meeting Friday, July 26, 9:30 a.m., at which a report of the season's orange worm infestation in this county will be discussed and recommendations of control made for the coming season. Considerable drop is taking place in many orchards, due largely to the attack of the orange worm known as the Tortrix and Holcocera caterpillars.
The meeting has been arranged by the farm advisor's office to bring the latest information to local growers based on research work carried on by entomologists of the Citrus Experiment Station and the field inspection work supervised by the Agricultural Commissioner's office of Orange County.
It is desirable that all growers experiencing losses from this source and those who wish to know how to identify the pests, attend the meeting. D. W. Tubbs, Orange County Agricultural Commissioner, A. M. Boyce and A. J. Bassinger, entomologists of the Citrus Experiment Station, will outline the status of the worm fruit drop in this area, and the extent of worm infestation and present control recommendations.
The growers will first assemble at Jack Fisher Park, Santa Ana, at 9:30 a.m. to hear the discussion and then adjourn to an adjacent orchard to study and observe the problem in the field.
Jack Fisher Park is located on North Flower Street bridge Santa Ana, which crosses the Sixtiago Creek. Coming from north, turn at Flower Street, Santa Ana Boulevard and go mile south to the bridge. Coming from the south, go west on Seventeenth Street, Santa Ana, to Fleer Street and then north about mile to the bridge.
