National Guard Companies of State Preparing for Encampment July 14th
Sacramento—The greatest concentration of troops in California since the World War will be assembled just north of Santa Maria from July 14 to 19 inclusive, when 6000 National Guardsmen from Utah, Nevada and California will hold joint maneuvers. It was announced today by Colonel Paul Arndt, Acting Adjutant General, California National Guard.
After tactical maneuvers in which troops will be divided into two opposing armies attacking and defending an area between Guadalupe and Arroyo Grande, the 6000 National Guardsmen will pass in review Friday morning, July 19, at 10:00 A.M., at San Luis Obispo Training Camp, before Governor Frank F. Merriam of California, Commander in Chief of the California National Guard, Governor Henry H. Blood of Utah, and Governor Richard Kirman of Nevada, all of whom will be represented by troops from these states.
Governor Merriam has also invited Secretary of War George H. Dern; Major General Paul B. Malone, Commanding General of the Ninth Corps Area, San Francisco; and Major General George E. Leach, Chief of the National Guard Bureau of Washington, D.C.
The maneuvers will embrace the Fortleth Division under the command of Major General David Prescott Barrows, former president of the University of California. The Fortleth Division is a tactical command comprising the troops of the states of California, Utah, and Nevada.
The two opposing armies of the maneuvers are the 79th Brigade, commanded by Brigadier General Wallace A. Mason of Sacramento, and the 80th Brigade, commanded by Brigadier General Walter P. Story of Los Angeles.
The 79th Brigade, consisting of the 159th Infantry of the San Francisco
The 80th Brigade of southern California, which is the attacking division and which consists of the 160th Infantry of Los Angeles and the 185th Infantry of San Joaquin Valley, Orange Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, will march to a position just north of Santa Maria on Sunday, July 14, in preparation for an attack upon the northern brigade.
The 40th Division Aviation, having eight airplanes, will be divided between the two forces. Similarly, the 40th Signal Company will be divided between the two forces to furnish communications.
The 40th Tank Company will be assigned to the southern attacking forces. The Tank Company's home station is Salinas.
The 115th Engineers and the 40th Division Military Police, both of Nevada, will be assigned to duty probably with the southern troops.
In addition, the 145th Field Artillery of Utah and the 143d Hospital Company of Utah will march overland from their stations in Utah to arrive as artillery support of the southern Brigade under General Story.
The 143d Field Artillery of the Stockton region will be assigned to support of the northern Brigade under General Mason.
Monday morning, July 15, the attack should take place, and each side will carry out the tactical maneuvers which are a part of military training. The "battle" is scheduled to last until July 18 when all troops will march back to San Luis Obispo Training Camp for the review.
While the official orders speak of the soldiers marching from Utah, Nevada, and points in California, they will in fact "march" in new trucks which have been furnished to this state by the Federal Government for the transportation.
rows, former president of the University of California. The Fortieth Division is a tactical command comprising the troops of the states of California, Utah, and Nevada.
The two opposing armies of the maneuvers are the 79th Brigade, commanded by Brigadier General Wallace A. Mason of Sacramento, and the 80th Brigade, commanded by Brigadier General Walter P. Story of Los Angeles.
The 79th Brigade, consisting of the 159th Infantry of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the 184th Infantry of the Sacramento area, will be marched into camp at San Luis Obispo on July 8, will remain there until Friday, July 12, when they will depart for a position near Guadalupe, arriving Sunday afternoon, July 14.
On Sunday afternoon, July 14, General Mason's Sacramento troops will be notified that the enemy is approaching from southern California to attack the camp.

SMITTY SAYS
Howdy, Howdy, folk . . . here we are loudcasting from the new institution . . . and when I say loudcasting . . . well there's a carpenter right in front of me hammering away like he was in a hurry to get done before he runs out of hails . . . and then the mechanics are juggling the new press around with a vim and vigor that leads one to believe that noise is the main object and here I sit . . . wonderin', wonderin' when it will all stop.
Too, nearly forgot the electrician is making holes in the wall and swinging pipe over my head and making me duck every so often . . . busy? . . Well you guess . . . where is everything? . . Well you know the old moving gag . . we're here BUT .
Well here we are again trying to get something on this sheet of paper to put in that "colymn" for my dear public (yes, I mean both of them) to read and gloit over.
To save my sole I can't think of an enemy in town — except maybe . . . well there's Bill Puffer . . . my pal the butcher boy. Bill has been playing some snazy baseball for the 20-30 club recently and I understand that he derned near made a run in a game they played against the Walkers last Monday night.
Bill you see is "cleanup" man on the team (the members let him clean the dust off the bats then they make the runs) and amid the wild roars of the crowded stands last Monday night Bill got a hit . . . well anyway Ken Walker, who apparently had to work the night before . . . got a little sleepy in the fourth or maybe it was the fifth innning, and he put one right down the groove.
Many Taking Part Summer Activities In Yorba Linda
Adults and children are joining in the Yorba Linda Summer Recreation program now in progress in Yorba Linda each day of the week except Saturday and Sunday and week nights from 7 to 9 o'clock at the Grammar school.
The girls' basketball teams are to meet July 11 at 8 p.m. on the school athletic field. Many other public contests are being arranged by the groups for the summer months.
Many high school and junior college volunteered their services for the activity program, including Thelma Cox, Harvey French, Marylin Chapman, Yvonne French, Viola Renneker, Emelle Oas, Dorcas May, Whit Cromwell and Adelaide Barbre.
Included in the newer activities is a class in doll dressmaking, in session each Tuesday at 10 a.m. Adult classes convene in drama from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Fridays and in dressmaking Wednesday from 9 to 4. Classes in drama, music, folk dancing, shadow plays, sewing, sports and games are held during the day.
would've been a triple had Bill been out of the way, but anyway after much effort Bill finally reached third. He then saw a chance and stole for home ... no, dear reader I mean he tripped lightly toward home plate ... however, there was a fellow there who didn't like Bill so he tagged him and then the chump of an ump had nerve enough to call our Bill out ... and that is the story of how Bill nearly reached home.

NEWLY DISCOVERED HORMONE HELPS MEN PAST 40
Generally around and after 40 one's vigor becomes impaired and his vitality lowered, due in many cases to mental and physical fatigue or to tired, sluggish glands.
A new discovered hormone (and activator) has been found (of which remarkable help is in the form under the trade name of Zoak) (the package for men's orange package for women) and may be obtained at any drug store which will refund your money if you do not feel considerably benefited after taking Zoak uninterruptedly for one month.
An interesting booklet "For Men Who Want to Live" tells more about the hormone and how it helps men past 40. This booklet written by a distinguished American physician will be sent to you free in sealed envelope by Zoak Co., 56 W. 45th St., New York.

Among the Bible selections in the Lesson-Sermon are these verses from Luke: "Now the feast of unleavened bread drew night, which is called the Passover . . . And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him . . . And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: . . . Here On Business
SANTA ANA, July 10.—Congressman Sam L. Collins is taking advantage of the current hull in Congress to make a hurried business trip to his district.
Preparatory to the consideration of the President's tax bill Congress is going in for a series of three day recesses, during which time no legislation of great importance will be considered.
Collins has taken this opportunity to personally investigate the status of pending public works projects under the recent public works act.
He will also make a detailed inquiry into the probable effects which pending legislation would have upon the Palm Springs Mission Indians if enacted.
He plans to return to Washington at the earliest possible date.
