We think we see an outcropping of a frame-up in the statement attributed to Jim Jeffries and those near him that he will ask for a return match (after the Reno, Jeffries-Johnson fight) that he can "lick the nigger," and that if Johnson refuses to fight him, Jeffries will hunt him up and pummel him, as he once threatened to do in the cellar under Corbett's boozeholst in McCarthy's Paris of America.

"How's the town been getting along since I stopped coming in?" he inquired of a bystander. "Well Bob," the man replied, "since you've quit coming to town every thing has been getting along fine." Bob's laugh could be heard a block, and he proceeded on his way rejoicing.

The irrepressible conflict between fruit grower and the beekeeper is to the fore. Though grapes areripe, the bees are busily at work resting them, to the annoyance and of the vineyardists, and unless the bees of the depredating bees corral we are requested to give warning the bees will be warred upon. Theious and efficacious way of killing which many fruit growers here is to attract the bees to vessels money on which common flour has sprinkled. It may be "borrowing trouble" to remark that the crop of eggs deposited this year will produce destructive myraids of hoppers next season unless a wet winter intervenes and destroys them. The valuable experience gained this year in the afflicted counties as to the best methods of combatting the pest however, enables the threatened districts to view with the trepidation a prospective plague.
W. M. Bailey offers ninety acres of land four miles north of town of which 22½ acres are in three year old vines and twenty acres in fruit trees. Water stock goes with the land. This property is commended to the favorable notice of persons looking for a home. The soil is unimpeachable, the location excellent and the price asked is reasonable. We doubt if a better bargain was ever offered.
Mr. J. C. Sommer, foreman of the Cucamonga vineyard has been spending some days in town. We have under careful consideration his invitation to go to Cucamonga and kill three bears which are ranging the hills in the immediate vicinity and dispoiling the bee hives.

Pellegrin Bros., & Co., Manufacturers Agents, Anaheim.
Having thoroughly examined the planes of all first-class manufacturers, I can freely recommend the Weber as being superior to them all. Its principal points of excellence are its elasticity of touch, and its full, round sympathetic tone, which all singers and musicians generally so much appreciate.
With best wishes, faithfully yours,
(Signed) Emma Abbott.

Making Preparations For Los Angeles County Fair; To Open September 13
In anticipation of the largest attendance in its history, due to the greater tourist influx, work is being rushed at top speed on preparations for the fourteenth annual Los Angeles County Fair at Pomona. The huge agricultural and industrial exposition which also includes Riverside and Orange County fairs, will open in the beautiful 175-acre exhibition park in Pomona, Friday, Sept. 13 and continue through Sunday, Sept. 29.
Included in a $100,000 SERA project which has been under way for months, are a series of important additions and improvements which will add greatly to the beauty and facilities of the grounds. A two-story wing is being added to the administration building. It covers a ground space of 29 by 47 feet and will contain much needed office space, designed for the father's health and mind under such circumstances.
The Sunday School of St. Michael's church will hereafter be held between 4 and 5 o'clock in the afternoon.
An attempt is being made in Los Angeles to organize a cremating society. The average Los Angeles man should burn well.
It is remarkable that budded fruit trees are bearing but scantily this year. While seedlings are overloaded with fruit.
Mrs. L. Williams and two children living about four miles from town, are suffering from scarlet fever. These are the only cases reported. The disease is quite prevalent throughout the state at the present time.
rectors' room, private offices, meeting rooms for organizations, etc. This is the third time that the administration building has been enlarged.
Three large horse barns, each containing 20 spacious stalls, have just been furnished and will offer accommodations for the record number of race and show horses expected this fall. Over 1000 horses can now be stabled on the grounds.
A submerged concrete building containing dressing rooms for the entertainers in the free acts is ready for use just across the tracks from the grandstand. A large new stage and sunken bandstand are other improvements just finished.
For the benefit of the patrons to the afternoon horses races, the entire space between the grandstand and the track has been made into a ramp so that those standing in the rear will have no difficulty in seeing over the heads of those in front. More booths will also be installed for use of the pari-mutuel patrons.
Further landscaping of the grounds includes planting thousands of trees, shrubs and plants to continue the beautification program started in 1934 when 20,000 were set out. All of this further enhance the exposition's reputation as "The Most Beautiful in America." The officers are bending every effort this year to make it more representative than ever of the accomplishments, possibilities and ideals of the great empire of the Southwest.
