PLAYGROUND ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN OPENS AT CITY PARK, SCHOOLGROUNDS
Monday saw the beginning of an elaborate program of recreational activities among the children and adults at the city park and at the five school grounds under the auspices of the city and SERA directors.
The city has provided $1000 towards the work, a portion of which pays a trained supervisor to manage the entire program. He is Richard Glover, high school athletic coach, who has arranged a program providing children and adults with everything in the way of recreation and sports there is any demand for.
On the elementary school grounds organized games and tournaments will be played in addition to handicraft for very small children, and checkers art classes, story telling and games.
At the high school a hardball league will be organized with spontaneous tournaments to be held in any of the sports called for. The ordinary type of ball games will be supplemented with badminton, ping-pong, bicycle racing, boxing, wrestling, and other sports. Classes in woodworking and in machine shop will be conducted. Richard Ryan will supervise activities at the high school and Miss Margaret Gilman will have charge of the girls.
At the city park both men and women instructors will be on duty seven days a week rather than six as at the school grounds. Besides all the games to be played at the school grounds, the park will also offer tennis tournaments, swimming lessons, a supervisor for the very small children who will also tell stories, and a picnic ground hostess, whose duties it will be to show the guests about the park when they wish and to provide equipment for games and help wherever needed.
An interesting feature of the program will be the schedule of events for adults. Evening leagues will be formed for hardball, softball, golf, tennis, ping-pong and badminton among the adults. While the park will be used, as well as outside locations, most of the evening program will center at the high school where the gymnasium will be open as a recreational center and offer facilities in floor games, table games and other sports.
Included in the program is a schedule of events to be held on Thursday evenings at the city park theater. There will be nine of these programs, starting June 27 and omitting July 4th. The SERA will furnish talent for vaudeville

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCHES
"Is the Universe, including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?" This question constitutes the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Mass. The Golden Text is from Revelation: "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
The Lesson-Sermon includes these Scriptural selections from Genesis: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth... And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
Among the correlative passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, are the statements: "God creates and governs the universe, including man. The universe is filled with spiritual ideas, which He evolves, and they are obedient to the Mind."
Chamber Commerce Plans Entertain Tourists to Fair
The Chamber of Commerce at its regular meeting held at the Pickwick Hotel last Thursday featured discussion of a scenic tour for visitors to the San Diego Fair, through Northern Orange County. The tours will be conducted under the auspices of the Anaheim Chamber-ofCommerce.
George Reid, secretary, and Dr. H. A. Johnston, one of the directors, have compiled a pamphlet outlining the drive showing pictures, which extends through the orange lemon, walnut and avocado groves, the oil fields, and by the industrial plants near Anaheim. There will be a little of the history of the country in the pamphlet which is now in the process of being printed. At least 5000 copies will be available for distribution.
The chamber plans to offer guide service on the tour when desired by tourists. When the secretary cannot go, the chamber members will take turns volunteering their services in this respect.
On reception of a letter from Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, the local body planned to enter into a joint effort with the harbor body and the Costa Mesa chamber to ask Commissioner P. A. Stanton for aid in obtaining funds to relieve the jog in the year-old Harbor boulevard, where it meets Garden Grove boulevard.
Extension of Palm street in Anaheim to meet Harbor boulevard from Costa Mesa southward was effected last summer. A jog of five eighths of a mile was left in the road where it crosses.

what was then called Ocean avenue. While the chambers would prefer obtaining enough funds to entirely straighten the road at this point, if this could not be effected they hope that an easy S curve can be constructed.
Directors turned down a proposal to draw up a slate of nominees for the six positions on the board of directors the election for which is ensuing. They preferred to leave it up to each member to select his own choice of representatives on the board.
