Wheat Farmers Vote For Program Crop Adjustment Practically complete returns on the wheat referendum held May 25 show that 86.6 percent of all producers voting favor a crop adjustment program, according to word received at the Farm Advisor's office from the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. Of the total vote, 397,840 voted for a continuance of the program and 61,123 voted against it. Both contract signers and non-signers voted by a big majority in favor of continued adjustment. Wheat contract signers control approximately 51 million acres of the total of 66 million acres seeded in the United States during the years 1930 to 1932. Of the total of 2,025 California wheat farmers voting, 79% were in favor of the continuance of the crop program. As a result of this large majority voting on the question: "Are you in favor of a wheat production adjustment program to follow the present one which expires with the 1935 crop year?" A new contract is being drafted to cover the years 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939. It is expected to use the same base acreage and production periods in the new contract as was used in the old contract. The maximum acreage adjusted which may be asked under the Minnesotans Will Hold Summer Picnic Every one from Minnesota is invited to the annual summer picnic reunion given by the Minnesota State Society of Southern California. Ask questions of C. H. Parsons, MI 9241, Angelus Hotel, where all the Federation of State Societies registers are to be found. new program is 25%. While the present contract permits a 20% adjustment, 15% was the greatest amount asked for. The new contracts will be out sometime in July. As soon as they are available growers may obtain them at the Farm Advisor's office, according to W. M. Cory, Assistant Farm Advisor. Over 600 growers are expected to attend from the various citrus producing counties of the state, including Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Tulare and San Diego Counties. Saturday's sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue all day at the Willard Junior High School auditorium, corner North Ross and Washington Streets. Many leaders of the industry, including directors and managers of both Exchange and M.O.D. packing houses in this and other counties have indicated their intention of attending. Research workers and other members of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, State Department of Agriculture, and the Experiment Station, will also avail themselves of the opportunity to hear the reports on the economic and cultural discussions to be presented by the speakers on the program and also meet the growers attending from the several counties. All growers and others interested in the various aspects of the citrus industry are cordially invited to attend, according to Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg. The institute, he says, is sponsored by the Agricultural Extension Service of the University of California and the Citrus Department of the California Farm Bureau Federation. Its program is designed to keep the grower informed on the latest developments in the industry.
