Planning Model Homes Be Built By FHA In Cities According to W. G. Bingham, Associate Director, Southern California, for the Federal Housing Administration, the launching of one or more new Model Homes in every important city and town in the country on June 15 is being arranged for by the Field Division of the Federal Housing Administration. This had been originally planned for May 25, but in order to meet the demand for more time by the various individuals and organizations who would like to participate the date has been advanced to June 15. Ground will be broken simultaneous- FOX ANAHEIM 229 W. Center Phone 3602 Sun., Mon., Tues. May 19-29-21 Sunday Continuous From 2 P. M. M. KNOUSE IS POSTMISTRESS Announcement was made last Saturday that Mrs. Myrtle Knouse had received word of her appointment as postmistress of Westminster post office. The appointment came from Post-by for the 1,000 homes which it is expected will be launched on this day. On completion the homes will be held open for display for a certain period and then sold to individual owners. This day has been designated as National Better Housing Day, and a nation-wide ceremony is being planned for that date, in which President Roosevelt will be asked to participate, Mr. Bingham says. Arrangements are being made in Washington for a number of National manufacturers to launch Model Homes on June 15. Local lumber and supply dealers are also planning to erect a number of Model Homes in cooperation with builders and contractors and department stores in several cities also have expressed an interest in participating in this program as a means of stimulating sales of home equipment and furnishings. Figures which have been compiled show that there is a genuine demand for new overbuilding. Many people have overlooked the fact, however, that in the last three years not enough new homes have been built to replace those destroyed by fire alone; and there is a tremendous latent demand for new and better housing. CHURCHES OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST The proverb, "In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death," is the Golden Text in the Lesson-Sermon on "Mortals and Immortals" on Sunday in all Christian Science churches, branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. Among the Bible selections in the Lesson-Sermon are these verses from the Gospel of John: "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free... If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keep my saying, he shall never see death." Correlative passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, state: "Man in the likeness of God as revealed in Science cannot help being immortal... In Science, man's immortality depends upon that of God, good, and follows as a necessary consequence of the immortality of good." Had a varied week to tell about and guess better do it by installments or something. First of all gathered in Ray Smith from the police station last Friday night. (Didn't know what the charge was but he was in the station just the same without any other legal help than offered the usual habitue of such places and then we started out to go places. Landed eventually in Seal Beach which by the way must be close to the ocean. There had a Legion county council meeting. All that developed at the meeting was the usual number of resolutions (one) which condemned somebody for doing something (which is out of the ordinary) but maybe the resolute thought that it was because somebody didn't do something. Anyway along about 11 o'clock Ray and I woke up Jack Phillips (yeah the one that operates the Progress of Brea) and we all came home, where we went into executive session with "our" attorney Leo Frils. You see the difference between meeting Leo in the Marigold and in his office is, that we let Leo pay for our coffee . . . and the funny part of it is that Leo doesn't use his prerogative (I think that's the word) of the usual "I object" Nozzir . . . he accepted the check without comment nor summing up (he even took the word of Carl Oelke that the check was okay). Anyway Ray Smith had promised to be home by midnight and he was only a couple hours late which is fairly close to punctual. Oh, yes, we were joined there by Ted Masterson . . . who read the sign at the door—"Park your irons outside" . . . and then he had a cup of tea with us. Also we found out that Roger Sherman was shaking doorknobs at that hour so the calm of the evening was undisturbed. (The one exception was Earl Fulfer demanded admittance Boston Couple Visits With Local Friends Dr. and Mrs. Blanchette of Boston were in town for a few hours on Saturday, guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Backs and family, whom they had the pleasure of meeting first while sailing on the Rhine eight years ago. Their friendship has continued and whenever the doctor makes out the itinerary for his globe trotting in the western hemisphere he always includes a visit to Anaheim to meet his friends. This is his third visit here. Mr. and Mrs. Backs drove to San Pedro at 10 o'clock and met the travelers and brought them to Anaheim where they remained until 4 p.m. They were then taken back to the vessel and continued on their way south, through the Panama canal and on home, which they will reach after an absence of six months. Dr. and Mrs. Blanchette have been touring the Orient in their around the world trip. They spent some time in India, Slam. Asked how these countries compare with Southern California, he said there is only one country like this. Mr. and Mrs. Backs, Miss Florence Backs and Miss Winifred Melrose leave Friday for a two and a half months tour of the Orient, sailing on the steamer Lurine from San Pedro. During the absence of Mr. Backs his duties as secretary of the Savings, Loan and Building Association will be attended to by his assistant Elmer Bruce. Wm. T. Wallop, president of the association will also be in attendance to look after the company's business. ever you folks think it's too terrible then that's when you can imagine Leo wrote it...
