Kiwanis Club At Fullerton Heard Dr. H. A. Basher The Kiwanis Club at Fullerton met last Friday noon in the El Patio cafe at which time the speaker was Dr. Horace A. Basher. The meeting marked the opening of Kiwanis Progressive week and the speaker's topic dealt with the progress of Kiwanis International in the past few months. A resolution endorsing further work on playground activities and supporting efforts of the Fullerton Committee working with the SERA on this program was presented. Man Attempts Pass Worthless Check Here A man said in one place "to look like a banker" and described at another business place in Anaheim as "five feet five, weighing about 125 and dressed in a blue suit, driving a Ford V-S" attempted to bilk the merchants with counterfeit money and a bogus check according to reports made to the police. Mrs. Louise Witt, 927 No. Los Angeles told the police that the man attempted to pass a counterfeit five dollar bill in her establishment. She gave a description of the man but failed to obtain the license number of his car. A short time later, the Oakwood Winery, 115 North Los Angeles street reported to police that the man "who looked like a banker" had offered a bad check. The police believe it is the same man. Plans Egg Hunt Fullerton Man In Telephone Co. Show Everything from a bowl of tropical fish to a home-made enlarging camera from an olive can, a phonograph gadget and an automobile headlight, recently attracted hundreds of visitors to the second annual Hanlcraft and Hobbie Exhibit sponsored by employees of the Southern California Telephone Company. More than 600 individual exhibits were on view for three days at the employee club rooms in Los Angeles. Innovations at the show were actual demonstrations by several of the hobbyists of their arts and crafts. Earl L Prigeon ground the telescope mirror for his home-made star-gazing apparatus, and R. J. Foulke, an engineer fashioned hand-wrought jewelry. At the model camp exhibit of the Rod and Reel Club, members demonstrated the wrapping of fishing poles, and guest saw pottery in the making at the exhibit of E. J. Auld, building engineer. R. W. Downing, telephone manager at Fullerton, displayed his collapsible two wheeled trailer. Garden Club members had a real growing garden at the show while members of the Camera Club actually printed and enlarged picture under a read cellophane screen. R. G. Herr, a business office employee who becomes a woodworker in his spare time, demonstrated his skill at a lathe Hand-looming was demonstrated by Lucile Gribble of the sales department and Lucy Whitney from the accounting department brought her whole family of 28 dolls. An information operator who makes pottery gurines, an in-staller who collects guns, a repairman who gets prizes on his stamp collections, and a line man from Occasional who whittles cork were typical of the hundreds of employee exhibitors who are enthusiastic hobbyists. "The model village is being constructed at the expense of a non-profit organization or corporation which has also made possible the huge auditorium. They are really doing things in Los Angeles." Following the talk many questions were asked of the speaker relative to the working plan of the housing act, all of which were answered by Beebe and matters of doubt cleared up. That the housing act is functioning and is a success was impressed upon the assemblage by the speaker, who stated that regardless of what transpired here, enough of the plans had gone forward to insure a success. He announced that he would be glad to confer with anyone interested in the plan if they would call at his office. Upon motion the secretary was ordered to write a letter of condolence to the family of O. E. Steward, expressing the sympathy of the members of the association.
