Schools for Sales of Citrus Fruits Now Being Held
Schools to increase sales of oranges, lemons and grapefruit are now being conducted by several of the large retail outlets in the United States and abroad. It is announced by J. A. Steward, sales manager of the Mutual Orange Distributors. One of the factors in these schools is a moving picture film of the citrus industry prepared by the MOD.
"These schools are an important follow-up to advertising of California citrus," Steward said. "They are conducted in some places weekly, in others semi-weekly. The fruits and vegetables are attractively arranged on racks in the wholesale warerooms, and a well-informed lecturer instructs the buyers on the best ways in which to display the products, on trade conditions, price probabilities, crop conditions and other points which will help sales. The film gives them a comprehensive view of the steps in the California citrus industry."
"The emphasis of the rack displays are placed in attractiveness, reasonable prices to the consumer and other sales ammunition."
"Several copies of our film are in constant circulation in these schools. They have been shown also extensively in the British Isles and Europe as well as the United States and Canada. One copy now is in the Orient."

Farmer Can Get Loan From Federal Housing Administration According to Field Reporter
The farmer and the orchardist has the same opportunities as the urban dweller to take advantage of the loan facilities offered by the Federal Housing Administration. This, was the statement of H. T. Muzzey, field representative of the Federal Housing Administration, to a group of Orange County farm leaders, who met last week to gather detailed information concerning the Housing Act as it is applied to the rural resident. The meeting was called and presided over by Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg for the purpose of organizing an Educational and Advisory Committee to handle the dissemination of information about the financing plan.
Mr. Muzzy explained that the better housing program was designed to stimulate the making of necessary improvements in the home or on the farm. Any responsible farm owner may apply for a loan up to $2000 for improvement on any one property. Applications for loans may be made at any bank or building supply dealer. They may be made for a period of one to five years.

Chicken Dinner Well Advertised, Well Eaten
"Yes sir" exposulated Al, maestro of Al's Cafe on East Center street after the run made on his chicken dinner last Sunday. "You can tell the public, we have learned that with a real product and some advertising that it's possible to forget old John Gloom and his running mate Jimmy D'Pression."
Al advertised a chicken dinner to be served last Sunday and Ed Ludwig (now Oscar to his friends) who has a little system all his own of cooking chicken to the nth degree of delectability, served the fowl throughout the evening Saturday and all day Sunday to a steady stream of hungry people.
This week they are putting on another type of chicken dinner. (The help hopes to get in on some this time—they have been advised to eat early but not too often).

So. Cal. Shriners To Gather at L. A. Saturday Night
Shriners from all over Southern California have received an official mandate from Lafayette S. Rounsavelle, illustrious potentate of Al Malalkah Temple to present themselves Saturday night, March 23 at Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, to participate in the most spectacular stag event wearers of the crimson fez have ever staged. More than 5000 nobles are expected. Shriners only will be admitted.
Full details concerning "Shrine Safari" on June 1 to celebrate the opening week-end of the world's fair at San Diego will be divulged. Ten thousand Shriners from the 11 western states will trek to San Diego by a fleet of special trains, motor caravans and aeroplane squadrons for the mammoth ceremonial to be staged within the fair grounds, initiating a class of 300 noophytes.
Arriving in San Diego the Shriners will be taken in special cars to the fair grounds, entering in pageant formation with more than a 1000 in the uniformed organizations from Al Malalkah, Los Angeles; Al Bahr, San Diego; and El Zeribah, Phoenix, plus a vanguard of camels and elephants. After the ceremonial comes a barbecue dinner, then a pilgrimage to Tia Juana for "A Night in a Foreign Country," with the streets of the quaint little Mexican border-town roped off for dancing. Rooms will be provided in San Diego and Coronado for those desiring to sleep, with all night train service from the border.
Sunday morning all the trains will move across the line, and the day will be spent at Callente, with an afternoon at the track where the Potentate's Sweepstakes and the Shrine Derby will
Interesting Report Given On Aqueduct
New strides in Colorado River Aqueduct construction were revealed this week when headquarters of the Metropolitan Water District announced that crews working at fourteen major locations along the aqueduct have broken ground, and in many cases completed excavation, for a total of twenty-six miles of conduits, siphons and canals.
At the same time aqueduct tunnel crews completed the excavation of sixty-five miles of hard-rock tunnels out of the ninety-two miles of tunnels to be driven on the main aqueduct.
The excavation of the twenty-six miles of aqueduct canals, conduits and siphons has been accomplished in less than four months, it was pointed out. It constitutes the first major section of the 150 miles of similar construction now under contract on the aqueduct project.
Aqueduct "open work"—the siphons, canals and conduits—will link together the twenty-nine aqueduct tunnels, which total ninety-two miles in length and are sixteen feet in diameter. All of this "open work" will be of reinforced construction, and the tunnels of the project will be concrete lined. For this purpose the Metropolitan Water District has placed the largest single cement order ever recorded in the history of the industry—5,000,000 barrels.
With construction under way throughout the entire 242-mile length of the aqueduct, the Federal Government is pushing forward the building of Parker Dam on the river. Parker Dam will form the reservoir from which the aqueduct will divert water to be delivered to the cities in the Metropolitan Water District.
