ALFALFA Land for Sale Alfalfa is a staple. Milk is a necessary staple. Butter is a necessary staple. Alfalfa and milk and butter are so closely related that the need for one complements the need for the other. To raise alfalfa economically there must be deep soil, rich soil, sufficient water, and a long growing season. Here is land suitable for cotton or any other field crop. At Buttonwillow, in Kern County, we have 25,000 acres adapted to raising alfalfa. The soil is very deep, very rich and fertile; it is underlaid by the gravel-bed deep down, through which flows an underground river, whence comes the moisture in the soil sought by the tap-roots of alfalfa; while on the surface the hot summer sun aids in the production of six crops of alfalfa a year. This whole neighboring district is composed of deep alluvial soil, partly the result of overflow. REPORT OF BOARD OF AUCTION For the Year Ending December 31, Anaheim, Ct. This whole neighboring district is composed of deep alluvial soil, partly the result of overflow through the ages; of erosion from the rocks of the Sierras; and blended in with the decomposing vegetation which grew lush in this abundantly watered land in ages gone by. At present the excellent irrigation water conditions are inviting you. Here, then, in the prosperous neighborhood of Buttonwillow, 25 miles west of Bakersfield, lies a garden of mulch awaiting the planting of alfalfa for the product of its rich food and of milk, and of butter, to feed the constantly increasing population in and around Los Angeles. It is only a few hours away from where you are reading this advertisement. Only a little trip for you to drive, that you may see with your own eyes and judge from your own information, thus obtained, as to the fertility of the soil; the quality of the roads; the time required to haul the alfalfa by truck from the ranch to the dairying centers in and around Los Angeles; the market price obtainable for alfalfa throughout the year; the advantages for you and your family to locate in the neighborhood of Buttonwillow; and the future possibilities lying there and awaiting your coming. Carter, collector of internal revenue, recently received a telegram from the bureau in Washington to release income tax forms for 1934 on January 10. Collector Carter's force is busily engaged in preparing 250,000 income tax blanks for mailing. Income tax returns must be filed by every person who had a gross income of $5000.00 regardless of net income, or who had a net income of $1000.00 or more if single, or $2500.00 or more, if married. The publicity section of the revenue act of 1934 makes it necessary to file a separate statement with the return this year for public inspection. Failure to file this additional statement on form 1094 incurs a penalty of $5.00 in every case, whether or not any tax is due. The normal tax is 4% of all income over exemptions and the surtax attaches to all income over $4000.00. There is allowed an earned income deduction of 10% of net income not over $14,000.00. All returns for 1934 must be filed on or before March 15, 1935 to avoid 25% penalty. Returns may be filed in the collector's office at 939 South Broadway, Los Angeles, or at any branch office.
