Enumerator Army Begins Its Labors Early In January
Agricultural Resources of the Nation Will Be Learned by Farm Survey
An army of 25,000 enumerators will canvass every farm and ranch in the United States during January, 1935, in connection with the census of agriculture. The fifteenth decennial census act, approved June 18, 1929, directed the census bureau to make this farm enumeration. The reports will be for the calendar year 1934. This farm census is in many respects the most important one ever to be undertaken, according to Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg. Following as it does a year of extreme distress in a large part of the country it must necessarily provide timely and accurate data concerning the present agricultural resources of the nation. Definite figures concerning the yields of the various crops and the numbers of the different classes of livestock will be of unusual value at the present time.
The census enumerators of this district, in charge of L. H. Hoskins, Anaheim, when they call at the farms during January will obtain actual figures as to acres of the different crops raised, yield of crops, number of various classes of livestock, farm values and other important data. However, every report will be absolutely confidential and will not be used as a basis for taxation nor communicated to any tax official.
The cooperation of all farmers and ranchers is necessary to the success and tabulation of the statistics by procuring and studying a sample copy of the schedule in advance of the enumination. These schedules can be secured
as to acres of the different crops raised,
yield of crops, number of various
classes of livestock, farm values and
other important data. However, every
report will be absolutely confidential
and will not be used as a basis for taxation nor communicated to any tax
official.

Louis Hoskins Is
District Manager
for Federal Census
Anaheim's Louis Hoskins last week
received appointment as district manger of seven Southern California counties for the federal agricultural census
to begin early next year. He will have
offices at 292 Court street, San Bernardino, and this week began selection of
field workers and made preparations to
supervise about 110 enumerators.
Hoskins announced that Orange
county is divided into 20 districts, with
an enumerator to be named for each,
with the survey to determine productivity, nature of products, soil, annual
income, number of animals on each
farm and other information, together
with various totals for the county.
Enumerators must be agriculturists or
persons familiar with farming, be between the ages of 25 and 65, and work
for so much per farm. Once begun an
enumerator must complete the work
in his district. No money will be paid
until completion.

Says Agriculture
Holds Good Future
For Young Farmer
Agriculture these days is something more than the raising of grain or fruit; it is an industry which in California amounts to 450 to 500 millions of dollars, according to statement made by Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg to a group of Santa Ana high school students recently. Problems of finance, transportation, storage, and marketing are as important in agriculture as is production; they afford the young man who studies agriculture today opportunities as great as those in any other industry.
