Mr. Lemcke, who resides on West Cypress, states that the Towne Toggery "will be an exclusive men's shop, where we will carry only the best merchandise obtainable. We have examined the best makes of shirts, underwear, and other men's furnishing and will offer what we think are the best standard brands. "We are offering only quality merchandise at reasonable prices and invite the people of this district to come in and see us." The store is completely outfitted in the most modern fixtures, well arranged and well lighted. The date is Monday, September 10. Escondido, through President W. N. Bradbury, of the Grape Day association, invites all of the people of the state to come and celebrate with her. Annually this little city in San Diego county takes a day off and makes merry on Grape day. An all day program, starting with a grand parade at ten o'clock in the morning, entertains the people through mid-day, afternoon and evening. At noon the old time custom of giving luscious grapes will be waiting for the thousands who come for the day. Through the afternoon and evening will be entertainment of many varieties and all classes of people will find plenty to interest them. The exhibits on Grape day alone are worth the trip to Escondido. The valley's major industry, citrus growing, is always shown in an exhibition of fruit. The dairy and poultry industries, which come in for a great share of the valley's wealth, are recognized. Avocados, other deciduous fruits and even vegetables and flowers are shown. The valley's diversified products all make a show worth while. This is the opinion of A. P. Giannini, chairman of the board, Bank of America and Transamerica corporation, which he expressed upon his arrival here Saturday on a visit to the bank's 419 branches. "The federal housing act, which is now being put into operation, will greatly stimulate the building trades and aid employment," said Mr. Giannini. "Bank of America is cooperating to the fullest extent in extending the benefits of this act to all parts of California. Applications for loans for $100 to $2,000 to be used for alterations, repairs and improvements to homes and farm buildings and business property are being received at all branches of our bank." "In order to get this country on a prosperous basis," continued Mr. Giannini. "it is necessary to have adequate employment, good food, satisfactory housing and old age provision for its people. President Roosevelt is doing his best to bring these things about, and for that reason he is deserving of the support and cooperation of every loyal American." "The government's expenditures for relief and for stimulation of trade recovery are not out of line with current conditions. In fact, the president has overstated the amounts he planned to" "There is merit in a plan recently proposed by Senator William G. MacAdoo, to promote social welfare through corporate agencies. His proposal is that after adequate compensation for officers and employers and after dividends to stockholders, reserves be established from surplus for distribution to the laborers and to the investors of capital on a proportionate basis." Federal insurance of bank deposits will be a permanent feature of our governmental and economic system. Mr. Giannini believes.
